Find Best Price at Amazon"When I first opened the box (which arrived in it's own NICE white box-great for storing items when not in use) it seemed a bit daunting. The wicks and glue dots were super easy to put into the jars (which come with lids! Once the wax was melted- we weren't quite sure if we should turn off the heat or remove the melting pot completely. The directions weren't very clear about this- but luckily it does come with the thermometer (which also has a handle so you can keep it on the side of the melting pot). Everyone that came by over Memorial Day weekend was shocked that we made them and how great they smelled! With one set (3 candles), we poured when the wax was too hot and that caused the glue dots to melt, kind of leaving the wicks floating about. By the time we ready for the next set-we were able to remove the wick holders to use again (the wax had cooled just enough for them to stay in place-but this isn't something I would necessarily recommend- you should probably wait longer just to ensure that the wicks stay in place). I tested ONE candle with my own essential oils. We NOT SO PATIENTLY waited 24 hours before we trimmed the wicks and put the warning stickers on the bottom-AND BURNED THEM! I HIGHLY recommend this kit- especially at this price because it gives you all the materials you need to get started if you have never made your own candles."

I used fragrance oils from Candle Science (B0092RNCSY most of which were safe to add at 180 degrees F. 5) While wax cools, thread wicks through wick tabs (B001683N86 I fray the end that's going to the bottom of the candle so when I make the wick taught later I won't pull the wick out. Pour in just enough wax to cover the top of the wick tab. Let the wax you just poured cool until it's slightly opaque (should not be liquid, but not completely solid), and then press wick tab down gently (I used a chopstick) into the middle of your container. By the time the wax hardens, the rest of your wax should be ready to pour. 8) Let the rest of the wax continue to cool until 110-115 degrees F. Pour in the rest of the wax, leaving some space at the top of the container so wax won't overflow when burning later."

I melted this wax in a double boiler made from a saucepan and cereal bowl, and ladled it into a cheap flowerpot from the dollar store. I made a test candle with some Gulf paraffin from Walmart and had some serious contraction problems as it hardened (leaving a big divot in the center), but the soy wax didn't seem to contract nearly as much. It's just about the cheapest wax you can find, so the quality was an extremely pleasant surprise. Echoing what others have said, this stuff is probably too soft for freestanding candle types."

No longer do you need to purchase lots of different EXPENSIVE colored lamp oil. Step 1) Create a small protected work area with paper towels. Over the paper towel coat the tip of the toothpick with a small amount of dye. Step 4) Dip the toothpick into the oil candle and shake to incorporate the dye. Note: The toothpick method works great for coloring small amounts of fuel. bottle, you'll probably want to use a full drop or more depending on the depth of color you prefer. Our Colored Lamp Oil Dye has been tested with Firefly Paraffin Lamp Oil, Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil and Firefly Tiki Torch Fuel. You will receive 3 Glass Bottles Filled with 10 mls of Candle Dye - Red, Blue and Yellow. CAUTION; This dye will “stain” whatever it lands on - your hands, carpet and other absorbing materials; after all, it’s DYE.
