I use a pretty heavy industrial walking foot sewing machine by Sailrite (I do not recommend that sewing machine, it's made horribly and their customer service is nice until there is a problem, buy a reliable barracuda instead!!!). and the table supports it just fine, even when I'm jamming through some fabrics. My dog loves to do tricks, and while I was taking photos she decided the cutting mat was a perfect spot to "park it" so she parked her butt ontop, and it didn't budge. I don't recommend having your dogs sit on your cabinet for a multitude of reasons, though.
