"I used a metal probe and pliers to remove the old staples from the old boot, put the new boot in place around the plastic ring, and used a metal probe to poke holes in the boot, matching the locations of the holes in the plastic ring. To attach the boot, I reused the old staples by bending them back into place with pliers."
