Lifetime traffic extends for the useful life of your Garmin traffic receiver (as long as you own a compatible Garmin GPS) or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. A traffic receiver’s “useful life” means the period during which the receiver (a) has the required technical capabilities to utilize current traffic data service and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. Up Ahead displays nearby services info including restaurants, stores, hospitals and fuel alongside your map and updates as you drive your route.

"I was getting tired of being nagged to pay for a map update on the older unit. My last unit kept searching for a satellite connection so long I was afraid I'd get lost in the process. Regarding Bluetooth, The ability to use as a speaker phone when connected to your mobile device is nice. If Voice command and the speaker function are not important to you, you could save some cash buy getting the 2557 model."
"*The first issue I had was how the old unit clipped onto the base, to get it to release using one hand, half the time it would slip out of control and fall to the floor. *This new GPS has a LCD display that is not affected by polarized sunglasses, wow, what a difference! This new one uses a great birds eye animated graphic that highlights the lanes you need to be in; you can just glance and see where you want to be. Update 12/27/13: There seems to be a lot of concern about the LCD screen and polarized sunglasses. Even a slight tilt of your head started to dim the screen of the previous Garmin model."
"You can also do it manually from the GPS touch screen, personally i find it faster but there is a use where the non driver or any person in the car can send routes to the GPS without distracting the driver which is really nice to have."

"What I like about the 2797: Screen size - Much easier to see info at a quick galance, very helpful for those that don't have 20/20 vision. Mounting method - Much improved - Just push the tab at the bottom of the mount and the unit comes off. Features - Talk about customizing, if you take the time, you can really have a special device that caters to your needs and preferences. Directions for use - I headed to Youtube where GPSCity does a wonderful job of showing you how to use your new device. Quick Note - I love the speed indicator, a feature on most Garmins. I travel on country roads quite a bit and the speed limit can change quickly going through small towns. Lane assist - I had this on my last Garmin, but with the larger screen, it is much easier to see. What I am disappointed with in the Garmin. Voice recognition - This was one of the biggest reasons I upgraded to the 2797."
"Pros: size, voicecommand, powered-mount, up-ahead, volume, navigation functionality, traffic, junction view, lane assist, etc. Cons: Bluetooth sound quality and functionality issues, Users Manual, Battery Life. In general I like the 2797LMT as an upgrade, in my case, from the 1490T, except for poor Bluetooth/Phone sound volume and quality plus an outgoing call/connection problem I haven't solved yet. Size: This is one really big boy sitting on my Subaru dash but it works surprisingly well with a beanbag mount...a 1490T on steroids. Probably not a good idea to suction mount to the window since if it releases (and it will eventually) you will have a large electronic piece flopping onto your lap. If so, than any 1 amp charger will work as long as you can connect to the 2797 direct with a micro USB tip. Note, the GTM cable to the mount connects with a mini USB tip. Display: Doesn't seem as `contrasty' or vividly color saturated as my 5" 1490T prob due to the same pixel count on the larger 7" format. Shortcut: Nice feature where you can include your favorites (icons) for quick search to frequent destinations. I noted a major problem with mediocre sound quality/volume and initial outgoing call connectivity. With my own non-smart Samsung Convoy 660 it didn't seem to connect automatically, especially when using Voice Command to initiate the call. I was especially looking forward to problem free use of Voice Command with the BT feature. I tested the 2797 also with the I4S, Galaxy S3, and Droid Razor phones to see if the problem is unique to my Samsung Convoy 660. Blue Tooth: Still a BT volume/sound quality/connection problem with my Samsung Convoy 660 on Verizon system. Perhaps you need to ensure your phone works the way you want before you buy,if BT is a major reason for purchase. I found this on 30mph local streets where the alternate turns were very close to each other, but if you drive a bit slower in these known situations, unit will work ok. locations is not sufficiently up to date, for example missing some restaurants and schools that have been at same local addresses for well over 15 years. Usage Update 4/25/13: Finally got an explanation from Garmin of how the School Proximity Warning works. But since this is a new feature not all schools in the POIs have been encoded with the proximity alert from their map vendor, navteq. Sent letter to garmin president and was essentially blown off by one of their minions, saying they are looking into the problem etc."

"We can warn each other of any pot holes or road hazards that the other one are not aware of."
"The reported battery time is long and can charge from any USB 5V source. It worked with my iPod Touch and my HTC Evo4G Android Phone to stream music. Riding a motorcycle with a helmet doing 75 mph is not going to ever be the ideal stereophonic environment to enjoy Hi-Fi audio. The remove Boom is ideal for my MODULAR helmet (full coverage with a flip front chin face plate. Very nice design and user interface for a compact piece of gear."
"Installed these on my climbing helmets."
"as they are a bit tricky to install to get all the cables hidden and out of the way, I had to cut some plastic on my helmet to wire the cables through."
"Remote mike could use a bit more of a windscreen to block out noice but, nothing that can't be worked on our end."
"Bought this for my SON and he was absolutely shocked to have this as a gift."
"The only real negative is that there is no way to check or update the firmware under Linux.... and yes, I let the company know my displeasure about that (and so have quite a few other people). It would be much easier if they just made it a USB mass storage device and allow the user to drop a firmware file on it like a flash drive and just reboot and bam. Oh well, at least they do regularly make updates available and they DO improve the device and even add new features. I could have bought the newer 20 model, but I didn't care about FM radio, people reported problems with the mounting clip breaking on that model, and there were a few other features I didn't need."
"These can pair with your smartphone for answering phone calls, listening to music as well as using google maps for directions."

"The reason I'm writing this review is this car mount holders ability to stay in the exact same mounted spot and hold my phone during a rollover accident I was just in earlier this week. After I unbuckled myself and turned the engine off I looked for my phone and no joke, it was exactly where is was before the roll...right there in the mount holder on the dash."
"Bought this and regrettably stuck it on the dash of my brand new car (the day after I bought it!)."
"I printed up the product description page here on Amazon, and have the instruction and info that came with this. The fact of the matter was that this has happened to 2 different makes of vehicles that I own and have the pictures to prove it. All they had to do was mention these vehicles in their product description that they know that this item will damage, and save a lot of people from the same problems myself and many others that have suffered. Notice in my post on 3-21-16 that I mentioned that it was listed to be safe on ALL surfaces, but a year later, and they have note way at the bottom, that it "may" cause damage to some vehicles, and they are not liable. They have no disclaimer or mention of anything about that this could happen to certain vehicles. Update 1-22-17. Here are the latest pictures of the other vehicle I have that this piece of junk has ruined, and before you think what idiot would buy this same product after what happened to them, is that I bought them both at the same time, it's just that I was using the worse of the two to get my point across. I now see that iOttie has put a disclaimer at the bottom of the description saying that they will not be responsible for any damages that could occur from this junk. If a company like that puts a disclaimer on their product page, then it's not a matter of if it could happen, it's more like it WILL happen on some certain vehicles."
"I literally can't believe it, but trying to wedge my finger between the adhesive and the glass, I lost all feeling from pushing so hard - and then pop.. See pictures below."
"Beware of this product; they have used overly strong glue on the rubber cup that is used to attach to your dashboard."
"Buyer beware."
