"PERFORMANCE IN COLD WEATHER. For the past 5 years, I've used the Big Buddy heaters to heat two small cabins, 200 sq feet each, with vaulted ceilings. Without the Big Buddy, my primary cabin averages 37 F in the winter, and my studio averages 35 F. With the Big Buddy, I can keep either cabin at a toasty 65 to 70 F. In the past, I used the smaller Mr. Cabin: From full cold (37 to 45 F indoors), it feels like it takes forever to heat 200 sq feet on low. It just provides a radiant heat source for the side of your body that faces it. INDOORS AT NIGHT -- DON'T DO IT. Although it is safe to use indoors, and after years of experience with these heaters, I'm confident in that claim, I still do not recommend running it at night or while you're sleeping. The wire cage that protects you from the ceramic elements is well designed -- far enough from the elements to protect against accidental touch, without adding too much bulk. This is especially important when you're wearing bulky layers and unknowingly dangling coat sleeves, lanyards, and jacket corners. Makes the entire package bulky, susceptible to damage, annoyingly shaped, and hard to store around other objects. You'll be able to pack it more efficiently, travel without worrying about moisture, and move it wherever you want without risking so much damage. I suggest you shop around."
"We have a 25lb propane tank hooked up to it with the hose kit accessory. I knocked off a star because of the fan feature. I don't recommend using batteries because they don't last long (8hrs max) and it's very quiet, so it's easy to forget that it's on even after turning it off. One last tip: if you're using a 25lb gas propane tank, you only need to turn the value on the tank about 3/4 to one full turn."
"I did spring for the quick connect propane hose by Mr. Heater for hooking up 20-40lb propane cylinders. If you buy the regulated quick connect hose you DO NOT have to buy the filters for running bulk propane. This heater can be hooked up to (2) bulk propane tanks at the same time using connection hoses for bulk propane 20lb cylinders adapted to the 1lb connector or (1) 20lb bulk tank using the quick connect hose (to clarify for absolute clarity it only has (1) quick connect inlet and has an additional (2) propane inlets that are fitted for 1lb bottles. It does not matter what side you hook up propane to or in what manner you hook it up, the heater will run normally and work on all of its temperature settings (yes this was brought up in other reviews and is a source of confusion). The heater puts out a lot of heat on the HIGH settings and other reviews of the 1lb bottles freezing up on HIGH settings are more than likely accurate. This is no fault to the heater, it's just that on HIGH this thing eats up a good bit of propane and over a period of time empties those 1lb bottles more quickly, thus the moving gas freezes up the bottle. The connections seem machined well and I have never had a problem using my Mr. heater hoses."

"This item deserves more than 5 stars, its very rare that you purchase a product and it exceeds all your expectations. My first time using this was on a Klondike Derby in a 10' x 10' EZ-Up tent with attached sides. The Mr. Heater Portable Buddy was used in an 8 man Alaskan Guide Tent from Cabelas, the outside temp hit a low of -8°F. I felt comfortable leaving both of these heaters on when we slept, in fact we were stuck in the tent from Friday afternoon till Sunday morning and these were never shut off, we also ran a propane lantern on low at night and used a Camp Chef Everest High Output 2 Burner Stove for hot beverages and cooking. The piezo ignition works well, but I want to point out one thing, if the heater is pitched back slightly, the pilot will not light the propane , this is due to the angle of the ceramic, just make sure its on a flat surface."
"We have a 45 foot RV toy hauler and the rear garage isn't very well insulated and the heating vents don't work so well back there. With two of these running on low (so the fuel would last most of the night), the thermostat almost never flipped on and our furnace hardly ran. We were camping for a week and I was afraid we would burn through our large LP tanks if we ran the furnace too long."
"These are not whole house heaters. They are great room heaters and make life much more comfortable in an emergency."
"I ran it off a 20lb propane tank outside the tent and found that I didn't need to run it long to warm the tent."
"The first one caught on fire where are the propane bottle screws in while I was camped at the Grand Canyon. Thankfully I was able to get it outside of the RV before anything else caught on fire and hit it with the fire extinguisher."

"It is PERFECT for places where you want or need a campfire, but do not want the hassle of smoke, building a fire, or like us, have burn bans. Pros: Very compact and easy to store. -GREAT flame; tall but not too tall, warm and inviting. Cons: The lid is easy to get on, but the stretchy straps that hook over the lid to form the handle can be a bit of a pain to handle."
"We got about 8 hours of live fire time with a full regular size propane tank. Not only did we not smell like campfire, the flame is very predictable, so you can position chairs easily and not have to worry about moving around to avoid smoke or ashes."
"After years of wood burning - I have finally given in to buy a propane fire pit."
"The fireplace has been a fun addition to our patio."
"It's not going to heat you up from ten feet away on a cold winter day but for a cool evening or just for ambiance it works perfectly with up to 4-6 people around it. That said, it actually does put out a fair amount of heat but you can't be more than a few feet away from it to really feel it."
"Really well designed, easy to set up, everyone that shared it with me loved it."
"This would have received 5 stars but within the second time of using the paint started to peel off around the rim."
"We used it this summer during the burn bans in the Pacific Northwest."

"This item does not come with instructions, so I looked at a few blogs and articles as well as some YouTube videos before starting. First off, the only tools needed are a Philips head screw driver and a 3/8" socket or wrench. Once the cover is off, you will see the ceiling template (metal bracket that holds the whole thing in place) as well as the electrical connection box. Make sure the power is off before moving on...got it, ok. Ok the outside of the box is a white plug with six wires...simply squeeze the sides and pull off...its that easy. There are four bolts that hold the unit in place along the outer edges of this metal frame. Be careful, the a/c unit is 80-85 pounds which while not outrageously heavy, due to its shape and size is awkward and can cause a back injury. Grab those 4 long bolts and your 3/8" socket again and put the ceiling template back in place. Once the a/c is as tight as it needs to be, place the freeze control sensor on to the new unit's coils, reach inside the new unit and pull out the power plug and plug it into the electrical box. If you turn it on and everything sounds right you're good to go, simply reattach the ceiling unit/filter housing and relax."
"Quite easily keeps our couch v. Cool, low price."

"I put a small gob of gasket seal on each screw along with a lock washer to keep the screws from working loose."
"However, I did wipe them down with a UV protectant before installation and I plan on reapplying that product several times a year to try to get a bit more longevity out of them. After drilling and mounting the brackets to the roof vent frame, I covered the screw heads with a small dollop of lap sealant (again....optional and not in the directions). I purchased the black one to go over the bed to diminish the amount of light coming in during the early morning hours. Eventually you can hit the top of the cover but at that point the roof vents are wide open. The only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was due to how easily the screws stripped, which hold the louvered cover in place. The one thing that all of the vent cover manufacturers talk about is of course, air flow."
"it does just what its supposed to I'm happy with it,,,,,, Update. I T IS DESIGNED TO SIT ON A ROOF IN THE SUN AND THE SUN DISINTEGRATED IT!"
"I noticed last year when I went up on the roof of the RV that this cover had hairline cracks in several places and seemed brittle when I attempted to alleviate some stress from the attacment of the nuts.. However, yesterday, when I was up on the roof to replace some aged caulking at the cap/roof intersection, I noticed the cover cracked in several more places, especially at the base where its integrity is important to keeping the cover bolted to the roof. I never noticed the material from which this was made; however, I compared two other replacement vent hoods (one Ultra Breeze from Atwood on order now). I can only surmise that resin becomes brittle when exposed to sun, because there certainly were no exterior forces applied to the vent hood during the 2 years it was over my Fantastic bathroom fan. We shall see, but it makes sense to me that polyetylene would be considerably more pliable and resistent to weather ravages than resin."
