Best Austen, Jane

Pride & Prejudice
This story of the Bennet family and the novel's two protagonists, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, is told with a wit that its author feared might prove "rather too light and bright, and sparkling."
Reviews
"I already own a few copies of Pride and Prejudice so I didn't need another but this was too cute to pass up."
"She writes in a sophisticated way, with a great setting and characters. Definitely a book everyone needs to read."
"Mr. Darcy was considered to be a very prideful and arrogant man by those who lived in Hertfordshire; which in fact he was shy and uncomfortable around strangers."
"I came to Pride and Prejudice relatively spoiler free, and although it did not engage my emotions like Sense and Sensibility did, and it started out slowly for me, I was soon enthralled by Austen's characters, their witty observations and the story of prejudiced Elizabeth Bennett and proud Mr. Darcy. Kate Reading was a pleasant reader with the ability to distinguish characters with slight variations of pitch and tone and a knack for playing up the novel's most sardonic moments."
"I have read Pride and Prejudice several times, and still love Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy!"
"Being one of the most loved novels of all time I rather expected more."
"This book is no different and allows you some surprises and some intrigue as the characters develop toward revealing who they truly are and what is driving their complex behavior."

Pride and Prejudice: (Dramatisation)
Samantha Spiro, David Troughton and Amanda Root are among the cast of this new BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of Jane Austen's famous novel. He encouraged Jane to write and read widely as a child; at fourteen, she had written Love and Friendship and at fifteen had finished the ambitiously titled A History of England. This modest assessment was not shared by Sir Walter Scott or by the Prince Regent, who kept a set of her novels in each of his residences. Jane Austen's novels have acquired a following which is almost cult-like, and the many dramatisations of her work for screen, television and radio are testament to the books' enduring popularity. One of her works was amongst the earliest transmissions to be heard on BBC radio: a reading of the proposal scene from Pride and Prejudice was broadcast on 15 January 1924.

Reviews
"Really good actors and staging."
"I gave this as a gift to a friend."
"I don't like the packaging--each disk is on top of the next; to use the last one all the other disks need to be handled."
"Really great dramatization of the six most famous Jane Austen novels (and Emma is in this edition too even though it's not listed on the cover image)."
"Northanger Abbey is one of my favorite Jane Austen stories (as well as the only book I have listened to in this collection so far). LOVE this collection and I have already started Mansfield Park which has David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch, be still my nerd girl heart."

Best Asimov, Isaac

Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series
As he convened a board of scientists and scholars to tackle this grave challenge, an ominous choice lay ahead for all: submit to the rising warlords and their generation of corruption, or stand up and fight....and be destroyed.
Reviews
"This volume is no exception; and it is highly recommended to those Sci-Fi readers who like to think, and relate the morals to our own situations in this time-space continuum."
"Another great series, the "Robot" series was later linked to this series and although I enjoyed the link not everyone may enjoy it. Nonetheless you should read the "Robot" series as well if you get the chance."
"The series was written out of chronological order but if you read the series in the order the books were published, you can see a clear progression of Asimov mastering his craft. With the exception of the series involving The Mule (second half of "Foundation and Empire" and the first half of "Second Foundation) and Prelude to Foundation little focus is on the characters themselves."
"First time readers should past the social norms that prevailed in the 1940's when the plot elements were being hatched in the genius mind of Isaac Asimov."
"Original: The message from Anacreon ... boils down easily and straightforwardly to the unqualified statement ... "You give us what we want in a week, or we beat the hell out of you and take it anyway." Kindle: The message from Anacreon ... boils down easily and straightforwardly to the unqualified statement ... "You give us what we want in a week, or we take it by force.""
