"While there are many good elements, there are just as many flaws, most of which can briefly be summarized in the following points: (1) It is good to use contemporary topics when teaching any modern language, such as the book does, but it is simply wrong to use colloquial German to someone wanting to learn basic German conversation and translation skills. For example, Goethe's vastly outdated German writing (and topics) are nice for advanced High Schoolers in Germany, they are hardly text book material for foreigners who are struggling to learn the basics of the language."
