Unclassified
The debut studio album from Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Unclassified resurrects the spiritual fervor of gospel, gutbucket soul of the blues, earthy power of R&B and raucous energy of rock. By updating the sacred-steel tradition with heavy doses of blues, funk, and rock, he's not only emerged with his own sound, but he's brought the music full circle, returning those pop-music styles to their gospel roots. The disc reaches some terrific heights from the very start with a fiery trio of opening songs: "Going in the Right Direction," "I Need More Love," and "Nobody" are joyous, uplifting romps brimming with the fervor of gospel music.
Reviews
"Meet "Robert Randolph and the Family Band". " I need more love" out funks George Clinton. "Going in the Right Direction" is a church revival-sounding song but man does it rock and holy smoke is it funky! "Good Times" is an instrumental space funk song on equal footing with "Cosmic Slop"."
"I'd heard of Robert Randolph but, until I purchased and really listened to this album, I didn't realize how fun (and funky) it would be!"
"Other artists like a country guy, then James Taylor with the help of Joe Walsh to help pull his portion out and more players I wasn't endeared to. Then Robert, hidden on side stage played with those blues masters on a pedal steel guitar. I'll even admit to performing with a country band just long enough to steal their lead guitar player. Unclassified is good work as is "Live at the Wetlands" but I am patiently waiting for a CD/DVD dedicated to the BLUES."
"I hear a song like "Calypso" and it reminds me of Carlos Santana while "Good Times (3 Stroke)" sounds like Steve Vai if he'd grown up a southern Baptist."
"it was cool but I was hoping for some more funky stuff like "I need more love" didn't deliver as much as i'de hoped."
"This brother does for the steel pedal guitar what Jimi Hendrix did for the electric guitar and what Larry Graham did for the Fender Bass back in the day!"
"I bought this album after seeing the band's electrifying performance on the Clapton 2010 Crossroads video and then, being unfamiliar with the band, went through the reviews here to try to find the "best album.""

Rest Assured - Hymns On Piano
Her touch is gentle yet strong and confident, making this a recording that anyone can enjoy simply for the beauty of the music whether or not they are drawn to the hymns themselves. On both albums, some of the hymns are familiar classics while others are less well-known, making for a richly rewarding listening experience. I m always fascinated by all of the different interpretations of Amazing Grace, and Faber s is one of the most beautiful solo piano arrangements I ve heard - quiet and gently flowing. How Great Thou Art is another classic hymn, given a fresh and contemporary make-over that is true to the original melody and spirit of the piece. Near To The Heart of God is the closing hymn, ending this excellent CD on a quiet, thoughtful note.
Reviews
"I'll turn off the TV, and turn down the lights, and enjoy some of my favorite hymns performed so wonderfully."
"Glorious to listen to!"
"I had been searching for a CD that would be a good background during my personal devotion , prayer time and Bible study."
""Rest Assured: Hymns On Piano" was pianist/composer Janice Faber's debut CD, and is a gently soothing collection of eleven traditional hymns and praise songs enhanced with some of Faber's original music. Her touch is gentle yet strong and confident, making this a recording that anyone can enjoy simply for the beauty of the music whether or not they are drawn to the hymns themselves. "Blessed Assurance" is one of the best-known hymns, yet Faber makes it her own. "Jesus Love The Little Children" and "Jesus Loves Me" are two of my favorite hymns from childhood Sunday School, and Faber's medley is gentle, innocent, and very sincere."
"The result is an album of lovely music to help one relax when doing stressful tasks, or to play during dinner as a nice accompaniment, or to listen to in the evening before bedtime."
"I bought this CD for close friends, some who knew the hymns and some who did not."
"The artist clearly has a gift for arranging and playing."
"I love listening to this while sitting in my Mother's nursing home room."

A Piece Of My Passion
Not even the staunchest music skeptic expected A Piece of My Passion, Juanita Bynum's third album, to become the gospel smash it did in 2006. The two-disc set topped Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart for weeks, and it wasn't long until Bynum scored for herself her first gold album.

Best Traditional Gospel

Gospels, Spirituals, & Hymns
Culled from her sides for Columbia in the 1950s and 1960s, some of the arrangements in the set are not ideal and may sound quite a bit dated, but that voice shines and soars and dives straight to the center of your heart. Whether backed by a simple organ or piano or with full studio accompaniment, Jackson's booming, instantly recognizable contralto is indescribable, exciting, and forever a wonder to behold.
Reviews
""and let her take you from there. All the tunes are good and will lift up any spirits. The booklet is informative and well illustrated with photos of this immortal artist(Why do I feel like I'm back in Mrs. Tripp's 4th grade writing a book report?"
"I tend to think that a lot of today's gospel music imitates music that would typically have no place in a worship service."
"Memories flooded my soul!"
"My mother Love Mahalia Jackson."
"Beautiful and classic compilation."
