"DBPowerAmp will try to recover the information, and will tell you if the CD can't be ripped accurately. In my experience, it will allow you to repair almost any optical disk (other than BluRay) to make it entirely playable and usable again. This is actually where the data resides, essentially on the reverse of the label area, beneath a layer of protective plastic. What it won't do is what I bought it for, which is to make a damaged disc entirely perfect, not just playable, but rippable to the hard drive with 100%, total, flawless to-the-exact-bit accuracy. If your purpose is to take a damaged XBox disc bought at a yard sale for $2, and make it work fine on the kids' machine, it is great."
"Whether you correctly follow the directions on the unit, imitate a youtube instruction, or somebody's user review here on Amazon, there is a likelihood that you will get a working non-Bluray disc. On the Dreamcast discs I tried, one of them was brought to almost perfect working condition while another disc looked better but became unplayable by not loading anymore."
"It would fix very minor scratches but gouges were completely beyond its capability, The JFJ will grind off microscopic layers of the disc surface to remove the gouges. Clean the plastic grindings off the sandpaper with a Scotch Bright pad after every 10 second cycle. This machine will fix any disc scratch as long as the data is still in tact."

However, if there is writing on the label, any ink present could absolutely smudge if it gets wet by water dripping off the top half of the record. Having cleaned 75 or so records, I’ve replaced the water in the tank three times already because the water just looked like it was too dirty to continue using. Now, I am 100% convinced that any record I’ve cleaned ends up in much better condition after the cleaning, regardless of what’s getting back onto the disc, and I can’t imagine that a small amount of dirt that might get back onto the record would cause much damage."

"I've used it to make CDs and DVDs which had become almost unplayable work reasonably well again, avoiding the cost of replacing the disc. Basically, you start with a CD or DVD with minor surface damage on the bottom side (which is where the laser hits it). This device will lightly sand down the plastic surface, evening it out, taking scratches out, and creating a radial pattern. Also, for the first stage, you _must_ use enough of the spray to keep the disc wet; if you let it run dry and keep cranking the abrasive wheel will produce deep radial scratches and it will be hard to buff them out; you may wind up doing more damage then the original damage you are trying to fix, and it will take you forever to try to get them out. I ran it through the process four or five times, to the point of diminishing returns, and it got a lot better, but it still has some short freezes and stuttering in the video playback."
