Find Best Price at Amazon"I purchased this DVD to play movies on DVDs attached to a high definition SONY TV via HDMI cable. Photo #1 shows everything that came in the package: the DVD player, instructions, 3-RCA component video coax cable, remote and batteries. It is very light weighing in at 2 pound and 1.4 oz. Photo #3 shows the back panel and the HDMI cable (not included). I am showing the shape of the HDMI connector in case someone will find it helpful as it needs to be purchased separately. Amazon sells them at a really good price DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M 6 feet. Standard definition TV set and regular DVDs have a maximum resolution of 720x576. The final image is not as good as tru Blu-Ray DVD, but I find it completely acceptable. When I tried forcing them on at another speed via remote control the player generates a message "operation not possible". Music: MP3. Find Best Price at Amazon"It measures 10.5"W x 8"D x 1.5"H. The power cable is 56" long (4" short of 5 ft). The remote feels comfortable in my hands, but it's not illuminated so seeing in the dark is difficult. DVD Options: By pressing Display on the remote twice, the following options become available: Zoom (zooms in on picture), Camera Angles (if DVD has multiple angles), Custom Picture Mode(Standard, Dynamic, Cinema) commonly found as a TV option, and also Sharpness Option. The Custom Picture and Sharpness option make a minor adjustment to the picture colors and sharpness. There are individual buttons for AUDIO and SUBTITLE to easily cycle through those options. Fast-forward options are seconds per second: 2.5, 5, 15, or 60. I would have preferred a slightly longer power cable, and quicker loading, but for the price it accomplishes the basics."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I thought about taking the 100 VHS tapes I have to a professional place to get it done, but at $25 a pop ($2500!! You can't watch and tape TV through it (no tuner), but we have a DVR with our satellite dish, so we didn't need that. I thought about getting a Toshiba, but several reviews seem to indicate that it was a bit more difficult to dub. After looking at reviews, it seems that not all recordable DVDs are created equal. I ended up ordering "100 Taiyo Yuden/JVC 8X DVD-R 4.7GB Silver Thermal Lacquer DVD-R." These appear to be the best quality and last the longest. I put the VHS in one side, the DVD in the other and just press the "dub" button on the remote."

"Installation looks intimidating at first glance but is really quite simple and unlike some competing machines this unit has several different ways to connect with televisions, other VCRs, cameras, cable boxes, et cetera, a feature I really appreciate. I collect silent films and early talkies for my personal use and have videotaped hundreds of them off TCM and similar stations; I have had no problems converting those old tapes to DVD-R. Also OOP television shows like the Science Fiction Channel's Destination: Truth, a marvelous program that for some inexplicable reason has only released Season One on DVD. The holding-my-breath-and-turning-blue reason is that Funai (a division of Magnavox I understand) seems a bit too concerned with copyright protection issues."
