"First, the sound quality is fantastic for a tabletop radio. The sensitivity of this radio is great on both AM and FM. This radio was not designed for "DXing" but it will pick up a lot of distant stations at night. That is a pretty good feat these days considering the way the FCC has allowed the FM band to be degraded with a lot of additional FM stations as part of their so-called "AM Revitalization" program. The sensitivity of this radio on FM compares favorably with my much more expensive tuners. The classical station I listen to on 90.5 if flanked by stations on 90.3 and 90.7 and I am in an area with dozens and dozens of strong local stations. Therefore, you can't use this radio as a tuner for your stereo system if you want full stereo sound. If you get this radio, I think you are sure to love it. Unfortunately they also changed the tuner on FM as well and it has also been degraded. That said, the sound quality on FM is still excellent, and it is superior to other small table radios that I have tested. If I could give separate ratings for various features of the 40th Edition model I would rate it like this: * Sound quality on AM - 2 Stars (mediocre). * Sound quality on FM - 5 Stars (awesome). * AM tuner performance - 1 Star (horrible!). * FM tuner performance - 2 Stars (mediocre). I am not sure, but I suspect that Sangean may have changed the tuner design in the current production of the regular model WR-11 radios to the new design. But if you buy either model of this radio, be advised that it might have the issues discussed above. Because of the poor tuner performance of the current design, I have decided to drop my overall rating from 5 stars to 3 stars."
"The Sangean's speaker is too directional in that when you look at the radio you can tell exactly where the sound is coming from whereas the Tivoli has a more diffuse, non-directional sound. I went in really wanting to prefer the Sangean over the Tivoli simply because the Tivoli costs twice as much but in the end I really preferred the Tivoli. I also need to record the line-out to my computer for a local weekly radio show I upload to a podcast and discovered that the Tivoli's line-out has a more dynamic, fuller sound than the Sangean."
"I had been searching for a radio that could be used with a timer to automatically turn on/off, and repeat."
"So, I decided to try the Sangean radio to replace her old aging radio that had a horrible antenna. I highly recommend this radio for anyone who loves old AM/FM radios but with a more advanced antenna."
"Great little old style radio with knobs and sliders instead of digital tuner and leds. Now I'll wait to buy another just to see if the price comes down a bit....don't need another before the summer."

Reviews
"Two high-quality speakers deliver Bose-like sound (having had Bose radios before, I can assure you the sound is full, resonant, nontinny, like a Bose, yet never thumpy or causing the radio to vibrate, like some of the cheaper digital boombox I've used in the past (http://www.amazon.com/Creative-D80-Wireless-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B004X28I0A). The up-to-the-minute RDS (Radio Data System) display scrolls whatever outgoing data accompanies the radio signal (like the name of the artist and the name of the song for FM music stations), then unobtrusively shifts back into showing the time when you turn the radio off."
"Used it for almost 2 weeks for several hours in the eves, and a couple of times it stayed on all night, and never changed batteries."
"I live in the mountains near Yellowstone Park where radio reception is a real challenge. All in all, if you want a portable radio with terrific reception at an affordable price, you won't do better than this."
"I like it because it has an alarm clock, is portable, has good FM reception, and is a great improvement over my last radio."
"(4)AA-1.2V rechargeable batteries=4.8V... Or, 4 regular AA's ain't gonna kill it... Search for a 4-AA battery case with switch, find and solder an old cordless phone power adapter cord to the battery case, for the "DC In" to the Bluetooth receiver)."
