"I was a little bit worried about the batteries running out of power and being locked out of my house, however, the unit comes with an additional battery pack that you can hide outside of your house and if you ever do run out of power you can plug it into the knob and punch in your code and enter into your house. Now do not worry the knob will give you ample time to alert you to a low battery so you don't have to guess when to change the batteries. I still have not changed my batteries since I bought this knob). This unit is capable of storing many different codes so if you have friends or family members you can issue them each their own codes! I have only one suggestion:When you install the battery pack I would put a small strip of tape around the battery doors. We have a habit of slamming the front door closed and after months and months of this I thought the battery was dead but after using the power pack and getting into the house I discovered that when the door was slammed the battery door slide open a little and one of the batteries poped out of contact."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I consider the keypad a necessity if you are going to buy the August Smart lock. Finally I get my phone out, wait for it to find the lock and unlock the door. Lastly, I'm not at all happy that I can't set a schedule for when other peoples codes are active. If I give the house cleaner a code, I can't say that it only works on Tuesday. There have been several updates to the device, one of which was meant to improve battery life, but its hard to say at this point whether it helped. My wife still complains about it not taking her code maybe once every five times she uses it and I'm still apologizing for it's unreliability."

"Quick background info...we purchased nearly the entire August lineup in April 2016 for our vacation rental home...the lock, connect, and this keypad. This was the primary reason of purchasing this system for us, as we wanted to remotely access and change settings. Our rental home is located in a different town hundreds of miles from where we live. I've noticed that some of their marketing material has changed since our purchase, clarifying many of the issues and limitations we have encountered. I can't believe we spent almost $400 dollars, have no functional lock system, AND are looking at the possibility of no refund. We'll be back to our rental house in about a week to hopefully install a new update that will fix most of the issues. If that update doesn't work as promised we'll be removing the lock and throwing it in the trash if we can't get our money back."

Assuming I didn't want to use 3rd party software, the setup feels like a security risk. You have to log in to an Android app or a Web site to view the camera and there is a significant delay before the picture comes up. Had to restart the Android app at least twice (and I am on a nice LG phone less than 2 years old). While the hardware might be just fine, the software makes these cameras too good to be true: what could have been a very affordable starting point or building block to a good system is instead just part of a cloud over-dependent crippled and inflexible service. I will be reboxing these cameras, returning them, and going with another brand I'd never heard of that lists Blue Iris capability as a feature."

"I do not recommend this particular camera. 6/11/17 Update: After about 2 weeks of use, i update the review from a 5 to a 3 star due primarily to the following: - Substantial lag time constantly when recording in HD mode and every now and again when i'm SD (standard mode), which affects the clarity of the recording. - When in activity detection mode, the camera sometimes automatically swivels too far up,down, left, or right and essentially blocks all or only allows partial view. What kind of manufacturing allows a camera to move that far that it completely blocks the view???? -Has a 2 way speaker system that works good enough. -Big plus is that it has the ability to use a micro sd card for video/sound storage so i don't have to pay for monthly subscription services (althoughYi does offer that as an option). - Full rotational control of the cam via the app controller. -Motion detector and recording is pretty cool as the camera will follow the object or person in its view for about 10sec shots or until out of sight. - Automatic remote viewing from the app without needing to set up port forwarding, static ip's, or any of that stuff. Viewing over 3g or wifi. - You can view the alerts for motion recordings over wifi in case you have a bad cell connection for data. -Automatic alerts for motion detection. -You can share viewership of the camera to anyone that has the Yi app and a free account set up. - Great price. Cons: - I get a lot of false alerts from cars. - The motion detection follows the object in its view but i've only seen the camera move automatically from left to right or vice versa but it never moves up/down."

Along with this, their Android application required pretty much every single permission you can imagine (for no good reason).
