The Breville Smart Oven began with the simple fact that different foods require different methods of heating: some, like baked goods, need to be cooked evenly; others, like meats, need to be seared on top. An oven that does the thinking for you The Smart Oven is equipped with Element IQ cooking technology, which adjusts the power of the five individual quartz heating elements to cook food more evenly and quickly. In addition to dynamically distributing heat to different areas, the Smart Oven can adjust the wattage of its heating elements for even more cooking flexibility. For example, broiling requires high heat from above in order to melt and brown, so the Smart Oven activates 1500W of high heat from the top elements of the oven. On the other hand, toast needs to be cooked evenly on both sides without drying out the inside, so the Smart Oven uses high radiated heat from above and below (1800W distributed between four elements) to crisp the outside quickly. Product Features Easy-clean, stainless steel housing with ribbed plate warming tray Non-Stick Interior with 3 rack positions 13” pizza, 6-slice toast capacity Tempered glass door Magnetic auto-eject rack 5 quartz elements with Element IQ for smart cooking Back-lit easy-read LCD that calculates the correct the time and temperature, illuminating orange during preheating and cooking and blue once the cycle is complete Function dial with 9 pre-set cooking functions: bake, broil, roast, cookies, reheat, pizza, bagel, toast, warm Temperature and time dial with auto shut-off and sound alert Easily removable pull-out crumb tray. 9 present functions: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat and Warm.

"I then pushed the convection button and within 4 minutes, the temperature had dropped to 335-337. I learned that there are two ways to take advantage of the faster cooking of a convection oven: a) keep the temperature the same and shorten the time; b) keep the time the same and lower the temperature by 15-20 degrees."
"After setting up and doing the 15 minute burn in I used the oven twice for some hamburgers and toasted buns. After a 15 minutes unplugged the display has returned to normal (I have not tried to recreate the issue). It works well when you don't have to mess with glitchy LCD screens and over sensitive dials. UPDATE: After some more time with the oven I decided to get a thermometer and make sure I was getting the right temperature to see if the other reviews had some truth. The thermometer I just purchased reads roughly 100 or more degree cooler than what the ovens display says it should be at when the preheat is completed."
"The first oven had temp accuracy issues - as verified by two thermometers: an analog oven thermometer as well as a professional thermoworks digital probe thermometer (rated to 700F). The second oven was fine with temp control, but its internal fan didn't work. Breville to this point has been supportive to keep replacing these ovens, but I've just had a very negative experience with a Breville support rep. She claims that the oven is working fine, and that the oven will never sync with the temperatures shown by home thermometers. I very much appreciate their support policies to replace the ovens, but the bottom line is that each of the three ovens I've gone through have never worked as they should."
"Purchased in 2010 and it was in use daily, but today the side melted and caught on fire where one of the bottom heating elements meets the side."

"I first bought this oven several years ago, this is my second time buying it but the first time buying this 'special' model which adds the interior light and the longer warmer times - both of which are excellent additions and things I'd wished it had the first time around. I may now sound like a crazy person having bought an oven that I know from experience won't last long but this oven really is good enough to justify it in my opinion. And like all perfectly nice standard ranges, the oven stinks. It doesn't heat evenly, doesn't heat the right temperature and makes cooking in the oven a real chore. Unless you have a very expensive, very high-end oven, chances are it cooks a lot better than your normal oven. The important thing to know is that it heats evenly and exactly, all the features work perfectly and unless you can afford a very high-end oven it's likely to cook better than your existing appliance. Having used one for a few years now a bit of advice to keep it looking nice... wipe down the oven window after every use."
"The first thing I used this oven for was to bake two Cornish Game hens over a bed of cubed sweet potatoes. I love the small Lodge chefs platters with the wooden underliners to heat left overs in my Breville."
"Here are some of my thoughts... Pros: It bakes like a boss and with the added convection option it cooks nearly twice as fast as our gas oven. All the settings serve a practical purpose (e.g. broil, toast, reheat, frozen meals); there's not a bunch of useless bells and whistles. Cons: When removing food it can be difficult avoiding the inside of the super hot door with your knuckles. The baking pan, broiling pan, and pizza pan included are made of dark metal; dark metal is not ideal for toaster ovens (I dislike the dark metal in general). You have to keep items clear of the top and sides of toaster oven."
"Breville should be aware of this issue and fix the units that fail, even after warranty expires - I purchased my unit 18 months ago and warranty covers one year - and use a better quality thermal fuse in new units."
"The cord gets very, very hot."

"I bought this one refurbished, not from Amazon, still with the 2 year warranty and really love the large extra wide size. But you know what, my old one had the digital readout and controls but you had to keep punching the buttons to finally reach the desired temperature and length of time it stayed on. With the 'old fashioned' knobs of this Black and Decker I can quickly turn it to the desired temp and time.. Actually much better, faster, more efficient."
"We use it for all of the regular things that you would expect like toast, bagels, frozen prepared meals, pizza, etc. I do have to say that it cooks things more evenly than our previous toaster oven as well. I was specifically looking for a toaster oven with knobs versus a digital display. The knobs are easy to manoeuvre, but I did have a slight challenge making toast the first time. That's great when I want to be notified so that I can remove items from the oven, but when my kids are asleep, I have a migraine, etc then I would love the option to turn it off or lower the volume."
"I have been using a small toaster oven for several years, and recently had an opportunity to replace it with this new model from Black and Decker. After using it for several weeks, I can definitely recommend this model to anyone looking for a toaster oven with generous space, with easy-to-use controls, and which cooks fast. The knobs are nice and big, easy to grasp, and adjust smoothly and easily, even for finer settings. My old toaster -- and several other models on the market -- have a hinged tray at the bottom, which means you either have to dump crumbs out onto the counter, or you have to unplug and drag the whole unit over to your sink."

"It toasts my English muffins and bagels just the way I like them, and I'm glad to be able to bake foods without the greater heat that my stove adds to the kitchen. A 12-inch pizza will fit fine inside, and a 9x13 pan will fit as long as it does not have handles. I am attaching photos: 9x13 pan with unit door open and door closed, 12-inch pizza pan with door open and door closed, and broiler pan with the unit door open."
"The best aspect with this thing is that it actually gets to, and holds within ten degrees, the temperature that its set for! It comes on automatically when you press the start button and it shuts off when the timer runs out. The ovens door closes tight and seems to seal pretty good and the rack inside fits tight enough in its groove that it can be pulled out a few inches without tilting down making it easier to take out what ever your cooking. Its no big deal but it makes it a bit awkward keeping it out of the way when moving the oven. The other thing is the crumb tray fell out of it first time I went to set it on the counter and landed edge wise on my bare foot. It takes about 8 to 10 minutes to heat up and lightly toast a pan of Honey Buns. At 350 they will be hot and a little soft, at 400 they will start getting a little crunchy on the edges and the frosting turning to caramel. Some of the smaller toaster ovens will toast faster and the bigger ones take a lot longer of course. To get shocked by this toaster oven you would have to take the cover off of it, get soaking wet and stand in a puddle and just to make sure have one hand on the kitchen faucet then grab the wires inside the case. Even then you would have to make contact with a bare section of the hot wire coming into the oven. In other words, if you use this toaster oven in the manner that it was designed to be used it is impossible to be shocked by it. The only way it could be a fire hazard is if you stacked a bunch of papers on top of it and had some fall down behind it then used it at 450 degrees. However, the handle stays close to normal room temperature and is perfectly safe to use when the oven is hot. I don't know what CDL has against this toaster oven or why he has gone to such length to make it sound like it was designed to kill you and burn down your house to hide it. It has all the same safety features that are required by law and is just as safe to use as any of its competitors are, and probably safer than a lot of them. But since I have 6 different clocks in easy view in my living room and kitchen this is no big problem."
"Mom loves it!"
"One tip, in the old unit I used to keep the tray in for everything and use aluminum foil so I din't have to clean to after cooking. Cook without it and you only have to remove the slide out bottom tray which is aluminum and clean it in the sink. Try using some of the presets, they are pretty good and you can adjust the toast darkness with the up and down arrows to where you like it."
"We tried a couple of things but problem persisted (that never happened with our original model - the handle never got more than slightly warm). We're bummed because now we're having a hard time finding a toaster oven that is big enough to fit the things we like to cook but we didn't feel it was safe to keep this model."

"The reheat button comes in handy, especially when I space out - which happens a little more often these days ;) There are lots of toasters that claim to have a retro look but this is unique in it's old school feel. If it were me, I'd send the unit back in a New York second because Cuisinart needs the feedback, and more than that, the reviewers need a toaster they can count on."
"will burn the toast on the highest setting which is actually good because we sometimes buy the whole seed bread from the local bread shop and that would take two passes in the old toaster but once is enough on high in this one."
"Nice looking and easy to clean."
"So far so good, was a bit worried how light this toaster is but we will see if it lasts longer than 2 weeks like my other."
"Quick toaster."
"Got this toaster for my sister-in-law, the whole family seems to be very happy with it, makes toast and bagels perfectly."
"I bought this toaster to replace one that died."
"The toaster does what it it’s supposed to do toast bread Although not consistent from side to side."

"Best turkey I have ever cooked!"
"I read many reviews, and would like to start by saying there certainly is a lot of confusion concerning these roasters. We received it on time (2 days Prime shipping) and in excellent condition. I previously owned a roaster that burned two turkeys before I tossed it out, so I was reluctant to try again. My husband hunts, and kills a lot of wild pigs, so we have a ton of natural pork all the time. We received the roaster yesterday, and roasted two large shoulders in it today. I washed and patted the meat dry, and then used a rub all over both pieces. The two shoulders were very large, and filled the pan, but not so high that it was touching the lid. The total cooking time was 4.5 hours, and the meat was falling off the bone. I filled it with hot soapy water and soaked it, and then gently cleaned it. One word of advice, wipe off any prints or other debris before you use it, or they might bake on the outer finish. It is more expensive to build a quality machine, but it would last a long time and we would not be tossing them into the heap so soon. I do not expect this roaster to last through 10 years of moderate use, and I do plan to use it fairly often."
"23 pounds turkey done."
"I got partially defrosted turkey from the story, unwrapped it, put rosemary into the cavity, prepared a brine to baste it with and put in cavity, and later added butter/olive oil, garlic salt, pepper, and voila, after only 3 hours, my turkey was ready to serve."
"I used an external thermometer to monitor the turkey internal temp. To get a nice brown cook the turkey at the highest setting for 1/2 hour then set it to 325°F."
"We have only used it one time, for Thanksgiving, but it really did a nice job on the turkey."
"Made a 22 pound turkey for Thanksgiving."
"Only used it once and it cooked a perfect turkey."
