"For 40+ years I've made a little pile of charcoal and/or wood, soaked it with fluid, hit with a sparker and wham, big ball of flames! While visiting and watching me create the usual towering inferno, my friend Wayne suggested getting a chimney starter. "It kept us very warm at night even during the coldest of nights (lowest at night was 9 degrees F). I did run 4 space heaters (this one, a Lasko, and a radiator heater, plus one small 1500 watt utility heater) in 2 bedrooms, the living room & the washroom. We are still in some cold weather and I have learned to close off rooms that are not used, also put up curtains to close off rooms without a door (like the hallway that connects to the living room and the kitchen door that goes into the den) which helps to keep the warm air in that certain area without allowing in drafts. Closing off sections of the house we are not using in the cold days and nights has helped greatly to keep the rooms we are in warmer. it is one of the best heaters I have and would buy again from this brand. My reasons for picking this heater is because I wanted something that will stay cool to the touch and is hard to knock over because I have a 3-year-old and cats that are curious about anything in the house and I don't want any of them getting burned. I wanted a heater that would comfortably warm an ice cold room (old house, it gets very cold) both day and night and one that will last not only this winter but the next winter too."

I'm a career network engineer, so I'm a pretty techie kind of guy, I've had to arrange for power for large computer operation facilities,etc. So, I don't care whether it's quartz, infrared, how electricity it's using, or whether or not Dr. Heater is exaggerating the performance of their product, or whatever -- it heats, it works. It's not very heavy so I don't know why it has casters on it, but I guess they make it easier to move for changing direction of the air flow or whatever. And now I don't have to worry about anything to do with heaters and can move on to other more important things in my life (like some of the other reviewers here clearly need to do as well)."
"The last thing I tried before this was a radiator heater, which would've worked well had my AC not been leaking cold air all over the apartment. This heater heats up the entire apartment (not sure the exact size, but a small one bedroom one kitchen) perfectly. I've had it running since I got it yesterday, and unlike the radiator heater, its surface stays cool. Also, the problem with the heating mentioned in my second edit still stands: I was only able to bring the room up to 65 degrees with another heater I was running. On top of that, the customer service is completely unresponsive to my contact, so I can't even utilize the warranty to fix all my problems with the heater."

"A full container isn't that heavy, about 13.5 lbs, to carry with the single handle and to dump. I have a very large basement that had a high humidity of 60-70% or so it would fill the 13.1 container pints within the day, 12-24 hours. It works best in warmer weather (70's) which is when the humidity is high and mold can grow, warm and moist. I used the bucket for about 2 weeks to try it out and then I switched to the continuous drain tube which I connected a piece of clear vinyl tube (1 1/4 inch outer dia, 1 inch inner dia) from Home Depot which I connected to a "T" connector that I installed on my A/C condensation line that runs outside."

"The humidity sensor must be placed in the reservoir, because as soon as the fan clicks off, the humidity readout immediately starts climbing quickly. The poor sensor placement in the design makes the unit think it is 55% when it truly isn't. So it will click off at 45, then 10 min later it thinks its 55, the unit will click on, and immediately when the air flow is resumed, the sensor sees that its not as high as it thought, and you'll see the readout drop quickly back down. This unit could actually use a ton less energy if the sensor was placed in a location to get more accurate readings (maybe in a isolated chamber with vents directly outside of the unit, instead of INside the unit where all the water is collecting?)."

With a true HEPA filter that you replace once a year (opposed to once a month) it would save money in the long run. Set up was easy straight out of the box, and I put it out of traffic areas in the house. In fact with it on high I noticed a tag on the other side of the room (directly across) was moving on one of the toys yesterday as I was cleaning. I am super excited at the thought of having better air quality in the house so we dont have as many issues, and I know it will take probably a good month for me to be able to judge that (and trust me I keep up with our flair ups b/c my son sees a specialist so I can tell you if it will make a difference or not). Sorry took me so long to come back and update =) Fortunately if you see below I did give a heads up three weeks in we still loved it. Within the first month I stopped waking up with a stuffy nose, and it was taking particles out of the air so I wasn't seeing as much dust. We have since moved to a larger place, that has more sq footage in the den, and also two open doorways leading to other rooms. I think a big contributor to not catching it is because we had this unit running on high with the uv light."
