I removed this ring & lever assembly and the dispensing was no longer blocked, but not sealed as well. Second, the white text on many of the buttons has completely worn off - I must program the unit from memory/habit. This unit was sold by Amazon and arrived in flawless new condition in brand new packaging. This machine replaces my two consecutive Cuisinart Grind-n-Brew coffee makers which also had thermal carafes, 10-cup size. It runs quietly and shuts off quickly, instead of making all sorts of banging and hissing noises like other machines do. This fits under the counter better, and takes up less space than my previous machines and competitors I considered before purchasing. On other brands, you have to hold the setting button down and wait for the display to start blinking before advancing. The LCD clock has big digits, but the display is recessed back behind the panel and is loses contrast as the viewing angle is higher. PROS: *Attractive unit. *Small footprint & height on counter. *Large capacity. *Good coffee flavor. *Remembers last strength setting. *Water level indicator on outside. *Easy cleaning of pot and filter holder. *Electronics positioned above carafe (safer). *Quiet operation. *Easy cleaning. *Easy to read instructions. CONS: *Hard-to-view clock, especially for taller folks. *Big flip lid on top requires pulling out from cabinets to fill. *Bumping big Hour/Minute buttons readily advances clock. *No back-up for power failure, loses time with a moment of power fail. *No filter supplied with machine. *Lever to dispense breaks over time inside carafe cap. *Text on buttons wears off over time."
"I like it. Normal, Strong and Bold. I used Strong and yes it was strong with using the normal amount with our prior coffee maker and this was with a paper filter. I am not sure why they state that this has a permanent filter so I will go buy a mesh filter. Pros. ~Temperature was 170 just brewed after 30 minutes the temp dropped a couple of degrees after 1 hour the temp was 164 3 hrs later temp was 145. Regular coffee makers suck the energy especially when left on for hours. More than my other coffee maker."

A plastic container I tried had the rubber seal change colors on me after a few weeks, and even worse, trapped some water inside the hollow walls when I cleaned it. The material being stainless is great, it will be a breeze to clean if I ever feel the need to do so, probably just a quick wipedown with a damp cloth would do the trick. Comparing the last bit of coffee in the canister to a new bag, there was a slight difference in aroma, but nothing even remotely close to what I experienced before."
