Find Best Price at Amazon"I was a little bit worried about the batteries running out of power and being locked out of my house, however, the unit comes with an additional battery pack that you can hide outside of your house and if you ever do run out of power you can plug it into the knob and punch in your code and enter into your house. Now do not worry the knob will give you ample time to alert you to a low battery so you don't have to guess when to change the batteries. I still have not changed my batteries since I bought this knob). This unit is capable of storing many different codes so if you have friends or family members you can issue them each their own codes! I have only one suggestion:When you install the battery pack I would put a small strip of tape around the battery doors. We have a habit of slamming the front door closed and after months and months of this I thought the battery was dead but after using the power pack and getting into the house I discovered that when the door was slammed the battery door slide open a little and one of the batteries poped out of contact."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I consider the keypad a necessity if you are going to buy the August Smart lock. Finally I get my phone out, wait for it to find the lock and unlock the door. Lastly, I'm not at all happy that I can't set a schedule for when other peoples codes are active. If I give the house cleaner a code, I can't say that it only works on Tuesday. There have been several updates to the device, one of which was meant to improve battery life, but its hard to say at this point whether it helped. My wife still complains about it not taking her code maybe once every five times she uses it and I'm still apologizing for it's unreliability."

"Quick background info...we purchased nearly the entire August lineup in April 2016 for our vacation rental home...the lock, connect, and this keypad. This was the primary reason of purchasing this system for us, as we wanted to remotely access and change settings. Our rental home is located in a different town hundreds of miles from where we live. I've noticed that some of their marketing material has changed since our purchase, clarifying many of the issues and limitations we have encountered. I can't believe we spent almost $400 dollars, have no functional lock system, AND are looking at the possibility of no refund. We'll be back to our rental house in about a week to hopefully install a new update that will fix most of the issues. If that update doesn't work as promised we'll be removing the lock and throwing it in the trash if we can't get our money back."
