I could not verify the full 12 hours (fell sleep....), but it seems to me they can last that much. In short in outdoors is where this device is truly useful, where the wind and/or rain would make cumbersome other methods of lighting and signaling. On a side note I bought it directly from Amazon, but they ship it without any padding on a big document envelope, while the envelope itself has a little padding, this is too thin and the box containing the sticks got a little mauled."
