"Etekcity Line of Lasergrip IR Themometers ( 1022D, 800, & 630) compared to Klein IR1000. I am not a Professional HVAC or auto mechanic but I do a lot of work myself on my home and vehicles.. An IR thermometer has many uses. I bought this as a homeowner to verify hot/cold spots around my home. I decided I would go with Etekcity Line IR thermometer based on Amazon Best seller Etekcity 774 (best seller most reviewed and priced very affordable at $16.88). After researching other Etekcity models I found many different options that offered different ranges, features, and spot/distance ratios up to 16:1 with 12:1 being the higher standard and what most higher end brands have.. spot/distance ratios range from 8:1 to 16:1 in this class of IR tool. I submitted a question to them through Amazon and Etekcity responded within the same day offering to call me , as I had a lot of questions..I was able to immediately open a chat conversation with Etekcity customer reps and they were VERY helpful in explaining to me the advantages / differences in all of their IR thermometers. Etekcity 1022D- $19.99 Etekcity Lasergrip 1022D Non-contact Digital Infrared Thermometer, Dual Laser, Blue. my first IR from Etekcity: I like the idea of Dual lasers & adjustable emissivity. Etekcity 800 Lasergrip - $25.98 Etekcity Lasergrip 800 Non-contact Digital Laser IR Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun, Yellow/Black. Features: Single Laser. 16:1 distance to Spot ratio. Emissivity- FIXED at .95. Range: -58℉ - 1382℉. After a disappointing test of the Etekcity 1022D I read reviews and decided to look at the 800, It features better accuracy at range with a 16:1 distance spot ration. *** Etekcity 630 Dual Lasergrip - $29.99 Etekcity Lasergrip 630 Dual Laser Non-contact Digital Infrared Thermometer, Gray and Black. First impression was how it was packaged in a nice solid cardboard box ( unlike the plastic blister packs of the others including the Klein. The most features, options and in my tests most accurate ( accuracy is negligible between 800 & 630 both are well with in the +/- .5 to 2.0 tolerance). Features: Dual laser for better accuracy. 16:1 Distance to Spot Ratio. Emissivity: ADJUSTABLE. Range: -58℉~1076℉. Multi function menu options ( MAX/Min temp setting, AVG and Diff/ TD). I chose the 630 over the 800 mainly due to the extra menu options ( AVG, MAX, MIn , Diff) adjustable emissivity ,and dual laser aside form that the 800 & 630 perform identically. the 1022D and 774 are priced well at under $20.00 but for more features and higher specs I think one will not go wrong with the Etekcity 800 or Feature rich Etekcity 630."
"This device is probably the best single purchase that I have made on Amazon in my three-plus years of Prime membership. It functions wonderfully as a distance thermometer, shining a tiny red dot on what I'm measuring and, based on comparison with a thermoscan camera at work, is pretty accurate across a range of temperatures from 0°F up to about 400°F. The button that turns on the device has a very soft click, barely perceptible, so it won't distract your faithful (or in the case of cats) persistent companions. *Probably won't reliably measure the temperature of flames at a safe enough distance, so don't get too close to fire."
"I bought this product because I thought my refrigerator was not cold enough, and I saw the tech that previously came out using a lazer thermometer to gauge the temps inside."

"I was able to snake this thing up there and see everything that I was doing with my hand, and also lay under the car in a comfortable position while I watched what I was doing on my phone. Most of us are carrying around super high quality video monitors in our pockets, so I decided to give this device a try. Also those more expensive units have the cable connected to the screen which is usually mounted to some kind of handle. I have a magnet attached to the back of my phone and it just stuck right up to the pan on the bottom of the transmission. As to durability, I have only had it a week or so and it's holding up so far, although I can envision some problems over time with repeated flexing of the cable. The view you get with it is just like with your phone camera, meaning if you rotate the scope clockwise, the image will also turn which can be disorienting. I got the camera in the right orientation and then bent a "W" shape in the cable a few feet back from the end of the scope. The app allows you to show a mirror image of what you are scoping and you can get rid of the icons on the screen so they don't interfere with what you are trying to look at with the camera. Pros: Price, image quality for live video, stills and captured video, long cable length, WiFi connectivity. Cons: Cheap WiFi box, barebones app, resolution not really changeable."

"Focus range is extremely limited: 1.2" to 2.4" (3 cm - 4 cm-- same as what the company website says). I'm quite surprised that something with such a tiny sensor would have such a minimum depth of field (focus) (Technically these are different terms, but bottomline is: is it sharp enough to tell what it is? The blurry results from my ear nixed any ideas of DIY colonoscopies.... the other areas it was pretty useless. "I've checked that the air coming out of my AC is cold, what the temperature is in different rooms in my house, and 25 ft ceilings, if my pizza is safe to eat without getting pizza palate, I also insulated the compressor pipe on the outside of my house."
"This will roughly give you a temperature of 212 F. Boiling water, in equilibrium (or the entire fluid being the same temperature) will maintain 212F no matter how quickly the water is evaporating. In practice, these are used for taking a quick, general measurement of fluid temperature or identifying heat losses. I have used this at my home to identify what rooms are cooler then others, draughts around doors or windows and leaks in the HVAC system."
"Warnings about pointing at animals and people should be strictly adhered to as with any laser product to prevent eye damage and shouldn’t be used or handled by children."
"It seemed to be not as accurate as this unit and lasted just several years and then began to give random readings."
"Lots of custom/ aftermarket parts makes troubleshooting a little more involved than a factory car."
"IF you need high precision readings then I would recommend stepping up to a better model with the ability to calibrate temps and dial in the correct emessivity for different surfaces."
"Black roof asphalt shingle in afternoon, 189, after coating with white gloss acrylic latex paint, 114."

"Initially I purchased this to find hot spots in my home and better utilize fans to reduce my A/C usage."
"Update: As mentioned above, we purchased this because we were experiencing issues with our duct work and wanted to record the differences in wall/ceiling temps in the area where we believed there was a leak. We realized though that they reused some old ducts in our hallway and at the end of the hall was where the energy audit, and this temperature gun, were recording temps several degrees higher than the walls and ceilings just a couple of feet away. When we tore out the sheetrock, we found that at some point one of the duct branches had been changed and, instead of sealing it off, the end was left open and was blowing heated air into the chase, the attic, and my closet!"
"DUAL lasers in a pattern that crosses with one another. The meat in the middle of my freezer was -5 degrees and the icecream on the top shelf was 17 degrees.. That explains the frost/freezer burn my icecream was suffering from!"
"These readings are at the bottom and you can read those from your previous use but the temp at top in your bold numbers will now read the rooms temp as it apparently samples you room temp once it turns itself off? When it goes to sleep mode hit trigger once and release and it will wake up after about a second and you can read the previous readings you took using the small digits at the bottom, and you can scroll through the high, low, and average reading you had taken before with the mode button."

"After I read some of the negative reviews, I was worried I might have made a mistake buying the digital calipers. Ill be able to now measure the hole and part sizes on my 3D prints without having to eye ball them on the manual scale calipers I used before. Be sure you are hitting the off button when you are done measuring rather than waiting for it to do so automatically and youll save battery life."
"I have no way to confirm long distance measurement accuracy with NIST-type standards (I can only correlate self-measured distances with what the stated distances are of the pieces I am measuring by the companies producing the pieces), but I like the fact that when the calipers are closed-up, a zero-ing function is available to zero-calibrate the calipers."
"It's not going to hold up to the rough service we gave our maintenance instruments but for non professional work these are a good bargain. I suspect repeatability could be an issue after long term every day use but have no proof of this; just my experience using calipers."
"But for projects I'll be designing and printing with my 3d printer, this is the best option."
"i use it to try to get exact measurements on like, 3d printed calibration shapes and some other bits and pieces i want to measure."
"(Video Size and Quality was reduced to meet Amazons limits, Watch the full video on my YouTube GadgetClass channel). The Neiko seems to get decent reviews, probably mainly because it is the cheapest one and soo many more people have bought it, but compared to all of the other calipers in the roundup it actually scored low across the entire data set. Fluke 117 Electricians True RMS Multimeter
With its integrated non-contact voltage detection and the AutoV/LoZ function preventing false readings caused by ghost voltage, the Fluke 117 Electrician's Multimeter is the ideal multimeter for electricians. Enter your model number to make sure this fits.
Reviews
"(Note: as of 2015 there are two cheaper lines made by Fluke but I know little about them aside from the fact that they are stripped down a bit.). Basically, you can work on most panel boards / switch gear and anything down stream of them (i.e. - feeders, outlets, hard wired equipment, and anything plugged into them.). CATIV is the only rating higher and it adds service drops to the list as well as underground installations. So basically CATIII is the MINIMUM rating you want on your meter and you can't probe the main drop from the power company. I love the sturdiness of this meter, it a Fluke, so it's the brick crap house of DMMs. The rubber holster offers excellent 5 side protection and it feels good in the hand. Most people fail to realize just how much force 10A can carry; this meter uses a single high quality ceramic HRC fuse and all of the standard additional suppression devices to give the user maximum protection. The case is designed with a deep lip / blast shield as well to protect against debris being blown out the sides in the event of truly catastrophic failure. This is a low impedance voltage test that operates on something close to a 3,ooo Ohm resistance. Flipping to the low impedance mode allows this ghost voltage to “dissipate” and read what's really on the line (which should be less than half a volt on a circuit that’s de-energized.). The resistance on a PCB in electronics circuit can often be much higher than 3,000 Ohms...you could short out that segment of your board by allowing current to flow through the meter as apposed in parallel to it. This is why traditional meters use mega ohm class resistors to test voltage, and most of the time that's fine. So always start out in "normal" volts AC or DC then if ghost voltages are suspect, then switch to the LoZ range. It's a latched system which means you get a positive tone every time a circuit is completed. The "Volt Alert" is a non-contact voltage detector that functions the same as those pen style testers that have been on the market for years. It's nice to test walls for live electrical lines prior to drilling or nailing into them. It features high and low sensitivity modes for different wall thicknesses. However in my opinion the amperage range is quite useful for a general purpose meter and perfectly geared for electricians or homeowners. It's written in 9 languages but it's still simple and easy to understand while at the same time giving the user all the information and data that they could possibly need about this meter. So it drops a digit every factor of 10 up to 600.0 (i.e - 6.000, 60.00, 600.0) Now having said all of that, the accuracy isn't reflected in the screen's numeric resolution. Basically, you look at the reading on the display (we'll imagine measuring against a precision voltage reference of 1.000V) The first step is to add AND subtract half of a percent to get a range (in our example 0.995V & 1.005V) then you add and subtract 2 counts. Honestly for precision testing that could be quite a bit, which is why high accuracy bench top meters costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars, however for general purpose measurments, this is actually is really good accuracy. This would leave my other hand free to hold the meter and push the button. Just mark the price up another 2 bucks and give us a pouch for our meters here Fluke! A set of alligator clips would've been nice, but alas nope... Sold separately. Honestly, I have a few Fluke products and a disappointing lack of accessories is actually a common problem. If you find a Fluke Kit for the meter you're interested in at a reasonable price...GET IT! Sure Fluke has a "market" and therefore a "price" in mind, but they build their units to a "standard" first. At the end of the day, they know that these units have been tested rigorously and "proven" so that when they need quality and survivability, as well as maximum personal protection these meters will perform."
"Best meter I have!"
"It does what it is meant to do."
"Awesome Voltage meter at a really good price."
"I especially like the Lo-Z setting, which pays no attention to the ghost voltage one otherwise sees in mains power (120V 60Hz) because of voltage induced from other lines in the vicinity of those in the circuit your measuring."
"You can't go wrong with Fluke."
"The NCV checker is a great little extra just to quickly check if a panel is really dead."
"I use it to trouble shoot access control and alarm security systems."

"The tone is triggered even if you're not on top of the outlet and because of that, even though the outlet was hidden behind some stuff on a shelf, I still heard the tone, softly, starting to sound. I uncovered the outlet, discovered it was actually a GFI that had tripped, and fixed the problem in 5 seconds. I plugged the toner into the outlet in my office, then went behind the entertainment center to find out which Ethernet port it was wired to."

"I keep the radiators off but I suspected some heat was coming out from them anyway. I went downstairs and checked my neighbor's door and it was almost 80 degrees! Sure, your hand can tell if something is 20 degrees hotter than something else but you hand is really poor at telling if one thing is, for example, 3 degrees hotter than another (and 3 degrees can matter in a room if it's over a large surface area)."

"I use this device to determine the temperature of my cast iron pans when I use them for searing meats."
"It's quite accurate and reads quickly and seems to be kid and idiot proof."
"I compared surface readings on the inside of an insulated box to the air temperature inside the box measured with a NIST certified digital thermometer (thermister) and they were within 0.1 to 0.3 degrees F (measurements were limited to a range of 75-90 degrees). "The only nits I can pick are: 1) The little foam wind sock that sticks over the end is pretty flimsy and it comes off too easily, but not a biggie; and 2) The battery cover is attached with a tiny Phillips head screw, rather than having a cover that simply snaps on. So you'll need to find a very small #3 Phillips head screwdriver just to remove the batteries, and let's hope you don't have to do this at night or in the bush. The batteries are the el cheapo type that probably have about 25% of the lifespan of a good pair, but otherwise, this is a very nice unit that's probably way overkill for just recording the neighbor's late night parties."
"I have an older DB meter that does straight readings."
"I bought this Sound Level Meter because even though the FCC law went into effect awhile ago that TV commercials are supposed to be at the same volume as the rest of the broadcast stations programming, I'm constantly turning the volume down for the commercials and back up when the show I'm watching comes back on."
"We have used this on numerous occasions: checking noise level of a window air conditioner to determine if there was any way to dampen the noise level via adding various barriers around window; checking noise level of mowers, tractor, and weed eaters - though we always wear some sort of protective ear gear (plugs or muffs)."
"This meter measures sounds of 40-130 decibels."
"Did what we needed to do with this."
"This is a very good decibel meter."
"He's been playing with it all week testing everything from car highway noise to heavy duty machinery at work and has found that it reads quickly, accurately and the memory function is quite useful."

"You simply draw your metal across a stone slate and then apply a drop of the appropriate liquid and watch for color changes that indicate the karat content of the metal."
"The ones I've used appear to work, aside from the one that tells you what a metal is.... it looks like it shows the same for all metals."
"With a bit of searching online, I was able to find the best ways to gather a sample without leaving noticeable abrasive marks and answered my question about whether a new rub of sample for the next stronger concentration( for gold testing) was more accurate."
"Sometimes these work as they should, but they sometimes don't."
"Yes it tested all my jewelry just fine but I don't feel they supplied enough directions and safety measures should always be standard on any acid."
"Tested all my gold and silver jewelry to see if the stamping were accurate and surprising all passed the test thanks to this product!"
"Great kit at an affordable price to identify precious metals in old jewelry."
"Hard to read."

"I have had a horrible time finding good replacement electrodes for my TENS unit. I assume that is a requirement for these types of items, but it is the first time I have actually seen that for electrodes that I have ordered online."
"They keep their sticky longer and I appreciate that they are cloth and not foam, which is less flexible."
"I got quite a few, as most of the others I'd used weren't sticky after a couple of uses, and I was using it quite frequently due to nerve 'aggravation' following surgery. I've attached a picture of the connectors from my TENS unit next to a ruler and the electrode connectors."
"The reasons that I am so happy with these Syrtenty 2" Square TENS Unit Electrodes 2x2 -... is that they are high quality and last a very long time."
"My wife uses her TENS unit 18 hours per day plus, so we use a lot of electrodes, but these are the best yet."
"I have a BODYMED Model 250 TENS unit which came with 4 small 1 inch square pads. These are much better than the pads that came with the unit."
