Having bought and read his Professional tournament series (I own all 3 of those books both in physical and digital form) I knew that Jonathan Little is a "little" expert in producing great books with solid content, that can teach you well about the game and elevate your poker play."
"The books are not meaty.....and lack depth, but they more then make up for that with original thinking and out of the box concepts. As an intermediate player I have found his books very interesting because they challenge my tight aggressive stance.....with a very clear explanation of the benefits of playing loose aggressive."
"If you are an advanced player who understands or is currently beating lower buy-in live tournaments this book is not for you. I kept thinking to myself, "I hope my opponents I play in low boy-in tournaments don't get this book.""
"It`s not like magic happened and I will now crush the games, but at least I`m now aware of how I should leave my "comfort zone" and adjust my game when playing against 5 different types of players I meet at low stakes tournaments: 1) Too loose too passive. 2) Too loose too aggresive. 3) Too tight too passive. 4) Too tight too aggresive. 5) Optimal players, who are in a process of moving up in stakes. I even realized that actually I`m in one of the first 4 groups and that`s why I`m still in low stakes games... I`ve used gained knowledge (and making 5$ cost payed off very quickly) against a guy from group 5 during very next local league tournament, when I checked-raised his cbet from UTG (I was defending BB) because I had backdoor flush draw on K with my KTo and flop (7s6sx) was good for my range and not for my opponent."

Now a major motion picture, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and starring Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, and Michael Cera—the true story of "Hollywood’s poker princess" who gambled everything, won big, then lost it all. When Molly Bloom was a little girl growing up in a small Colorado town, she watched her brothers win medals, ace tests, and receive high praise from everyone they met. Her clients ranged from iconic stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck to politicians and financial titans so powerful they moved markets and changed the course of history. With rich detail, Molly describes a world that until now has been shrouded in glamour, privilege, and secrecy, one where she fearlessly took on the Russian and Italian mobs—until she met the one adversary she could not outsmart, even though she had justice on her side: the United States government.

The incredible true story of the card-counting mathematics professor who taught the world how to beat the dealer and, as the first of the great quantitative investors, ushered in a revolution on Wall Street. A child of the Great Depression, legendary mathematician Edward O. Thorp invented card counting, proving the seemingly impossible: that you could beat the dealer at the blackjack table. Along the way, the so-called godfather of the quants played bridge with Warren Buffett, crossed swords with a young Rudy Giuliani, detected the Bernie Madoff scheme, and, to beat the game of roulette, invented, with Claude Shannon, the world’s first wearable computer. An intellectual thrill ride, replete with practical wisdom that can guide us all in uncertain financial waters, A Man for All Markets is an instant classic—a book that challenges its readers to think logically about a seemingly irrational world. “In A Man for All Markets , [Thorp] delightfully recounts his progress (if that is the word) from college teacher to gambler to hedge-fund manager. Edward O. Thorp launched revolutions in Vegas and on Wall Street by turning math into magic, and here he weaves his own life lessons into a page-turner as hot as a deck full of aces. “Whether you are an aspiring professional player, a casual gambler, or an occasional visitor to Las Vegas, you can feel the impact of Edward O. Thorp’s intellect on that desert city. The text was based on Thorp’s original research that stemmed from his curiosity about the game of 21 and was billed as a how-to book for the layperson to beat the casinos at blackjack. A Man for All Markets chronicles Thorp’s personal journey in navigating the unexpected and sometimes dangerous obstacles that come along with challenging the status quo of a wealthy corporate adversary.” —Nicholas G. Colon, professional advantage gambler and managing director, Alea Consulting Group. Find the formula for valuing financial options but use it to make money rather than win a Nobel Prize? This book is in part the gripping story of how one man’s genius and dedication has solved so many problems in diverse fields. But more important, it’s a fascinating insight into the thought processes of someone with little interest in fame, who has mostly stayed under the radar, yet who has followed his inquisitive mind wherever it has led him, and reaped the resulting rewards.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Edward Thorp is a remarkable man - a polymath of science, computing, mathematics, and finance - and I have looked up to him for a large portion of my life, from when I read "Beat the Dealer" as an impressionable young teenager, to my career in finance as I learned more about his incredible investing exploits, told skillfully in Poundstone's "Fortune's Formula". Third, his investment management career, which was so consistently successful until it came to a screeching halt on federal charges against members of the east coast branch of his firm (Thorp does appear to have been completely uninvolved and unaware). Fourth, and longest, a 120+ page meditation on the recent past, including a handful of successful investment ideas that have been discussed ad nauseam elsewhere (thrift conversions, the Palm/3Com arbitrage trade, statistical arb) and long ruminations on compound interest, personal finance, the hedge fund industry, personal fitness, time, and his interesting but fairly tangential interactions with Warren Buffett, among other things."
"An amazing life."
"As a mathematician, trained in California, Thorp has been a hero to me."
"Having informally followed some of the core life principles guided in this book, I am truly enriched after reading it and look forward to the future as I walk a similar path if I can be so fortunate."
"It condenses the knowledge of a great mind into understandable and useful advise."
"Great book about a very interesting lad."

Their small blackjack club develops from an experiment in counting cards on M.I.T.’s campus into a ring of card savants with a system for playing large and winning big. "Shy, geeky, amiable" MIT grad Kevin Lewis, was, Mezrich learns at a party, living a double life winning huge sums of cash in Las Vegas casinos. Expanding on the "hi-lo" card-counting techniques popularized by Edward Thorp in his 1962 book, Beat the Dealer, the MIT group's more advanced team strategies were legal, yet frowned upon by casinos. Backed by anonymous investors, team members checked into Vegas hotels under assumed names and, pretending not to know each other, communicated in the casinos with gestures and card-count code words. Although Mezrich's prose never rises above serviceable (and he pointlessly injects himself into the narrative at every turn), the story he tells will grip anyone who has ever hoped to break the bank at Monte Carlo.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Well not a gambler in the sense of giving my money away to the casinos, because I know the odds are rigged to the benefit of the house. The only difference is the market will not "take you for a one way ride into the desert". I highly recommend the book or the movie."
"However, without nerves of steel to hold them steady when carrying and betting huge sums of money while avoiding threats of being caught in their lucrative activities, they would not have succeeded, brilliant as they were."
"Good read, very interesting."
"Good luck putting this book down...you will most likely finish in one sitting."
"They may have taken Vegas, but ultimately greed, technology, and inflated egos, brought them down."
"Loved the movie, and love the book."
"If they weren't going up against an entity detested more than "big oil" we may not root them on...But, you will root for them as they leave carnage in the pits because you know given the opportunity, you would do the same (hopefully you would not let it become your life and religion since your moral compass balances you). Ben Mezrich's book is a bit slight, but is fun and you'll likely zip through it in a couple of sittings because it has good tension and the constant thrill provided by the six is palpable as they manipulate the odds."
"What this book does offer is a short and easy to read storyline regarding the lives of MIT students who took many casinos, most prominently in Las Vegas, for considerable money with a team effort card counting system for Blackjack."

It tells the story of his rediscovery of astonishment--and the importance of wonder in everyday life--during his trip to the slums of India, where he infiltrated a three-thousand-year-old clan of street magicians. Nate Staniforth, magician and former host of the Discovery Channel's TV show Breaking Magic, takes us along his journey from wide-eyed kid trying to convey his sense of wonder to the adults around him, to young magician trying to get a break in LA, to the demands and drudgery of constant touring, to finally feeling that he’s lost the sense of awe that originally set him on his course. What results is a thoughtful, often moving memoir about a man who truly understands (and loves and respects) his craft, even more so for the struggles he has had with it. —Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review "A personal story that conjures up the wonder and magic of life without any trickery or deceit." "A vivid, deeply compelling, startlingly personal account of life on the far side of the illusion." - Chris Guillebeau, New York Times bestselling author of SIDE HUSTLE and THE HAPPINESS OF PURSUIT. "A real gem; a great read that belongs on the shelf of creative inspiration right next to Art & Fear . As irresistible as his quest for magic is, it's Staniforth's urgent feeling for the craft, and the meaning behind it, that should make all artists―writers, actors, musicians, everyone―take note.

"The second part is about how to disappear, Kolkata, the train to Varanasi, the snake charmer, Godmen, choomantar, go North, now we put the river to sleep, the poet, the street magicians of Shadipur depot, the train to Jodhpur, and here is real magic. In conclusion, this is a well-written and interesting story for anyone who is fascinated by magicians and the real magic all around us."
"He is insightful and gives deep thought to the place of awe and wonder and magic tricks. Since there isn’t a “look inside” feature available for this book at the time I’m writing this review, here’s the table of contents (to give you a better idea of what if covers): Part One. 1: Alchemy. 2: How to Be a Starving Artist. 3: Tour. 4: How to Light Yourself on Fire. 5: The Break. Part Two. 6: How to Disappear. 7: Kolkata. 8: The Train to Varanasi. 9: The Snake Charmer. 10: Godmen. 11: Choomantar. 12: Go North. 13: Now We Put the River to Sleep. 14: The Poet. 15: The Street Magicians of Shadipur Depot. 16: The Train to Jodhpur. 17: Here Is Real Magic. To be clear about the magic this book is and is not about, here’s a quote from the book, “I had learned by this point that some people do not like magic. For many, the word brings to mind laser beams, smoke machines, and tight leather pants. It conjures images of Las Vegas showmen, of style without substance, of overblown, underwhelming spectacle heavy on cliché and light on actual ideas.” This is not the type of magic that this book is about."
