"This might be their best spiralizer yet! Note that it is small, compact, and easy to store, with the 2 extra Blades held in the plastic Blade Storage Caddy/ container, while 2 other Blades are kept under the unit and a third is in the Blade Rack. * Optional: I flipped over each of the 5 Blades after having arranged them in size from: 2 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, 5.5 mm, to Flat. For spiralizing, I don’t use the light-green Side Handle because it is more comfortable for me to use my left hand, instead, to hold the Blade plate secured into the Rack. Brieftons spiralizers typically produce 3-4 foot-long food spirals, which are beautiful to see coming out of the unit, and are great for dinner party guests to see to go ‘ooh and aah’. Note that there is a Platform slide safety mechanism, which stops this slide slightly before reaching the Rack (with Blade in it), preventing the Platform slide from running into the teeth of the Holder and damaging them; this is one feature that many spiralizers don’t have, and it is an important one to have to save time by not having to think about when to stop working. Blade insertion and removal is a dream – so easy, yet the Blades lock securely into the Blade Rack base on the Body, to protect the user and surrounding people who are nearby, from having unsecured blades pop out and do injury. Watch my vid and note that this spiralizer (like all Brieftons tabletop units) picks up my 11.25 pound (5 kilo) marble cutting board with ease. Note that for this reason (needing adequate shoulder/ arm strength to lock the lever down), it is advisable NOT to do the following: do NOT spiralize at a kitchen table, desk, or even a coffee table; no spiralizer works well this way. (*Note that all tabletop spiralizer brands and models are affected by user height, in order to have the power to spiralize – not just Brieftons models. COMMON FOODS TO SPIRALIZE with SOME BR-5B-02 BLADE MM NUMBERS TO USE: (Experiment on your own to find other Blade combinations.). Bell Peppers: FLAT for spirals (Note: Use green, red, yellow, orange veg that are square only – not elongated, twisted varieties that don’t spiralize.). Russett/ Baking Potato: 3 MM for spirals. 5. Sweet Potato: 5.5 MM for spirals (peeled beforehand because this is a hard food). 6. Carrot: 2 MM for spirals. 7. V-shaped Chips: FLAT (with 2 ditches, pre-cut at 180 degrees apart: see the brieftons.com demo vid/ instruction sheet with graphics). C. PRODUCT & COMPANY INFORMATION: This Brieftons BR-5B-02 Spiralizer with 5 Blades (the 2nd 5-Blade spiralizer, the 2017 edition) is a strong, sturdy lateral machine workhorse/ travel partner, made of super-strong, long-lasting, impact-resistant, BPA-free ABS plastic and super-sharp (rust-free) Japanese #420 grade steel Blades. 5 Blades arranged in size: 2 MM, 3 MM, 5 MM, 5.5MM, and FLAT. 2. A Blade Plate safety to lock into the Rack for faster spiralizing without having to think about when to stop working. 4. #420 grade Japanese ultra-sharp Blades, which make for super-smooth, fast spiralizing. 10."
"Before, with the older model, when I wanted to cut something firm, say a potato, or sweet potato, or a wide carrot, I had to spread my left hand really wide, hooking my two last fingers over the blade holder, and then reaching out and hooking my thumb over the small metal fold-out handle. Then I could use that hand pressing down to stabilize the machine, while closing my hand to provide enough pressure to move the vegetable into the blades while I turned the rotating handle with my right hand. But now, with the suction cup to stabilize the machine, and with the new, larger fold-down handle to press the vegetable into the blade, I have much more control with markedly less effort while I spiralize firm veggies; my left hand pushes, my right hand cranks the rotating handle, and the vegetable gets sliced."
"The green knob guide on the side is very sturdy and also flips up for easy storage."
"The brands I had before were not as sturdy or well made as my Brieftons spiralizer."
"The old one would slide some when using the spiralizer and also almost tear out the 4 small suction cups when trying to remove it from the counter. Plus, this cuts extremely well and their site has great support videos, instructions and recipe books."

"Below are some details for those of you on the hunt: A while back I decided to buy a spiralizer and began looking through the options on Amazon. It quickly became clear that nearly every brand had dozens and sometimes hundreds of fake five-star reviews posted on their respective pages. In the end I bought this Paderno Spiral Vegetable Slicer, because it was the best-seller and I felt I really couldn't fully rely on the reviews for any of the options. We'll break up the review by dividing the various considerations into different vegetable categories, including a lot of things I'd wish I'd known before I bought the Paderno. The Paderno does a fairly good job with the stalks, but the lack of any kind of catcher for the noodles does drive me crazy. With hard veggies, you have to hold the small handle at the base (pulling the vegetable snug to the blade) while turning the crank at the same time. I highly recommend washing the blades and unit off immediately after spiralizing to A) make clean up easy instead of ghastly and B) prevent staining. It has two big advantages over the Paderno: There is a chute to catch your spirals and the blades are color-coded, so we can find the right one instantly. The color-coded blades, the chute on the front, and the better suction cups on the Faberware are the major differences that affected performance."
"It makes quick work of everything I throw at it and to date that would include: radishes. carrots. cucumbers. onions (they work a little differently from the other vegetables). kohlrabi (makes a fabulous, refreshing salad). zucchini (I can never remember how many "Ns" are in that vegetable). apples and, sweet potatoes. I may even have done a celeriac but I can't recall for sure. I had to give up pasta a few months back and I found myself missing the act of twirling long strands of food on a fork. It was then that I searched for a spiral slicer, not sure if one existed that could meet my fork twirling needs. The First four (large) cucumbers took all of 4 minutes to break down into perfect, long, spirally strands. So, it wouldn't make sense to try to shred baby carrots or asparagus because they aren't much larger than 3/8ths of an inch so there wouldn't be much to spiral. I can't speak to the durability of this slicer because, alas, I've only owned it for two months as of this writing. The extra blades snap into a holder in the middle of the slicer so you aren't likely to lose them nor are you likely to cut yourself on them inadvertantly. I do not like kitchen devices that make a job longer than it needs to be and that includes gadgets that take forever to clean or have sharp edges to wash and be careful of. it is not a child's toy however and so it requires the same respect you would give any other item with sharp blades. There is one minor quibble I have with the device and hope that the company reads this and deals with it in a future incarnation of the product... when the spirals come out it is a little bit difficult to manage where they will end up. It would be nice if they design a catch basin type thing for the strands as they fall from the blades. I used to put my zucchini noodles in a vegetable basket on the grill with some spiralized onions and coated with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic and they were a crowd pleaser every time. I served the noodles raw (using the smallest blade) and coated them with a homemade "guacamole" sauce. I just really don't understand the naysayers.... particularly the folks who complain about the wasted vegetable "core" Get creative and find something to do with it."
"I took this thing out, stuck it to the counter, attached the zucchini, and the plastic handle literally CRUMBLED off in my hands."

This is the only mandoline on the market with Mueller's patented dual knob fully adjustable mechanism. THE SMART CHOICE - While other mandolines struggle with quality and design (lack of adjustability) issues, our patented design and quality solves those problems and makes this the new standard in fruit/vegetable slicers - Tomato Knives.
Reviews
"I bought this product because I received a cookbook for Christmas in which the author recommended purchasing a mandoline slicer. I should mention at this point that I had a CHEAP mandoline slicer before (purchased through one of my children's school fundraiser). The holder is SAFE to use and grips the fruit or vegetable firmly while ensuring that very little is wasted."
"This is not an option on the Borner mandolins. - I have all the blades I would ever want without storing multiple sets. - The cost of this set is much less than the Swissmar Borner mandolins, but offers many more options. So far, I couldn't be happier with this mandolin, and would highly recommend it."
"We eat a lot of veggies, so a great mandolin slicer is invaluable to me. My old one was less than stellar, so I decided to upgrade to this Mueller Probably 5 and it has absolutely gone above & beyond my expectations!"
"I also made French fried potatoes for another side dish and this mandolin saved me so much time."
"The mandoline is well constructed out of high grade plastic and steel."
"This is a awesome mandolin slicer and especially for the price you really do get a quality mandolin."

Best Peelers

Johnny Apple Peeler by VICTORIO VKP1010, Cast Iron, Suction Base
Style Name: Suction Base. STAINLESS STEEL BLADES: Performance of the sharp cutting edges of the high quality stainless steel blades is warranted for 5 full years.
Reviews
"Not only does it save tons of time, but it's MUCH safer than using a paring knife to peel apples or potatoes."
"Here is what I liked best: -Solid construction, nicely machined, and well-finished. -Suction base sticks fiercely to my granite counter and doesn't come loose; if you have a smooth, non-porous surface to mount it on, this is so much better than the ones that clamp to the underside of the counter with a screw (and invariably wobble). -Very clearly written instruction book (not some bad translation into English from another language). -Reasonable price (I know there is another one on this site that looks about the same, and costs a few bucks less, but I thought this one had better overall reviews). -Works with a wide variety of apple sizes, even ones that are pretty large; also adapts well to lopsided apples without messing up. -The hoop that does the coring does a really good job of keeping the apple centered, despite the shape of the apple. You just need to do your best to align the apple when mounting it on the tines, but the peeler is pretty forgiving even if the apple has a fair amount of wobble. -Once it starts cutting it doesn't miss any part of the peel on the bulk of the apple; it leaves only about 1/8" at the top and bottom where the apple is "flat"...and I just eat that. -The spiral cut slices are a great thickness for dehydrating, for freezing, and for making pies. I was concerned that the loop-shaped blade would "waste" more apple flesh than a straight blade, but the waste is trivial."
"I only know about this gadget because my grandma got a much older version of one at an estate sale and gave it to me, and I recently upgraded to this new one. Even better: I have little kitchen storage space, and the suction cup allows me to store it ON THE BOTTOM OF MY CABINET! I eat all my apples now after sending them through this thing, because it minimizes waste by cutting close to the core!"
"I had a VERY old peeler (of unknown manufacture) that finally gave up the ghost, and this unit addressed all of the concerns I had encountered with that peeler."
"I have already peeled 6 lbs of apples and made a great batch of applesauce."

"Soft vegetables, zucchini, etc., work fine in smaller sizes, but small hard vegetables, carrots, etc., maybe 1.25" diameter, don't work very well. For zucchini, yellow summer squash, etc., small or large both work. Vegetables used as spaghetti substitute don't taste exactly like pasta; instead the flavor comes from the sauce and the vegetable, but somehow a zucchini made into spaghetti strands doesn't taste like zucchini, it tastes much better."
"Dimensions of the product can be seen in the photos. Included in this set: *Spiralizer Body. *Spaghetti blade. *Fettuccine blade. *Wide thin spiral slice blade. Pros: *Easy to use. *Easy to clean. *Designed to keep things sanitary. Cons: *None. Additional Considerations: Some quality kitchen shears are nice when using this product. Overall: 5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, 5 stars. If you have any further questions regarding the product in my review please leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible."
"I'm one of those weirdos that does an unnecessary amount of research, reads review after review, watches videos, and looks through the fine print on where a product is made and what the warranty covers - just to make sure I'm getting the best product for the best price."
"I read reviews for them all and even watched some videos on You Tube so that I could see them in action. I have read reviews that people don't like the "waste" that the spiralizer leaves in the middle. Well in my opinion, it's not waste unless you throw it away. The process is the same, but you must be sure to get the veggie centered and you must be patient and go a bit slower with these."
