Fantasy & Science Fiction (print edition) Print Magazine
One of the longest-running and most highly regarded magazines in the field, F&SF is the original publisher of Stephen King's Gunslinger stories, Daniel Keyes' "Flowers for Algernon," and many other classics.
Reviews
"They publish what I consider to be the best short works in the genre - there is always at least one story that sticks with me for a period of time (often years), and the articles are helpful and informative... or just thought-provoking."
"Fantasy & Science Fiction is still putting out a great collections of short stories in every issue."
"Thought provoking stories."
"On newsstands and on Kindle, there are 3 major magazines devoted to short works (from short stories to novellas) in science fiction: "Analog Science Fiction and Fact", "Asimov's" and "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" (F&SF; here I mean the Extended version on Kindle - the free edition just contains the non-fiction parts of the magazine and is more or less a teaser for the Extended version). Analog and Asimov's (both published by Dell Magazines) tend to publish science fiction that involves spaceships, aliens, robots and the like. F&SF prints stories that are more literary, sort of like a normal short story with an element of science fiction / fantasy (sometimes described as "New Wave" science fiction to distinguish it from the subject matter of the "pulps" from the mid 20th century). Actually, I like "spaceship" science fiction, but I subscribe to F&SF and only purchase Asimov's if that month's issue sounds promising. Analog has a reputation of having the most science-based SF stories, even including a "Brass Tacks" section where readers can discuss what they think are factual errors that appeared in the stories (or in the one-per-issue science fact article)."
"Knowing that this beauty is on the way every other month makes me feel like I'm 13 years old all over again - lost in imagination and eagerly awaiting the next issue!"
"Hands down the best of the bunch."
"I dislike that when the new issue downloads it removes the previous, and after going through the Manage My Kindle instructions, find that I have to redeliver the previous issues manually in order to finish them off."
"I have to agree with other reviews."
