The reeds in the harmonium are tuned to sound well together, but not necessarily with other instruments. As such, they are not in concert pitch and not meant to be played like a Western table-top organ. Shellac is very impressionable (no pun intended) and during the instrument's long transportation from India, the shellac finish becomes marred by the packing materials and may cause the sides of harmoniums to have impressions. "Packing - these guys must ship a lot of harmoniums because it was VERY well packed with great attention to detail with a combination of cardboard, foam, and bubble wrap in all the right places to protect this delicate equipment, arrived without a scratch on it, no bent knobs, everything was perfect. Buyraggini sells almost every other brand of harmonium on their website. Build Quality - for a first harmonium, I did not want to spend a lot of money, this was an excellent value that the build quality in most cases exceeded my expectations. Then again this was not an $500+ harmonium either. C. Sound - harmonium is VERY responsive with no noticeable lag time (time between when a key is pressed and sound is produced). The stops control airflow into each bank of reeds, pulling the first stop lets air into the left side of the higher pitched reeds, pulling the second stop (3rd knob) lets air into the left side of the lower pitched reeds. If you are playing mostly on the left side of the keyboard and want a full sound, I would definitely recommend pulling the 1st and 2nd stops (1st and 3rd knobs) and maybe 3rd/4th (5th and 7th knobs) if playing a little higher. Personally I was afraid of the "folding harmoniums" with all the hinges and seams developing a leak and also not having the air capacity/sustain of a fixed harmonium. Playing a 3 note chord with coupler on is like playing 6 notes at a time and uses a lot of air, fast. Additionally the coupler plays the higher octave coupled note not quite as loud as if you press both keys at the same time."
