"We used four-foot sections of rebar, drove them into the ground until there was 29 ½” exposed above ground level. The reason why we used 29 ½” is so that several inches of the pole would be in the ground preventing it from rotating around the rebar (we live in SW-Oklahoma where there are strong winds). Since the interior of the pole is larger than the ½ “rebar, we used four turns of duct tape on the top and bottom of the rebar to prevent excessive movement and wear on the metal pole. To drive the pole into the ground we used a piece of 2x4 wood to buffer the impact, preventing damage to the metal pole (it helps if you moisten the ground first)."
