"I'm going to use "Dragon home 13" to write this review, and I'm going to leave any errors in, just so you can see how accurate it is at first go. Then, somehow, the program click something that submitted my review after the above paragraph, and I've had to wait 24 hours in order to pick this up again and corrected. My mother, who was an executive secretary back in the day, taught me how to tie (should have been "type") when I was in my T's. So, for a program like Dragon to be useful to me, I have to be able to dictate and not have all these issues with the wrong thing written down, and then a really difficult time correcting it. Pros and cons: on the pro side, Dragon does an amazing job of figuring out most of the things I'm saying! In fact, I have to type "correct it" because if I say it, Dragon interprets that as a command to find a mistake and fix it. But if you're living depends on getting things right in your written words, Dragon-created mistakes are an issue. The problem with mistakes and how to correct them in Dragon is why I gave up my old version of the program. After a while, I found it was just easier for me to type and avoid most of the errors that Dragon makes. That said, Dragon does improve as it goes, they say, and it can learn from your other written material, including documents and email. However, I knock that down to a three because of the issue of mistakes and the time and trouble it takes to correct them. In addition, I fully believe in the Company's mission, and I expect (and hope) that subsequent versions will improve "listening" ability, and grammatical and spelling errors, some of which must be based on the product's ability to spell certain things based on context of a word in the sentence being dictated. Bottom line, it's faster for me to write and edit the "old way" than it is to correct Dragon's mistakes. And then, the one review posted on the upgrade gave it 2 stars, claiming the installation wiped out all their voice records."
"On the whole, I would say that I was happy with 12.0's ability to transcribe what I was saying, but I really didn't like how often I needed to work in a separate window to accomplish what I wanted (I do a lot of work within web forms and apps, and it did better in its own Dragon transcription window than in the browser directly). I'm pointing that out because that has improved a lot, and this is the biggest improvement I personally see in Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13. That said, I have a relatively neutral U.S. English accent (by this I mean I speak a lot like news anchors and such), so I don't think I'm the most challenging person when it comes to doing voice recognition anyway. I'd also like to point out that, for me personally, writing through Dragon is SLOWER than typing. For someone who doesn't type very quickly or comfortably, the software will make you faster. For me personally, I have to use computers for so many things that having voice-recognition software that I can use is also an emergency backup plan. Anyway, the software genuinely works pretty well, so long as you're willing to go through an adjustment period where you work out how to speak your papers and letters and whatever instead of typing them. I don't actually know of any particularly viable competitors to Nuance in this field, so if you want voice recognition software this is pretty much what you're stuck with (though you might be able to get a copy of a previous version very very cheaply if you prefer to go that route rather than getting version 13)."

"In fact for me it was no problem because I just had the main problem-solving guy from our company's IT department install it for me. Despite the installation complexity, I gave it five stars because for the eight months I've been using it, it's just great. So, I have a tip: With each new version of voice recognition software that I use, I have found that over time, The voice files get so huge and complex that they begin to degrade and then the software makes more and more mistakes and becomes becomes less and less useful."
"My VXi TalkPro UC2 microphone is working very well with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, much better than it was with Windows speech recognition. If you try to dictate into some web forms, such as Amazon's search field, the Internet Explorer Full Text Control browser add-on does crash Dragon NaturallySpeaking (according to the DNS and Windows event logs), and corrupt all right-click context menus in Windows 7; a reboot is required to clear up the problem. Overall, for me, the product is better than Windows speech recognition, and I can continue to work around the browser add-on crashing, missing Microsoft OneNote integration, and lack of custom formatting commands as quality recognition is my number one need."
"I know some of you may be considering the downloaded version but I highly recommend just picking up the physical shipment. If you're using a system it's only a couple of years old, you probably won't have any trouble running the software either. I am also using a MikTek Pro Cast SST microphone for Dragon to pick up. It's a fairly good tutorial, nevertheless I do recommend following some YouTube videos if you need additional information. It was entirely conducted with Dragon naturally speaking, except were a couple of corrections were necessary and I found that it was easiest to make them manually. Overall I'm very pleased with the accuracy – – I happen to have a Midwestern accent which is a little bit drier and may be more accurate for the software itself."

"Before purchasing Dragon Naturally Speaking Home 12, I attempted to use the speech recognition program included in Windows 7. In Microsoft Word 2010, you can do almost any operation with the sound of your voice: you can move the mouse, access tabs, and perform any editing functions from your top toolbars. Every time I attempted to dictate the only thing that Dragon would print across my screen were the words "him him him him him him him..." Also, I was getting a terrible feedback from the microphone. The person on the other end of the phone was polite, patient, and took the time to walk me through a number of commands to attempt to fix the problem. After we had exhausted all efforts to adjust the settings, with no solution being found, the technician advised me to try a USB headset instead of a line in microphone. I think it's important to mention, for any of you considering buying Dragon Naturally Speaking Home 12, that I've used this software to write this review."

"There are enough reviews out there on Dragon that I won't bore with what has already been said, however, the only thing that is frustrating about the program is its "living in too many worlds at once". For instance, it will open programs for you (such as Word, IE, Google Chrome, Excel, etc) by saying "open" , followed by "Word". What I found happening is if I am dictating something that has the word "open" within the body of copy and if I hesitate at all after the word "open" then the program pops up a dialogue box asking what I want to open. In my frustration on occasion, I would spout off and say "you freakin piece of ****" And it would try to type that, which brought a chuckle and then I would say "quit mocking me" and of course it would, by typing that. I also had problems with the Dragon headset microphone rig and got messages "microphone undetected", when plugged into my computer since the sound card and the headset were not seeing each other. For those of you out there who might become frustrated with the program and wish that it performed up to expectations, and might not get the satisfaction from their technical phone support.....be aware of an extremely helpful web resource which is a forum for users, which may provide solutions to problems that tech support does not provide."

"The next thing you notice is that having to install and run Microsoft SQL is a resource hog and probably gross overkill for most users. Once I got an iPhone and wanted to use all the nifty apps that let you do automatic updating with Outlook, it became painfully obvious that I could never have any integration since nothing syncs with the SQL files. So, I eventually had to import the BCM database into regular Outlook format (losing a lot of info along the way) so that I had something standard that nearly every other program can sync to."

"Addendum: 2/20/2006: Since my original review I was amazed to find a large community hospital who uses this program to send faxes to all ~1000 doctors on staff. They use XP professional as the OS but the key point was to DELETE all faxes from WINFAX SEND LOG FOLDER after they are sent. I now use paperport 7.0 and winfax daily in my laptop and you can connect any scanner and printer. The beauty of this arrangement is that I take all my files with me in my laptop and can add items or do other work at home using another printer/scanner. Another useful feature of winfax is it can support 2 modems, one for incoming and one for outgoing faxes. The brother system below can not support 2 modems, but this is not an important point for most small offices. I then have to manually "drag and drop" the faxes into an appropriate folder (or create one) where it is stored on the computer. I have had some minor problems with the brother MFC but am so impressed with the simplicity of this filing system that I bought their flagship monochromatic laser MFC 8440DN [comes with paperport 9 deluxe NOT professional] and am ready to start using it. I'm rating it 5 stars now as it has been a great performer over the long run even though it took a year to get it working properly. Ironically, even though I don't delete the faxes as describe above it continues to function without a glitch. I'm using Brother MFC 8890DW now but was surprised to note that my 8 year HP PSC 2210xi AIO scans more clearly."

"While I was able to eventually get it installed and running, it slowed my computer's reboot time to a crawl and trashed my scanner software. Third, after you install WinFax Pro your computer may take forever to reboot. I had to run Symantec's SystemWorks software to find/fix Windows problems and reinstall the scanner drivers a few times before it worked, but eventually I got the scanner working again. As far as I can tell, after fixing the above-mentioned problems, WinFax Pro 10.03 does seem to work okay. As many others have stated before me, this is very buggy software that causes many problems with Windows XP and will be horribly frustrating for anyone trying to install and use this software on an XP system."

"If you have to access dozens of different dial up modems or telnet sessions, the strength of this software is it's directory structure. Point and click to access any one of them. I am not aware of any other program out there which can hold a large directory of IP addresses for telnet administration purposes on a large IP network with clear text labels for each one. It is a tremendous time saver, and I truly do not know how the younger "cisco" kids are all doing it without this great tool. I can type in over 100 IP address one time, and from there it's point and click, login scripts, etc., while the cisco kids are still typing to get access, and looking up IP addresses, I'm already done with the changes!"

Although I found that downloading and installing this package was a bit of a hassle, it does work okay once installed and will open any documents created by previous versions of Microsoft Office programs."

"Upon installing 2010 I was presented with two buttons: "Upgrade" and "Customize". The install then proceeded to remove Outlook, Publisher and Access. Since the program I was installing did not include these products I think it's pretty bogus for the install process to remove them."
"I am someone who uses Word, Excel and PowerPoint on a very regular basis, who really liked some of the changes in Office 2007 but who thought some things needed tweaking, so when given the opportunity for the beta edition I jumped on it and have not been disappointed. Office 2010 is to Office 2007 what Windows 7 was to Vista; that is, there are not many breakthrough, drastically different features, but a whole lot of polishing and cleanup to make it easier and more efficient. Overall, the program seems to run faster, incorporates many of the most commonly used options and makes them more accessible (eliminating many dialog boxes and tabs) and allows for more customization. It may not be a true direct competitor to google docs, but it allows for easier sharing of documents, as well as making your documents more accessible. 2) The ribbon is back and it now includes the "File" option and a new feature called "Backstage view." You get the usual open, save and print, but you also get several templates for new documents, print layouts and ways to share your work, all without dialog boxes and tabs, everything is much more easily accessible. If you are a heavy user of Acrobat (I'm a more occasional user - a few times a week on average) you might want to look up and memorize the keyboard shortcuts."

After using 2017 Pro and Standard, I'm not sure there are must have features if you're coming from DC. A lot of people didn't like how Acrobat DC changed up the menus. If you take a little time to find out where the stuff is, DC and now 2017 make sense. If you're coming from pre-DC Acrobat, a lot of things are better. Editing a pdf and keeping the flow from paragraph to paragraph is leagues better than pre DC and 2017 is an improvement over DC. If you have a lot of PDF files, it's hard to tell which one was the latest--I've almost gone blind trying to figure out if there is any difference between two PDF files!"
