"I have enjoyed the independence from what is now known as "the cloud" and continue my attempts in avoiding the transfer of my information over to companies such as Intuit who don't hesitate to feel like they need to bombard me with "targeted" marketing ads based on what they now know about my companies and their obligation to find ways to make more money off of their customers. "I have used premier in the past because I originally thought I needed it for my investments but discovered over the last few years that I could do just fine with Deluxe. For the last several years, my taxes have included investments/mutual funds, which the deluxe version handles perfectly fine, especially if you can automatically interface with your bank or investment company online. Since approximately the 2013 version TT deluxe has the ability to download and import your investment information directly into the program. Intuit tries to make it seem like you really need to upgrade for stocks and investments and in reality, for most cases, it isn’t necessary. There may be some particular reasons to get the premier or home/business version as everyone’s situation is different, but I have found for most standard investment stuff, deluxe is just fine. As with previous years, I am concerned that Intuit is still issuing program updates after the April tax deadline. Intuit doesn’t seem to be notifying customer of the updating issue either as I just happen to find the patch when I was looking for the history log of the 2017 version. If you have investments/mutual funds, it is a good idea to wait a few weeks into the new year as well because, depending on what company you have those investments/mutual funds with, 1099-DIV information tends to get updated with adjusted totals around late February or March which can drastically alter your tax totals. I still have my complaint about the additional cost of e-filing with the state (currently 20 dollars) which in my opinion should be free with purchase. Even though I have my complaints about Intuit, I like the way the software walks you through the different things to help you finish the taxes pretty accurately."

I bit the bullet; OK, I was two revs back, and I wanted to upgrade the registers to Windows 10, so I guess that's fair - so I ordered two copies of 12.0 through Amazon. Didn't see much in the way of new features in 12.0 over 10.0 that affected the way I use the software, but at least it didn't seem to damage anything that was already working, and the interface was still familiar enough that I didn't have to re-train my sales associates. At one point, while talking to an IMS tech, he said that there were still a couple of things that they had to straighten out at their end before EMV and chipcards would work - one would be a free update to POS 12.0, and the other MIGHT involve a firmware upgrade to the IPP350 pin pads. I was told that even though I had bought TWO more expensive pin pads originally, and then swapped them to IMS for TWO IPP350's, they were only going to send me ONE new pin-pad that would actually work with the software. I am now waiting for a call back from a supervisor to explain to me why I am only going to get ONE pin pad, when I bought TWO originally; and in the meantime, I've started researching other merchant service providers, hoping to find a reputable one that doesn't bait-and-switch."

"I run Windows 7, arguably the most stable OS MS ever produced, and a Dell Latitude i5 laptop that is rock solid. They try to get you to "Link" accounts online but it doesn't work and if tried you will find that it takes minutes to update. I'm trying to use the Manual bill pay method that they put back in as an afterthought. If it runs into an error on downloading account info, you cannot fix it without crashing the program. Manually accessing the same account web site shows no issues with logging in. It is a shame that Quicken is the only program out there that allows money management to the degree it was designed to. So we are stuck with a buggy program that hasn't improved even though Quicken separated from Intuit. If I could find a program, in the cloud or desktop that does bill pay, interfaces with my online bank, brokerage and credit card accounts and reliably reports on all, I would change in a heartbeat. FYI the only reason I bought this "subscription" is because I was using Q2015 and Quicken stops supporting their programs after three years. Other reviewers that have granted 4 and 5 stars to this program must be Quicken employees or simply don't use it or rely on it heavily like I do. I haven't tried the rental property module yet but plan on doing so before tax filing time. I was bound to Bank of America, a company I have an attitude about, because they had Direct Connect to Quicken. With Mint you can connect and draw on any checking account at any bank to pay any bill. If Q2018 decides that it can't connect to a previously working account, there is NO WAY to fix it. So I linked it to my dead credit card account and sure enough, Q2018 duplicated 1226 transactions. Now when I download account info, it puts in {[] square brackets in the category field. Even bills paid through Quicken 2018 with proper catefories assigned, are changed when updated by a bank download."
"I remain hopeful that with this new subscription model they will bring in the income they need in order to, with hopefully strong and well-directed oversight, bring this program up to it's potential. Oftentimes their support page will estimate the wait time for chat support at say 20 minutes, but I've waited for over an hour before giving up. *Phone Support - "Premium phone support" is a total joke - again, estimated wait time showing on their website before calling was 35 minutes but I waited for 65 minutes before speaking with someone. I spent a lot of time selecting the categories I want to budget in 2017, assigned budgeted values to them and was happy with it in the desktop application. If you haven't tabbed into that year yet, Quicken will ask if you want to copy over your 2017 categories and/or values into 2018. I have confirmed with support (after an hour on hold and another 30 minutes trying to explain my issue) that they did not think to make the option to copy over last years categories/budgeted values into the next year an option you can select at any time. My thought then was "ok, can I deleted the 2018 year in my budget and then re-create it as I did originally by clicking the arrow to tab into the next year?" Another feature they didn't think anyone would ever need or want - there is no way to delete a certain year in your budget. Quicken allows you to create a recurring income "reminder", basically, you can enter your paycheck exactly as you receive it (Gross income, various deductions, etc), select the account to which the net amount is deposited (or multiple accounts if you split it), and Quicken will appropirately debit all the right account on the schedule you set. A few minutes on google (because forget trying to deal with phone support, besides the fact they aren't available on the weekend) shows me that this was an issue with the 2017 version months ago, and that now others with the 2018 version are now experiencing the same issue. If not, my hope is that by that time someone comes up with something better."
