"First let's start by saying it took this software a while to install and even longer to load. If you've never used VideoStudio, it won't make a difference, but as someone who has, I think this is a big improvement. In VS9, you had to pay for many of the added sound and music clips, and the same rings true here. My favorite so far, for YouTube videos is City Night Groove - Midnight Cafe. Mind you as you're going through selecting the available video and sound files, it takes a minute for the profiles to load, something I don't remember happening in previous versions of VS. OMG, did I mention that updating the databases take forever? Some of these middle templates give you a little versatility and room for different effects. Although there aren't very many options off hand, there are 5, these templates will make any slideshow look nice with panning and zooming and other effects. My initial attempt with Boris left much to be desired, but now, I'm thinking I might take the time to figure out what all the hoopla is about. But I started using VS before my dive into the pond with Adobe and with VS 9, they stepped up their transition game. Not too impressed, although I like the fact that they added a few with lower thirds which can come in handy. I think I remember that there were speech bubbles, but this version has a wider variety. However, as I stated earlier, this make me want to get on YouTube or look at Corel's tutorials to see how to actually work BG. Here you've got your standard effects, along with BCC Title Studio, BG 7.0, and Mercalli 2.0. So each time I go on to make a video, the file is already there waiting for me and all I have to do is drag it to my timeline. I like the fact that Corel has kept the screen capture option, allowing users to do simple instructional videos. But even as I write this review and try to use the Screen Capture option, I constantly get a "fail" pop up. One of the BIGGEST problems I have with VS past version 6 is that it is a memory hog. When putting your project together, my computer (which is less than a year old and has 8gb RAM) will not let me see the preview at normal speed. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the rendering time for a video, of lets say 30 minutes takes way too long. Because Corel's target market is probably those who cannot or will not afford the expensive price tag of Adobe. This audience probably doesn't have the patience or the mind span to learn Adobe, that' what makes VS so valuable. Corel is in a perfect position to compete in some areas with Adobe, but they need to step up some parts of their software, which they have with this updated version."
"Oh and if you say no to that when u buy it, they ask you again a million times - when you install and again everytime you start it (with default box checked - just to make sure they can further you to having to uncheck it again) - because hey maybe u slip up and then they got you. 6) When you start any of those installed programs they suck up your hard disk space but are useless.. first they ask for serial numbers and you can buy it for ONLY USD 199 (sonicfire for example). 8) Then when you made it through all this - you notice that half the features in the program don't perform as advertised because you first have to buy them - so you thought you bought that PRO version which should have everything. 9) Then in the program the wonderful bait and then glorious switch continues... they list for FX effect.. some brand names, means nothing no idea what it does.. u get few simple things and then u need to buy the rest and real deal for effects. There's Triple Scoop Music - unfortunately it's all watermarked with every effect some lovely lady saying the brand.. then they have tons of Muserk Sound Effects great, except sorry same thing every single file is watermarked, some dude saying Muserk.. totally useless. So you payed a ton of money for ultimate version to fill up your hard drive with watermarked sound effects... great. - and then lucky you there's a very few that are not watermarked - but that stuff is - sorry - personal-use-only - so forget uploading to youtube and earning ad revenue.. if u end up making an amazing and wonderful video..with tons of clicks.. then you're screwwwedd again because it's just personal use only and all your work is lost - because you don't really have the license for those sound effects."

"The program provides a couple dozen menu themes, but there doesn't appear to be any way to create use a custom theme, and the provided themes seem to be based around a familiar chapter-style interface--more traditional menu navigation (ie, "Play Movie/Set-Up/Special Features") doesn't seem to be an option. Fortunately, the program seems to be able to handle just about anything you throw at it where content is concerned: I mixed MPEG files with raw DV footage, including a variety of resolutions ranging from 160 x 120 to 752 x 480, and the program just workhorsed its way through the job at the click of a button. Addenda: I discovered the drag-to-modify nature of the track markers which allows the user to easily move or delete existing tracks simply by tugging on their flags. I also discovered an unfortunate glitch where the track markers are concerned: it seems that sometimes a tiny, split-second piece of your track will inadvertently get attached to the track marker, resulting in a short burp of sound right before the actual track begins. This would be bad enough to be a show-stopper, except that it's easily corrected: if you have a burping track marker, delete it and create a brand new track marker (with no associated burp) in exactly the same spot."
