They need to put more padding on the leg accessory shin pads because its not enough when lifting 180 lbs for leg extension (I've strapped $20 knee pads onto their pads which fixed the problem). Their leg strap is just a single loop with Velcro which is underwhelming, not nearly as nice as the one that came with my former G7 which is a full strap around the ankle (no Velcro) as well as a supporting strap under the foot so the strap doesn't move up your leg when doing leg curls (I ordered the strap from Life Fitness, which connects to the FT2). You can do leg presses (up to 420 lbs) by laying on the floor under the stationary bar and pushing it up with your feet, which they don't show in any of their materials. 3. I developed back pain when doing leg curls using their stationary leg attachment (not the leg strap mentioned above), which I think is because the leg attachment sits higher than your back (when laying face down on the bench) which causes your back to hyperextend in the wrong direction)."

It can be used as a Smith machine or a very safe Olympic weight cage. Has a nice storage sleeve for my Olympic curl bar. CONS: 1. You will receive a leg developer attachment that is standard, not Olympic. The metal slam on ends for the leg developer and bench attachment are garbage and some broke on installation. I ordered 1" ID allen collars to replace them....really nice now. That whole mess gets in the way when you're trying to sit on the bench (even with the leg developer removed) when you're carrying heavy dumbbells to use on it. You receive garbage spring collars for the Olympic bar. The rubber Body Solid Olympic plates stink to holy hell. I left them out in the sun for weeks, washed them and they still stink."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I'm very much into wellness, an outdoor enthusiast, and enjoy a variety of spots with my family (biking, hiking, skiing, etc) but have little interest in home exercise equipment, body building, etc. I saw a pallet stacked about 5 feet high with all sorts of metal pieces, some mangled pretty bad. This model is pretty light (maybe it's 54 pounds like the box says, but it seems lighter to me), and will fold up and store in the closet or under most beds. I even discovered that my local Goodwill Thrift Store refuses to sell any exercise equipment, so they give them away free on the curb whenever one is donated. I would recommend the more expensive units if you are a body builder and want to add a greater variety of exercises (the leg builder & squat tools are nice on the XLS), if you are over 250 or 300 pounds (check the weight limit on the box), if you need a wider or more padded back board (i.e., if you are in physical therapy), or if you like all the fancy gadgets. However, if you're undecided about what type of machine to get, I suggest the less expensive 1100 ... and if you use it every day and eventually need more, sell it and get the larger unit. In my experience, the price point for a new or like-new 1100 (on Amazon, auction sites, local ads, etc) should be between $150-200 delivered."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I would highly recommend leaving these weights outside (and/or washing them) to let them air out and control the smell, but it is not immediately overpowering. When the package arrived I slowly opened the box waiting for a toxic stench to explode out, but it never came. It was not until I lifted a plate out of the box that I noticed the smell people mentioned (the chemical applied to prevent rust), and it was not very strong. The sliders to keep the box closed seem pretty lame, but I'm one of those people who isn't going to sweat it if the case breaks. TLDR: Does NOT smell that bad (easily fixed), decent quality, best bang for the buck for somebody looking for starter dumbbells. UPDATE 1/25/14: I now have two sets of these (it was cheaper than buying weight individually), and they are holding up great after over a year and a half of use. The metals isn't forgiving on your hands, so if you don't want big calluses, invest in a cheap pair of gloves."
