It's better said that you WILL need plumber's putty, and if you have a stainless steel sink, you have the option to use the thin rubber gasket (I'd use plumber's putty)."
"Update: As an aside, I also learned from my research that the best way to clean my disposal is to use citric acid. Having previously had no idea what citric acid was used for, I decided to order some from Amazon, going with the brand my sister uses: Citric Acid Powder - Ultra Fine Pure Powdered Crystals - Natural Preservative Food Grade Quality (16 oz) and gave it a whirl after 3 months of using my disposal. I let the citric acid sit with some water in the disposal for about ten minutes, and then I let it run for a solid 2 minutes."

Because you can easily rotate the disposer after it is installed and the tighter tubing design, my new Evolution Excel fit beautifully into the existing plumbing geometry. Another really great design element of this disposer over the Badger 1 is the rubber baffle is easily removable for cleaning the underside and eventual replacement. It comes with a heavy, double ended allen wrench, a 90 degree and also a long straight discharge tube and a nice polished fixed stopper with rubber gasket."

"My Badger 5 had a "feature" where if you overloaded the grind chamber ever so slightly, it would explode the trap under the sink and spew water and foodstuffs all over the interior of the cabinets. While I haven't stuffed it with potato peels or shrimp shells, I cannot wait for the opportunity to push this to its limits. Slow drain - The Quiet Collar Sink Baffle is the key to the quiet operation - While the Badger's sink baffle was open and allowed food/water to drain easily, the Evolution Compact is much slower/tighter. When you operate the Badger or Evolution Compact dry, they sound nearly identical. When I installed the Badger 5, I took about a half an hour to square up the sink flange and make it perfectly straight. Upon installing the Evolution Compact I overtightened it ever so slightly and moved the flange about 5 degrees. Lemons, brussels sprouts, garlic peels, sausage casings - All of them will sit in the chamber indefinitely, no matter how long you run the unit."
