EcoSmart ECO 11 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 13KW at 240 Volts with Patented Self Modulating Technology
This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with (1) 60 amp double pole breaker connected to (1) set of #6 awg wire. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67 Degree F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. Never run out of hot water with an ECOSMART tankless water heater.

"I have two of these units, one for DHW (Domestic Hot Water) and the other to operate our whole house hot water baseboard system. We have ours connected to our main 150 service, and can get away with it because everything else in the house is "green" and we can operate everything else with the 37.5 amps available if the heater is running under full load. The heat exchangers inside the heater are 3 copper pipes, cross connected in series with about 1/2" dia. However, they will not tell you how to get 160 or 180 degree water. There are internal jumpers in the heater that allow you to limit the maximum output temperature to 105 degrees (handy for the elderly or where there are small children playing with the knob), and it is also possible to set a wattage limit across the 3 heating elements. Most hot water heating systems operate best in the 160 degree area, and the older oil fired boilers actually used a setpoint of 200 degrees. Clearly, a heater with an upper limit of 140 degrees could cause poor performance of most baseboard hot water systems, and many of the newer hydronic systems. At 3 GPM this unit can give you a 110 degree shower with incoming water of only 49 degrees. At 2 GPM this unit will provide the full 140 degree setpoint with 50 degree incoming water. In boiler service, obtaining 160 degree water will require incoming water of at least 114 degrees. Most hot water heating systems operate with a differential of less than 20 degrees, so this unit is just loafing along while providing 160 degree water to your baseboard units. Also, most standard hot water heating systems have a design of either 1 GPM or 4 GPM. Again, most hot water systems operate with a differential (or "Delta-T") of around 17 degrees, often less. In any other situation, two showers at once, someone in the shower, someone else doing laundry, etc., I have yet to hear a single complaint. The days of my wife complaining about no hot water for the dishes because I took a long shower have ended! The only way I've ever been able to tell if the unit is running is to actually look at it - The display is only lighted when the unit is operating. Hope this helps to quash some bad information and get accurate information posted."
"Upon receiving the units and reading the enclosed warranty, it was apparent that there were strict requirements to qualify the units for the warranty; warranty cards had to be returned within 30 days, and the installation had to be by both a licensed plumber and a licensed electrician, whose names, phone numbers, and license numbers had to be noted on the warranty cards. I returned the 3 warranty cards within 90 days, once the units were installed, and retained the customer half of each card, as was required. So when one of the units failed recently, I contacted customer service, and during 3 emails and 3 phone calls over 1 week was told that Ecosmart only sends out repair parts for these units, not replacement units. With the life of these units being about 3 years, and since the units have unique, non-industry-standard electrical and plumbing connections, which makes quick replacement labor-intensive and/or impossible, you should buy a spare of these to keep on hand when one fails. Incidentally, the new unit has the same internal copper tubing design flaw as the old one, and still has an incoming wire clamp connector that wont meet electrical codes because electrical conduit, not unsheathed #8 wires, is required for the installation; the cable entrance hole in the panel is not large enough to accommodate a conduit connection for those wires."

"For example, a tankless unit basically requires running water which is heated as it passes through the unit. On the other hand, a small tank unit saves water by allowing instant access to hot water rather than having to run the water for a couple of minutes until it heats up. Buy a small tank unit if you want to reduce the total amount of water being used...this will preheat the water so hot water comes out instantly when the faucet is turned on...no waiting while the hot water runs across the house. When installing inline via the hot water, the water was hot almost instantly rather than the roughly 1-2 minutes it normally takes to travel to that bathroom...it was hot enough to be uncomfortable and then gave way to running hot water from the regular hot water heater which remained at full temperature. Bottom line - this reduces or eliminates the lag time while waiting for water to heat up/transfer in a distant faucet but does NOT supply a continual/endless supply of water like a tankless unit."
"Instant hot water to the kitchen sink which is over 40 feet from the main hot water tank."
"I started it on the ideal setting and the water was warm enough to wash hands but not hot enough to shave."
"On the top of the unit is a hot water outlet threaded female coupler pipe connection as well as a cold water, or hot water inlet of the same type of connection. Hooked up to the hot inlet would be immediately drawing water from your main hot water heater with the advantage being you get instant hot water to the faucet it is hooked to. However even to just wash your hands the hot water is leaving your main tank, and running through your water lines having to heat them up, and then if it is only for a short hand wash, you are then committing yourself to wasting energy every time you use it. On the other hand if you hook it up to the cold water line you will not be drawing heated water from your main water heater thereby not wasting that energy every time you turn on the faucet. Someone could make a valid argument that set up to the cold infeed you are limited to how much hot water reserve you have in this Bosch tank. Therefore if you do want to hook it up that way I suggest you get the 7 gallon tank which will give you more hot water than you would probably ever need coming out of a sink. Okay so we all know about the instant hot water heater that is tank less and is an alternative and pretty popular. Horizontal installations requires the pressure relief valve on the top, and water connections on the right side. As I mentioned you can hook the inlet up to your cold water feed so as to not disturb you main water heater, or hook it up to the hot water line coming from the main heater to have a much more endless stream of hot water. The main water heater is at the opposite end of the house, and the new Moen faucet is designed to conserve water to it so it seems like forever for it to get warm."
"But with that said, we love having hot or warm water immediately available at our master bath sink."

"I Googled it again and found out I needed what is called the pilot assembly. You are working on a gas hot water heater so if your not comfortable with your reading directions ability and handyman skills you might want to call a plumber but you will probably pay $200.00 or more if he is honest."
"Thank you Youtube and Amazon!!"
"I had a plumber come give a free estimate and he claimed I needed to replace the whole thing, quoting 950 for a new one. I rate the difficulty of installing as a 2/5 if you have never messed with things like this before."
"when it finally stopped working I found that the pilot was but a mere gasp, not enough to power the thermocouple."
"When my State water heater went out I ordered a replacement thermocouple assembly from local wholesaler based on unit model & serial numbers."
"After install which took a while for me, im a honeydo'er it fired up just fine with no leaks (not a product problem anyway) I would order again and it was cheaper then other advertised sites and arrived quicker."
"I bought the 12 dollar universal thermocouple from the hardware store first, and found my ignorance was in the TCO type that my water heater took, plus the size of the universal thermocouple head being too big to fit through the door..."
"I called the manufacturer and they gave me the item number for my model which is the same as this reliance Water Heater. I vaccumed with an attachement for narrow places, they also suggested using a flexible cleaning brush (like the kind for a baby bottle)."

Reviews
"I finally had to replace one (the older design) because it repeatedly started having issues. First it started running, which was easily fixed with a cap flushing, but then water stopped flowing to the fill tube. The clog was down in the fill valve below the cap and did not stay fixed with a flushing, so I just decided to replace it. It is open ended just with hooks). My one toilet has a flapper with the timing cup on top of it and it's own drain seat insert that it's attached to (555CRP8, also made by Fluidmaster, 555C is the newest version) because the fill tube is too far from the drain and a standard offset on the flapper, as this has, wouldn't center and seal properly. The other toilet still has a firm gray one with a notched plastic "chain" that I installed separately years ago too."
"I had no idea this would be so easy, or would have tried it ages ago, instead of continuing to replace parts on those old ball-type floats that wear out so fast!"
"There was a defect in the plastic molding process leaving one of the clips only partially formed."
"Not as universal as you might think, but with minor mods to the flapper, I was able to make this work."
"Following the instructions, I was able to remove the old flapper (which was rock solid) and valve and replace it with the Fluidmaster in 30 minutes."
"This certainly beats calling an overpriced plumber."
"My toilet is about 15 years old and the red rubber part is loose. I bought this set to replace everything but mostly the red rubber part."
"I guess I will go to a big box store and purchase another one to fix the leaking fill valve."

"Also hides the brush so it is not unsightly."
"The clamshells close every time and I've never had an issue with gunk in the bottom because we don't clean and just put it back in the shell dripping with toilet water and cleaner."

Reviews
"The small knob is surprisingly easy to turn to adjust water volume."
"I would guess the many reviewers said it doesn't restrict flow already have low flow heads that don't flow more than this valve so they don't see a decrease in pressure. This valve did exactly what I wanted and let me cut my pressure back to reasonable levels for far less money than a new low flow shower head or the ridiculous task of replacing the main shower valve so that I could turn my water down."
"We tried this valve in a shower as a way to leave the water running slightly rather than it being completely shut off."
"The "trickle flow" valves are designed to prevent these surges, but even a trickle flow can fill up a gray water tank quickly!"
"Only issue I have with it is the rubber washer is kind of soft, so when I screwed on the showerhead the washer kept getting pushed into the pipe from the wall causing water to leak out."
"This worked out great for us....saved me having to pay a plumber to come and tear a hole in the wall to fix a leaky shower valve."
"The connection to the shower head was flawless with a little plumber's tape, and the resulting combination connected to the shower arm with only a small turn with a wrench after hand tightening."
"They sell "Flow restrictors" that are essentially the same thing just don't go fully OFF - thus cant be used to fix a simple drip - nope they don't want you to spend 10$ to fix a silly little issues simply and easily - they want you to solve "The real root of the issue" you know - tearing apart walls, turning off all your water to swap a core of your faucet etc."
