Find Best Price at Amazon"On the 2001 Suburban [with a 5.3 liter V8], the threads on the oil drain required adding an extra gasket so the Qwik Valve would be oriented with it's release tab away from the ground. [see pics for right and wrong orientations; pix are from a '95 Saab 9000 Aero] If you prefer a longer, brass adapter for the Suburban, there is one available: Fumoto Valve Adapter ADP-107 (12mm-1.75) The Quik Valve folks are aware of potential issues with low ground clearance, especially if you're off-roading or four wheeling, so they do sell a clip that provides an extra measure of 'lock' on the tab to keep it from pivoting open if you snag a branch, etc. You simply reach the small locking tab, pivot it up slightly, then rotate it toward the drain port [approx 90 degrees] and the oil will flow. This is not a factor with the QuikValve fitting: when you rotate the tab, the brass and stainless steel sleeve pivots [looks like it's inside a nylon bushing] to open a good sized hole, approx 5/16"."

I know a guy who was trying to do it on ramps and dropped the car on himself with nobody there and ended up waiting for 2 hours until I showed up... he is a particularly big and tough MF so he survived it with one cracked rib which was amazing. If you aren't sure you can do it, buy the kit and pay a local foreign car specialist to do it... most will do it for $300-400... and not just some guy who does it on the side because if he screws it up, a new engine will be at least 3000 done right and he won't help you out.... get a shop that stands behind their work for the extra $100.... you are still out a couple hundred dollars ahead of the dealer and you are sure the honda or acura dealer didn't skimp on the parts and believe me, they do that all the time... some of them will charge you for the water pump and not bother to change it as they rarely fail and the odds are that you will get outside of the warranty period without it happening and they pocket about $200 extra parts and labor."

I used a heat gun to soften the assembly up a little and massaged it to get it to fit a lot better and close to being correct as it was designed for. Some times they go "Offshore" for a while and then bring the jobs back home when it obviously doesn't work out when the quality goes way down and they start losing customers and their bottom line!!!! Because ARP studs are manufactured to such exacting tolerances, you will note that gaskets and cylinder heads literally glide into position and are perfectly aligned, something that won't happen with inferior quality head studs. ARP studs are thread rolled after heat treat, which gives them about 1000 Percent (that's ten times) better fatigue strength than those studs that are threaded prior to heat treat. This procedure (done only to the shorter studs) more equalizes the "stretch" of both studs, which makes for a more consistent clamping force and one that compensates for head gasket compression when the cylinder heads are installed. Thread Rolled After Heat Treat, Which Gives Them About Ten Times Better Fatigue Strength Than Those Studs That Are Threaded Prior To Heat Treat.
