After some experimentation, I found that one end is a catch cap and you can just apply pressure to it and it will break loss. You have to remove some of the screws from the front of the inner fender, it will give you a little working space."

For anyone reading this, to reduce the risk of your safety catches breaking, I took my small butane torch and heated the plastic catch in a vise, then bent them down about 1/16", then trimmed the end back with a grinder."
