The pad on the strap is enough that it won't cut into you, but it's not very soft. And the material for the strap is strong and pretty thick, looks durable, although the finish is a bit satiny and may be prone to stain. If you have a 10", 9", or even an 8", you won't be putting anything else in there, but it'll be sufficiently protected front and back. The outside pockets aren't protected at all by this foam-like 'stuff', and carrying an almost-full-size mouse in there (Logitech M310) with the laptop charger will make me very careful, in addition to the bulk it adds to the bag."

The cover also has magnets in it that turn off the tablet when you close the cover and turn it on when you open the cover. The inside surface of the cover is a micro fiber material and that protects your tablet screen from scratches when the cover is closed. I like that the micro SD card slot is covered when the tablet is installed in the case. When the flap is totally opened and folded back it does cover the rear facing camera but to be honest, every tablet case I have ever owned does exactly the same thing on all of my tablets."

"I like that the KHOMO cover goes all the way around, protecting both the front and back of the mini. Apple apparently doesn't have a companion case available for the mini to go with their Smart Cover.
