The only drawback with the Vixia line (so far) is that they don't offer 4K quality video...but frankly, the 4K videos I get filming in low-light settings with other cameras end up looking NO BETTER than 1080/60p...and when the file sizes explode to 5-6 times what I get with 1080/60p, you effectively max out computer memory after just one gig!! So, I had a gig come up where I really needed a 3rd camera (or really 7th camera, if you include GoPros), and I was torn between getting this Vixia HF R800, or the Vixia G20, which I call the poor-man's G40."
"I think they call this a face tracking feature, but basically you touch the screen on any part and it sets the focus to there... that is useful when you have something in the middle of the screen you want to focus on and there are other objects further away. Often the regular autofocus feature gets stuck on the background somewhere, the face feature works well and is much faster than trying to manually focus the camera."
"Keep in mind that I was walking in a busy mall as the cam needed to adapt to numerous lighting issues (Was quite pleased with the fps over this). - The video quality is very good as the cam captures a sharp detail layout of what it’s filming. - It’s a small compact cylinder which feels good in your hand, while not experiencing significant heat from it. - This is a “set and forget” type of camera as you really don’t need to do anything other than turn it on and press record. I believe you can go to 57x into a focal point, really impressive, as I never realize that I would spend 5 minutes of memory just for filming ants. Cons and Oks:__________. - Sometimes I experience the video playback from my computer to be rough as something that you’ll see on a $50 camera. It’s alright but you’ll see the difference in quality compare to daytime filming, - Complete zoom out doesn’t give you a whole 180 degree viewing as its right at the fisheye lens. It’s small, compact, a good battery life, and is something that doesn’t require extensive knowledge in video experience. I had a great time using it as the light/compact style made it fast and easy to turn it on and begin filming. Social media bloggers will love the size and image quality when filming but the microphone may be a deal breaker. It’s not bad but without a manual audio control level feature in the cam you won’t be able to know if your voice can be heard."

Find Best Price at Amazon"My first impressions are: The field of view isn't as wide as my hero 4 back. Size is almost Identical. Screen on the back of the Yi is beautiful. Audio is good, but the USB audio option on the hero is better. Video quality is similar though Hero 4 has more contrast. I'll post more as I get a chance to test these two cameras out. The Hero 4 is getting a run for the money with the Yi 4k action camera, but there are a few trade-offs'. Tested the Yi action camera out with a 128GB memory card and with 4k video recording on I now have the ability to record 4 hours 32 min on a 128GB card. Also here's the list of possible options for photograph/video recording: Photo mode. Timer mode. Burst mode. Video mode. Time lapse Video mode. Slow motion mode. Time Lapse Photo mode. Loop mode. Video+photo mode. Update 7/17/16: A number of people have asked about grayed out features and file splitting so I thought I'd add this to the review. Also, note that when the camera creates a file it also creates a smaller version of the file with the label "_thm" that version of the file is used for cell phone wifi viewing and is basically a low-resolution copy of the actual recording. 7/18/16 Firmware version 1.0.12 out, fixes some memory card issues and adds housing mode that allows camera modes to be changed with a long press. Yi has added "Yi color" and "flat" color modes. "In house mode" has been updated for single button use and image stabilization now works in 2.7k mode."
"The app has some great features, but it was hard to figure out how to save the videos on his iPad. He has to send them to himself via iMessage in order to post on Instagram or Facebook. Also, you have to connect to the camera's wifi and go through the record option to access the gallery of videos. We are looking forward to getting outdoors and filming our adventures thanks to the Yi 4K action camera. My son keeps thanking me for this gift which means he's happy and that's all that matters!"

"The only two pieces of plastic on the unit are two non-critical plastic tension screws that could be replaced with a 5-cent wingnut if they were to ever break or get lost. I eventually found the sweet spot for my counterweights and repositioned the handle to the front position. I see so many people on Youtube who would vastly improve their videos if they would start using a stabilizer. You won't be able to do that with a larger stabilizer because a lot of the units extend 2-3 feet below the camera. This stabilizer is considerably lighter than my Opteka unit that kills my arm after using it for 5 minutes, not to mention the Roxant costs 1/3 the price and works equally as well."

"The Steadytracker was too heavy and too big(i would bump the legs into the wall or furniture or even my own legs on low shots) and it was extremely hard to get gimbal type of smoothness. However, using the steadytracker did teach me how to move with a stabilizer so I was very happy to see how smooth my shots are using the Roxant. I will say even though it's not perfectly balanced on my G7, I am still getting smoother shots with it than I did with my Canon on the steadytracker."

"Considering my satisfaction with the hero3, picking up a hero4 was inevitable. **UPDATE: Took off a star for questionable issue: While i haven't come across any major glitches, it does seem to hiccup here and there (my hero3 did the same), the heat that comes off it can be more than warm, but it seems others are experiencing rather hot temperatures. While not entirely reassuring, i've heard some folks have positive experiences dealing with gopro on their overheating matters. What i like about the hero 4 black: -4K at usable framerates (hero3 could only do 15fps). -Sweet 120fps slow motion at 1080. -More wireless connectivity(some hiccups, but can work). -More slowmotion. -Sharpness is satisfactory. -Lowlight is decent enough. -More manual control. What's not to like? Yea, it's odd and i would have much preferred the flagship get the screen, that being said, i've gotten along very well with my screen-less hero 3, because i have a cautious understanding of the angles it can capture at narrow/medium/wide settings. heat wears electronics down, reducing their life, if this thing's average temperature is 130degrees, how long will it live? The 4k from the hero4 looks pretty satisfying, maybe not as sharp as bigger/professional cameras, but this is a tiny actioncamera, and i don't see it reasonable to hold it to quite the same standards. Bitrate: 4k gives you up to 60mpbs, which may sound low, but other more expensive cameras use a similar setup and get nice results, and the gopro does pretty well here as well."

Verdict. - The GoPro Hero 5 Black is a great $400 action camera intended for a very specific market of videographers. Throw this tiny camera in your bag, go skiing, surfing, traveling the country, and when you're all done, put together something worth sharing. I am brand new to the GoPro, and I, like many others I'm sure, was overwhelmed by the number of kits on Amazon. I opened it up to find the parts seperated into Ziploc bags, nice touch. The suction cup mount is really strong and will make for some great shots in "awkward" places like your windshield or elsewhere. The miscellaneous pieces including screws, mounts, and adhesive pads all work. It is sturdy enough that I'll use it and trust it with my GoPro, but I won't be holding it off the edge of the Empire State Building. It does have a strap that you can put around your wrist for added safety, which is a nice touch."
