Reviews
"I recently ordered three enameled dutch ovens from Amazon, and two of them were damaged as a result of very poor packaging. It is not clear from the listing above, but if you look closely, below the ordering information, there is a small note stating that this item will ship in its original box. With the extra box, my Lodge arrived very carefully packaged, and the pot was in perfect, pristine condition. The Lodge dutch oven has lovely exterior enamel and the cast iron is a bit heavier than other models."
"Although the item doesn't state it, Lodge replaced all their silly plastic lid knobs with steel ones... meaning they can be in a 500F oven!"
"I haven't cooked in mine yet, but I did in the one my son has and he's had his for a few years, and it's still in perfect condition. Update: After using this gorgeous pot weekly for the past 5 months it still looks brand new as if I just pulled it out of the box with the exception of 1 small pin size spot on the inside enamel missing."
"Product received with a chip in the lid."
"But today when I brown chicken breast, I heard of a pop and the oven looks like as following pic.I promise I followed all the thing listing on the instruction, wash it by hand, never heat it when it's empty."
"I purchased a Lodge EC6D43 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 6-Quart, Island Spice Red on January 31, 2017. After reading amazon feedback, there appears to be a number of people with similar problems. I am waiting to hear back from Lodge, but probably should have gone with a higher end product."
"Enamel inside bottom chipped on the second use."
"Outside package was not damaged but as soon as I opened the box there was green enamel all on the inside!"

"I scrubbed it with hot water and coarse kosher salt, rinsed, then set on a burner and turned the burner on low, then gradually increased the heat until fully dry. While the pan is hot, I take a little bit of Crisco Shortening (about a tablespoon) and drop it in the pan, using a pasty brush I spread the melted shortening over the full interior surface, then I take a paper towel and wipe out any excess (but not too dry you want it to have a slight sheen to it), then I rub the outside of the pan, including the handle, sides and bottom. If you do have a sticking when the pan has cooled add hot water only, allow to soak for about 15 minutes or so and clean as usual."
"But really, the proof in the quality of this cast iron was obvious when i made sweet potato corn bread and baked it in the oven in this skillet. I'm enclosing pictures, so you can see the nice way it cooked the corn bread on both the top and bottom of the bread."
"I love this skillet!"
"Perfect for egg muffin sandwiches, it's the right size and height after cooking compared to the "Mc" brand."
"To season the pan (yes, it is pre-seasoned, but...if you want the BEST non-stick pan...) just coat the pan with a light coating of cooking oil and put it in the oven (upside down) at 450 for 20 minutes. Then, turn the oven off and let the pan cool off. The best part is when a recipe requires cooking in a pan and then transferring the contents into bakeware, so it can be placed in the oven."

Lodge Cast Iron Skillet with Red Silicone Hot Handle Holder, 12-inch
Easy care: hand wash, dry, rub with cooking oil.
Reviews
"I've added a full sized dinner fork and another common kitchen amenity to give this a bit of scale: if you need a big pan, this is definitely perfect for paella or another large skillet type meal."
"I didn't feel like spending $300 for an antique skillet on ebay, however, so I bought one of these and polished the entire interior surface with a power drill and an avanti quick strip disk, and finished it off with an orbital sander. Still, I find it pretty irritating that there are no major manufacturers of smooth-bottom cast iron skillets in this day and age."
"When it was past time to replace our non-stick fry pans, I started doing some research and even the "Eco" ones aren't meant to be used at high temperatures (that are easily reached on consumer ovens) so I set out looking for alternatives."
"The entire skillet including the handle gets extremely hot and it is safer and more convenient to use the silicone handle protectors then a oven mitt or dish towel."
"We have purchased several non stick pans over the years for daily use and they never last more than couple years."
"I cook grilled cheese, hamburger, eggs, bacon, country green beans, steak you name it, in this pan and it all turns out beautifully. Once a week I rub the inside down with shortening, turn it upside down on my center oven rack with foil below it on the next rack down and cook it for an hour at 375."
"The non stick pans no matter what they claim have a very limited lifespan. It make food taste great, but you have to learn how to cook with it."
"I got mine from my grandma and they were already seasoned and everything, but when I moved out I wanted to give the gift of cast iron to my roommate and got her this pan."

Presto 01781 23-Quart Pressure Canner and Cooker
The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry. An accompanying rack fits down into the pot to keep jars up off the bottom, so that liquid can circulate underneath. An accompanying booklet contains more than 50 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even sweets like English Plum Pudding or Brown Bread! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork, or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture. Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this aluminum pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. Deluxe pressure dial gauge registers the complete range of processing pressures; This precise measurement is especially important at higher altitudes.
Reviews
"(from applesauce to grape juice to green beans to venison). My sister got the All American Canner and we canned side by side a lot so we could compare the two. She can make applesauce in hers w/o burning the bottom (I burned mine), but I can use the Presto one on my glass top oven which she can't do with her All American because of how heavy it is. The All American is a weighted gauge canner, while this Presto one is a dial gauge canner."
"When we move to a lower elevation I will invest in a 5-10-15lb weight because I prefer the jiggler to the pressure gauge. They both work perfectly and I have since purchased the 6 quart pressure cooker and absolutely love it for cooking. I used the 16 quart canner to reheat a rotisserie chicken and it turned out amazing and did it faster and better than the microwave and more moist than the oven. To sum up the capacity: The 23 Qt will hot water bath 7 quarts or 10 pints (stacking is not recommended for water bathing) and. pressure can 7 quarts or 20 pints(double staked). the 16 Qt will hot water bath 10 pints (water bathing quarts is not recommended) and. pressure can 7 quarts or 10 pints. The 6 Qt is not recommended for canning, but makes dinners or sides very quick and easy."
"This pressure canner works very well and I now feel confident in pressure canning even more foods for my family!"
"Gasket seems well made, good solid bottom and top. Gaskets for pressure gauge, over pressure relief valve and main lid gaskets look like main areas of maintenance."
"Good product, Instructions are simple to follow, no tools needed, fast shipping, only issue the handles are short so allow it to cool to avoid steam burn or add some long pot holder gloves to your cart."

"I always use the bottom pan of the stack to cook stuff. like rice and the top pan for items that cook more easily like veggies, lentils, meat etc. Here are some combinations I tried. In the bottom pan I took 2 cups of washed long grain. brown rice with 4 cups of water (I like my rice soft reduce the water if. you like it not too soft). Added 2 cups of water to the IP¹s inner pot, covered top pan with lid, inserted the ekovana pans using the handle and. set IP in manual mode for 10mins high and allow NPR. I have also used the pans to steam cook potatoes, eggs and other. veggies. While steaming and reheating, I do not add any water to the. ekovana pans."

"However, having said that if you want your pans to always look brand new and unused and don't want to use a "toxic" cleaner I suggest you do what I just did and use plain old household vinegar for the same results. If I can figure out how I will post a photo of before and after a couple minutes of vinegar. I just added a very small amount of vinegar, about 2 T probably, swished it around let it sit for a minute, applied a sponge, rinsed, dried and bam see next photo."

"Pros: +Really good looking (I greatly prefer the brushed exterior over polished). +Set includes a lid that will fit each pan (not all at the same time, though). +Curved lip for easy pouring. +Includes exactly the pieces I'd want. +Overall build quality rivals that of sets costing 2x the price or more. +Will probably last a lifetime. Cons: -Does take a bit of work to get used to and maintain (proper preheating and use of oil as well as a bit more elbow grease to clean over non-stick). -Questionable warranty (representative placed strong emphasis on the word "LIMITED" before "Lifetime", customer pays shipping BOTH WAYS). I almost went for the Tramontina Tri-Ply Clad pieces you can pick up for a reasonable price at Wal-Mart, but decided against it as this set looks better visually and includes all the pieces I wanted; finding all the Tramontina pieces I'd need looked like quite a chore. Best Griddles

Lodge LPGI3 Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle, 20-inch x 10.44-inch, Black
Fits over two stovetop burners, not recommended for some glass top stoves. 20 inch by 10.44 inch Seasoned Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle for two burners.
Reviews
"It is large enough to sear several steaks at a time, giving them a beautiful flavorful crust. Eggs, pancakes, french toast, grilled cheese, bacon, stir fry, salmon, literally everything I have thrown at it has been cooked faster and with more flavor than a normal pan. I can heat the griddle as hot as I like, unlike teflon cookware which can damage the nonstick properties. Lodge claims that the griddle is already pre-seasoned, but the first time I tried cooking some sunny side up eggs I ended up with a burnt crusty omelet that stuck to the pan. Thus, I began my Google search for the best method to season a cast iron pan. This basically means that the fat content in the flax oil breaks down readily at high heat and forms a tough film that gives cast-iron its non-stick properties. Again you want to make sure you do not go over 400 degrees because then the oil begins to smoke too quickly and the process of forming the hard coat is rushed. You may also want to open your windows and turn on the fan, the oil is essentially burning into smoke which may irritate your eyes and lungs. After an hour, turn off your stove and let the pan come to room temperature or cool enough to handle. Contrary to popular belief, a well-seasoned cast iron pan will NOT lose its coat with soap."
"We just got a new stove and compared to the old el'cheapo model, the difference in output is astonishing. I laughed when I saw a IR image of heat distribution and the belly aching about it. Enough to hash-mark the pork loin I cooked last night. You could light one back burner on medium and I guarantee you that in a half hour, if you try to pick it up form the end furthest away form the heat source that you'll be severely burned. Use something that wont scratch and scrape it clean under warm running water while the griddle is still warm...Then place it back on the stove and reheat to remove all water."
"Anyways, I had a hard time deciding and checked out Lodge's website as they have detailed measurements in PDF form available. I couldn't find any decent comparison pictures so I decided to add my own so others can make a decision to suit thei needs. I use the Lodge silicone egg rings though, and they work well and you can fit a bunch on this product for easy cooking. Easy way to cook lots of bacon or making hot sandwiches or just about anything."

"I was raised on a dairy farm, and chainmail was used in the creamery for washing milk bottles back when the job was done by hand--drop it in, swish it around with the bottle half full of hot soapy water, and it worked better than any bottle brush. My iron skillets and kettles are so well-seasoned I don't expect to ever have to use it to clean any of them, but I can recommend it for all of the above cleaning jobs and have no reason to doubt that it works well at restoring cast iron."
"I've always used stainless steel scrubbers on my cast iron, but they would get really dirty and they're really hard to clean, so I'd throw them out and get a new one each time I cleaned my cast iron."
"Discovering thus chain mail scrubber has made all the difference in the world to me in cleaning my cast iron pans."
""it works great on my Lodge grill pan, This is my second one, as my wife let my first one fall into the garbage disposal and...well...You know I love this product when I'm willing to purchase it again."
"I use this to clean badly baked and burned-on food from cast iron skillets and a dutch oven, and it does a very good job."
"I would recommend this Scraper to anyone that uses cast iron pan and wants to maintain cleanliness without stripping the surface."
"Useful little device, and easy to use; I needed nothing but the scrubber itself to clean a cast iron pan."

"heavy duty."
"We have found Lodge cast iron items to be top notch in quality, and this lid is no exception."
"Bought this to fit a no name number 5 and it was SO close."
"The lid has expanded an already large repetoire of cooking options for my beloved skillet and I accordingly recommend it to anyone who has a 12" cast iron skillet and who wants to do more than just fry and open bake with that."
"Something to keep in mind is that the lid has to be treated the same way as a cast iron pan, for me that involves mostly inverting it over an open flame after use."
"It fits perfectly, it's solid - good addition for the Logic 12" pan."

"Plenty of space recovered from having this pot rack and I kept the old one and moved it farther down the beam in order to hang garlic/onions and whatever else comes to mind."
"Could supply more hooks, but you can easily get these from a local hardware store."
"So we looked for another pot rack and came across this one."
"I hae a complete set of Rachael Ray cookware hanging on it plus a few other pots and pans and it is doing just fine."
"I bought the copper version of this rack at an Amazon warehouse deal discount rate."
"Came with more than enough hooks (and space for more to be added if needed) and I do not care about the mixed colors (black item and hooks with silver chains and grid shelf)."
"The factory rack comes with 12 hanging hooks which will hold a complete pot/pan set minus the Utensil's (as mine sit in a metal bin for them on the counter this isn't an issue for me). The chain that comes with the rack is I believe a plastic composite NOT METAL, you may want to go to your local hard ware store and get metal as I know I will soon. The center metal rack just sits on top of 4 metal tabs so I don't recommend putting anything too heavy on it, however one pot and some lids should be more than fine."
"It really is the BEST priced rack on Amazon, the others are unbelievably costly and this one serves exactly the same purpose so I don't understand why would you want to pay more. It cleared up my counters, my cabinets and my oven where I had to store some of my larger pots I had no room for."

"I love to cook, and the technology as well as the ability to have an app where I could store everything to do with my Instant Pot in one place really excited me, so rather than purchasing another Duo I decided to go for the Smart Pot for several reasons, one of which was the convenience of using the app to store recipes that I have created along with cooking/timing instructions that I thought could be stored in the app. Except for the included recipes that come with the app, you must access your recipe elsewhere instead of having your downloaded or created recipes available to reference within the app itself. In other words, you can download scripts that go with recipes from the web, but you can't download the recipe itself, nor the photo included with the recipe/instructions. As of today there are 21 recipes in the app which were included with the app. All you can do is put scripts that go with recipes in there, but no recipes to accompany the scripts. ***Note: The very limited number of recipes that are included with the app have the full recipes, photos, plus instructions included, as well as the script that accompanies the recipe. I assumed when purchasing the Smart Pot, that the recipes on the web which were advertised as being downloadable by Instant Pot would appear the same in the app as the recipes included with the app. Disorganization of recipe scripts: there is no way to categorize or alphabetize added scripts-. As if not being able to write and add recipes or download recipes isn't bad enough, additionally there is also no way to organize scripts. The scripts are difficult to locate, as there is no way to organize them to help you locate the scripts that you have downloaded or customized and added. What happens when you download or create a script is that the name of the script will show up in a little box at the bottom of your app. No photo (or recipe) to accompany that, but just the name of the script and script instructions for pot. To find a recipe script you will have to laterally and literally scroll through all the other recipe script names. (high pressure for 3, release pressure after 10 minutes) Yet still on the app, the script states "Hold to high pressure for 4 minutes", "Pause Hot for 10," "Pause done 01". Also, when the app is running this script the app says the pot is at low pressure when the pot is actually at high pressure. (evident by viewing pressure bars on pot) This bug presents itself when using other recipes in the app as well. *When I use scripts, the scripts finish and the pot doesn't go into "keep warm" mode. Note: What I am doing is using an app called Paprika to store my recipes along with the scripts for the Instant Pot. I simply go from there and create a script in my Instant Pot app to use temporarily. It saves more time and less frustration than trying to find a script within the disorganized Instant Pot app, and since I can't upload or enter a recipe in the app, I have to store recipes in an organized place. Update April 21: For those of you interested in the Instant Pot Smart, I have recently seen via the Instant Pot website (comments under the Smart Pot page and spoken by one of the Instant Pot people) that the new version will be released in May 2015. Copied from Instant Pot site comments: "we expect the Android app to be available in May, roughly coinciding with availability of the updated Instant Pot SMART!" For example I have a script called "Bean Soak" but when I search for it the app can't find it. I was recently short on time so I bumped the Smart Pot script up to 130 for 4 hours and that worked perfectly as well."
"I used to use a food processor which was a mess to clean, now I throw the whole head of cauliflower in my steam basket with 1 cup of water in the instant pot and it's done in 1 minute on manual. Cheesecake, beans, ribs, bbq sauce, chicken pot pie, whole spaghetti squash, hard boiled eggs, I've loved every single thing I've tried so far."
"Here was their response: "Thank you for the pictures, we are sorry that your base got melted did you left the base on after you took the inner pot out or left on top of a heating element, our pot has 10 safety features to prevent any over heating, by the pictures that you send the melting is from the outside in is perfectly melted evenly and clear that was sent on a heating element, you can definitely purchase a new base for $60.00 Please advice." I very clearly explained to them it was having issues cooking things properly and kept burning stuff, and then this happened which smelled like an electrical problem, as there was smoke and a capacitor that popped and noxious fumes.... and the response: "That is correct, the overheating error will appear on the screen and the pot will turn it self off, this damaged was not cause by the heat inside the base, as per your picture the whole heating element is untouched. They're trying to say the overheating error on the screen has to do with electrical fires as well as your food getting too hot.... and that because the heating elements were fine inside the pot that it's obvious the unit didn't malfunction electrically, despite the electrics obviously not being inside the pot, but under, where it burned and melted. After incoherent and very defensive/obstinate responses from customer support, including an email that said "please see the pictures attached from honest customers" with three straight emails sending me pictures I didn't request, I asked the customer support agent to stop and to forward our correspondence to a supervisor. Funny thing is the pictures attached looked nothing like the damage to my unit, but whatever, after requesting to speak with a supervisor the customer service agent said she'd send me a new base. From denying your product could ever be faulty, to then determining with a few pictures that not only was it the customer's fault but that it would be a good idea to send three straight emails to the customer with pictures of OTHER people's damage claiming it's from 'honest' customers, and of course trying to SELL the customer a new product every step of the way."

"No one likes having his or her food come out burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside, or one side being more cooked than the other due to burner `hot spotting'. Good quality cookware with a more even heating transfer is one of the easiest ways to avoid this. $1,000 on a set of standard All-Clads, a few niche pots for your favorite food types with a steamer, and a nice cutlery set (Shun or Mosimoto, for example) is something that will last decades where as spending $10 a day on lunch doesn't last long at all, but it sure adds up fast. The durability of these over the models costing ¼ to ½ the price is also pretty substantial. And if you move to a place with a different stove, you can take comfort in knowing that All-Clad cookware excels with gas, electric, induction, side-heat, and open pit cooking. Exotic cookware such as enameled iron, carbon steel, carbon fiber, ceramic, and organic materials all have some positives, but weaknesses at the points of either costs, durability, heat conductivity, upkeep, or a combination of the above...and these issues are enough to exclude these from fitting the needs of most people. Stainless on the outside, aluminum on the inside (and with All-Clad's higher end models, add copper and multiple cores). Also, many people note that the rivets on the handle of All-Clad makes cleaning in the area somewhat difficult...and I agree. The rivets are massive and as soon as you pick up a pot and run your finger over them, you will see they are heavy duty. The little extra cleaning effort is worth this level of durability as those rivets will give decades of great usage. A 30 second clean with Bar Keeper's Friend will make them looking consistently good with minimal effort. If they show a few scratches, who cares?...it's a device used to make food, not an art museum display. I don't like these, and if you spend a lot on cookware, I would advise NOT buying anything that is labeled as non-stick and a coating is what is used to give non-stick properties. If you are thinking about clad, get the stainless surfaces as it will be easier to maintain, last longer, and can withstand incredible abuse. Also, cooking practice makes it easier to reduce sticking with stainless cookware...for example, something like olive oil and slightly lower heat does wonders."

"I decided to go with stainless steel because no matter how much it sticks, you can always get it out with Bar Keepers Friend, soaking or as a last resort; steel wool. Read all the reviews before getting it and noticed a lot say it does not heat up well enough, it sticks, it doesn't clean well, the lid is too heavy and the wok is too light, and to only use it on medium low heat to avoid burned or stuck food. I tried it on medium low heat and it had so little heat that I could touch the sides of the pan and it wast even warm to the touch. I finally decided to use it on high heat, which is how stir-fry is supposed to be cooked at and everything worked great. Whatever leftover food stains on the wok can be worked out with some soaking and Bar Keepers Friend. As for the wok being too light, that's generally how it should be as the method used during stir-fry is to lift the wok up with one hand and dish/scrape the food onto a place with the other. If there's still food stains, use Bar Keepers Friend. I'm happy with this purchase."
"It makes sense that some people may have simply overlooked this, and started boiling water, cook steak etc, on high heat and then been confused as to why things were burning."
"However... the rivets that they used to attach the handles onto the cookware are made of cheap crap. The first time I made a soup in the stock pot I had to store the pot in the fridge for a couple of days. I don't understand why you would make a good pan, but attach the handles with cheap product that break down from simple food and washing over time."
"How a manufacturer van make a pot and handles out of stainless steel and use a rivet with a lesser grade of SS is I am sure not a design flaw but a part substitution."
"After it was done, I turned the heat OFF, took some on my plate and put the lid on to keep the rest of the food warm."
"While the pan is nice, I received a defective glass lid that shattered the first time I used it, while cooking with it."
"I commented on another review that wrote that the glass top shattered, but I feel the need to write another so that this can product can have a lower star review and to encourage people NOT to buy this product. This is a big safety issue that has seriously made me consider not buying any Cuisinart products as this should have been tested."

Best Skillets

Lodge Cast Iron Skillet with Red Silicone Hot Handle Holder, 12-inch
Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp in this generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting and two subtle side lips for pouring. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, theses virtually indestructible cookware should last for generations. Note the black patina given to the cookware by the factory seasoning process is, in fact, vegetable oil that has been baked into a piece of cookware that has emerged from an individual sand mold. As a result of this process, you may see a blister or bubble of oil at the rim, southern-most point or at the end of the handle of the cookware piece.
"This is the first cast iron pan I've ever used and was unfamiliar with how to properly care for cast iron. The first time using it, the food stuck like glue so I left it to soak overnight."
"The skillet performed very well on the first use and it was very easy to clean."
"When it was past time to replace our non-stick fry pans, I started doing some research and even the "Eco" ones aren't meant to be used at high temperatures (that are easily reached on consumer ovens) so I set out looking for alternatives."
"As others have said, just rinsing in warm water with soap and no harsh scrubber will do the trick. I have been using for about a month (I really DO use it daily, sometimes multiple times) and have yet to deal with a rust spot."
"The entire skillet including the handle gets extremely hot and it is safer and more convenient to use the silicone handle protectors then a oven mitt or dish towel."
"We have purchased several non stick pans over the years for daily use and they never last more than couple years."

"This is my second purchase for Cuisinart crepe pan. There are many pics available for this pan on internet. You can not go wrong with this pan."
"I like the size and weight of this skillet. One issue I'm having is that it seems to be slow to heat."
"The lid design is a minor drawback--it performs well for sealing and steaming food but is a bit cumbersome to set it down on the counter when it's hot."
"This is a great non-stick stock pot, but it is smaller than the measurements indicate."
"We love this pan...bought two...BUT after about 2 months the nonstick value is going fast and dosas stick all the time...so we cannot use it."
"She once made a comment that if only she had a thin crepe pan with even heat distribution, she would make crepes more often."
"this is the best pan I ever cooked with, and I have bought many pans."
"The glass in the lid broke and the handle on the lid buckled in into the pan. Don't buy this pan, if you buy it don't use the lid. I have solid evidence to what happened to the pan just 20 days after I bought the pan."

"I always use the bottom pan of the stack to cook stuff. like rice and the top pan for items that cook more easily like veggies, lentils, meat etc. Here are some combinations I tried. Added 2 cups of water to the IP¹s inner pot, covered top pan with lid, inserted the ekovana pans using the handle and. set IP in manual mode for 10mins high and allow NPR. "Love it and use it often!"
"The two best things about this product are: A: It's cast iron, it will out last you if you take care of it. just spend five minutes after your meal to wash it (no soap needed). dry it (with a dish rag and then on the stove over low to medium heat) oil it (light coat with a paper towel). Ooh, I wanna take ya! Okay, Its only about seven or eight pounds, but you still shouldn't drop it on your toe. Or an Ewok, which is not a Wok at all, but a joke played on all of us by George Lucas."

"We had replaced all of our old Teflon non stick cookware awhile back for health reasons but not our Wok. But we weren't sure if we should do a ceramic one (which doesn't work well with high heat), a PFOE free non stick(which who knows how safe that is long term), or a stainless one. We use plenty of healthy fats when cooking in the Wok, so we haven't had sticking issues."
"As a side note, I'll just add that I broke the cardinal rule of buying this kitchen appliance for my wife for her birthday... And instead of being upset about that, she frequently says how much she loves it and it's one of her favorite things that I have bought her- so that should tell you something!"
