"We already had a standard coffee maker but I didn't want to brew a whole pot of coffee at once and single-serve coffee makers seem to be very popular so I figured it couldn't hurt to give it a try. I had seen several different Keurigs from the basic ones to very fancy ones but wanted to purchase one that both fulfilled my needs to brew a single cup of coffee and wasn't too expensive so I opted to buy the Keurig K55 Coffee Maker in black. Brewing: To brew a cup of coffee is very simple. When the three cup sizes illuminate in blue, you know it's time to brew your coffee. If someone else wants to brew a cup of coffee right after yours is done, all they have to do is remove your K-cup pod since they are single-use pods, add theirs and repeat the process. Water Reservoir: The reservoir holds 48 ounces of water so you don't have to fill it up every time you want to brew a new cup of coffee, which is one of the reasons I selected this model. ): The Keurig K55 Coffee Maker uses the K-cup pods, which you can purchase nearly everywhere and there are many brands and flavors to choose from. For instance, my mom and I have brewed cups of coffee one right after the other (different flavors) and neither of us have noticed the other flavor in our respective cups. I've only brewed one cup of apple cider with this and haven't noticed the previous coffee flavor in the apple cider or the apple cider in my next cup of coffee. It's not too loud when it's brewing the cup of coffee. It's a great model that is nice on your wallet and will brew a great cup of coffee as often as you'd like! I typically brew four cups of coffee a day now to keep up with my kids and I've had no trouble with using this Keurig."
"This is what made me a fan of coffee."
"However, we feel that the Keurig K55 coffee maker has proved superior to any of our previous coffee brewers. I like strong coffee, or sometimes I like to have flavored coffee, and my sister-in-law likes the same coffee that I do. Aside from the 5 press buttons to regulate the Keurig coffee maker, there are 3 other LED light indicators. Add Water – a Blue LED will light up. If there is not enough water, the coffee maker will not work, therefore I consider this indicator as a safety feature, as well as a resolution to a possible ‘user error’. WATER RESERVOIR: Included with the Keurig K55 is a Charcoal Water filter Cartridge Kit with 2 charcoal filters. This will eliminate the unwanted chemical taste that is in some water systems, and good tasting water is essential for a delicious cup of coffee. In addition, this coffee maker will accommodate my 7 ¼” coffee thermos by sliding the drip tray out from bottom base, and I can have my thermos filled when placed on the bottom flat tray base. THE KEURIG K55 ACCOMMODATES REUSABLE COFFEE FILTERS: My favorite coffee is from fresh beans that I grind myself, and therefore it’s important to me that a coffee maker will accommodate a reusable filter. The reusable coffer pod filter that I use is the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter (Single) – and this is compatible with the Keurig K55 model. This machine comes with a ‘Charcoal Water Filter Cartridge Kit and 2 charcoal pod filters, which guarantees excellent coffee, even though we have ‘hard water’ (which tastes awful) in our water system."

"This is a really great coffee maker, if you would like to have the option to have a single serve or a coffee pot full of coffee, then this is a great coffee maker for you."
"And with the single-serve side, we're actually using LESS coffee than we were using with our previous coffee maker, which was a standard "carafe" style coffee maker. So it turns out that we like the single-serve side so much that, one month and more than 100 cups of coffee later, we have yet to use the carafe side of the coffee maker."
"I will admit, I was not happy the hot plate rusted and became a hazard in 3 years and I did look at other coffee makers, but this one really does meet all our needs: it is still working great, it is easy enough that even my husband can make his coffee (I'm not joking he is not good with appliances), it makes a small pot of tea in less then 2 minutes. So for me it is a simple choice: I set my husband coffee with the timer the night before and when he gets up he has coffee, it makes a small pot if tea (16 oz). in less then 2 minutes (making my toast takes longer), the right side is multi-functional for brewing (no it won't take k-cups) it looks really nice, the coffee is hot, the water is very hot."
"Makes a nice single cup of coffee with about half the amount of grounds necessary for the Aeropress, my other favorite way of making coffee. My fault for putting in too much ground coffee in the basket, which then caused the brew water to back up into the reservoir, carrying grounds with it."
"Usually I am the only coffee drinker in the house so the ability to make one cup of coffee without having to use expensive pods has been wonderful. This coffee maker is a great mash-up of single-brew coffee and carafe coffee."

KONA French Press Coffee Maker With Reusable Stainless Steel Filter, Large Comfortable Handle & Glass Protecting Durable Black Shell
Its classic method effectively extracts any coffee bean's essential oils, delivering bold unique flavor directly to your cup, that is otherwise lost in paper filters. Also, a poor frame design with a brittle glass teapot will likely lead to accidental cracks with typical everyday use. We have taken extra care by thoughtfully wrapping the large pot with our protective design to minimize breakage but not at the expense of its looks. COMFORTABLE HANDLE ~ is durable & sturdy, clever design for free flowing & effortless pouring to your mug which also features a BPS / BPA FREE lid were no plastic comes in contact with your hot or iced cold brewed tea while steeping. EASY TO CLEAN Dishwasher Machine Safe & detachable stainless steel filter screen system with a quick and easy press, rubber plunger knob.

"KORA - carafe cannot be separated from its plastic frame. Bodum - carafe can be separated from metal frame. Lid: KORA uses a very thin plastic that can be easily squeezed from the edges. Entire lid rotates when positioning to pour. Bodum uses metal for the outer lid which feels heavier and more premium with an isolated plastic piece that rotates independently when positioning to pour. Spiral plate (the plate with holes and spring): KONA uses 2 rows of holes in their plate which go from small to large. KONA uses a 3-hole cutout pattern. Bodum uses a 4-hole cutout pattern. All of this said, I feel the higher price tag for the Bodum Chambord is justified. What this KONA did for me however, was replace my broken carafe and gave me a spare set of plates and a light duty filter for less than a replacement Bodum carafe. My humble recommendations: First french press pot - buy the Bodum. Replacement carafe for broken Bodum - buy the Kona and reuse your Bodum parts (assuming you don't mind not using your Bodum frame)."
"==UPDATED 12/26/14==. I'ved tried a couple French Presses, including the $20.00 Bodum French Press & the SterlingPro coffee press, and this is my favorite one so far. Since all of the french presses essentially work the same, there's not much variation in the quality of the coffee (they all taste delicious!). You take some coarse ground coffee (which you can get from stores or a manual grinder), put it in the french press, and then pour in hot water. Another advantage of a french press is the flexibility-you can adjust the temperature of the water as well as the concentration of the coffee (by adjusting the amount of coffee grounds), so you can brew the coffee the way you want. This press is also designed so that no plastic touches the hot water when you're brewing the coffee, so that's always a plus."
"I read an article about best coffee types and found out that many people prefer the French press method to brew their beans. The press is made well and the screen looks like it could strain sand."

Best Thermal Carafes

12-Cup Thermal Carafe - The large capacity carafe is double-walled and vacuum-sealed to keep your coffee at optimal drinking temperature for hours.

"The four reasons I would not buy this unit again are as follows: First, the handle broke inside the cap which caused dispensing to fail. I removed this ring & lever assembly and the dispensing was no longer blocked, but not sealed as well. Second, the white text on many of the buttons has completely worn off - I must program the unit from memory/habit. PRODUCT NOW RETIRED - HERE IS WHAT I REPLACED IT WITH: Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew 10-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker System, PSTX91. While I'm tempted to change this review to three stars, I'll leave it at four because I cannot recommend any other 12-cup thermal carafe products. *** ORIGINAL REVIEW ***. This unit was sold by Amazon and arrived in flawless new condition in brand new packaging. This machine replaces my two consecutive Cuisinart Grind-n-Brew coffee makers which also had thermal carafes, 10-cup size. It runs quietly and shuts off quickly, instead of making all sorts of banging and hissing noises like other machines do. This fits under the counter better, and takes up less space than my previous machines and competitors I considered before purchasing. On other brands, you have to hold the setting button down and wait for the display to start blinking before advancing. The LCD clock has big digits, but the display is recessed back behind the panel and is loses contrast as the viewing angle is higher. PROS: *Attractive unit. *Small footprint & height on counter. *Large capacity. *Good coffee flavor. *Remembers last strength setting. *Water level indicator on outside. *Easy cleaning of pot and filter holder. *Electronics positioned above carafe (safer). *Quiet operation. *Easy cleaning. *Easy to read instructions. CONS: *Hard-to-view clock, especially for taller folks. *Big flip lid on top requires pulling out from cabinets to fill. *Bumping big Hour/Minute buttons readily advances clock. *No back-up for power failure, loses time with a moment of power fail. *No filter supplied with machine. *Lever to dispense breaks over time inside carafe cap. *Text on buttons wears off over time."
"I like it. Normal, Strong and Bold. I used Strong and yes it was strong with using the normal amount with our prior coffee maker and this was with a paper filter. I am not sure why they state that this has a permanent filter so I will go buy a mesh filter. Pros. ~Temperature was 170 just brewed after 30 minutes the temp dropped a couple of degrees after 1 hour the temp was 164 3 hrs later temp was 145. Regular coffee makers suck the energy especially when left on for hours. More than my other coffee maker."
"Makes great coffee, the price is right, and keeps the coffee warm without overcooking."
"You brew your coffee and then the heating element shuts down and the insulated carafe keeps the coffee hot all morning long."
"Because we like the thermal carafe feature, on June 26, 2016 we ordered a replacement - same model - figuring it was a fluke."

Best Steam Espresso Machines

Breville BES920XL Dual Boiler Espresso Machine
Espresso perfection requires precision temperature and pressure control, consistently, every time. The espresso boiler, for the espresso shot, is PID temperature controlled, while a separate steam boiler offers instant and powerful steam on demand. So you can extract your shot at the right temperature, delivering optimal flavor, while simultaneously steaming your milk to cafe quality. The Dual Boiler also features an Over Pressure Valve (OPV) which limits the maximum pressure throughout the extraction, preventing bitter flavors in the shot. Backlit LCD displays brew temperature, shot clock or time.We recommend using cold, filtered water.
Reviews
"This review is from the viewpoint of a home espresso and latte maker who wants a solid machine that is a decent value. Breville has added the ability to drain the boiler for shipping and at-home descaling to this version, plus a few minor other tweaks. To be more specific, my first 900xl lasted about a year and then the pump slowly lost power so that the machines maxed out at five bars. Then a few months later, a plastic piece around the group head failed, chipping so that the machine could no longer maintain pressure, and sprayed hot water and grounds everywhere. To be as specific as possible, the portafilter has the two metal notches that slide into the group head to lock it into place. However, I feel like Breville has opted for cheaper internal parts and components to keep this thing in this price range. For my next espresso machine, I will definitely do some research and see if I can find a solidly-constructed alternative that might feature fewer nifty perks, but which might last much longer. For example, they new include "THE RAZOR" (cue dramatic sting music), a gold-colored metal piece you run over the loaded portafilter in order to ensure your dose isn't too large. In this price range, the Breville reigns as a machine that can consistently put out shots that are 95% as good as those Italian cafe espressos. The "rejected" roasts might be a new blend we try from Kuma Coffee or a local roaster, and then find the crema is a little thin or the flavor flat. For me personally, because this is a dual boiler I find I can start the steaming while I tamp and grind, and it doesn't really slow me down. Features. I've owned several Breville appliances, and I find that one of the most unique aspects to their design process is that they really think a machine through. This holds true in the Breville Dual Boiler 920XL, and the features combined make this a fun little machine to own. You can read Breville's advertising for comprehensive info, but these are the features that I personally appreciate when I'm making espresso: Dual boiler: you really can pull shots and steam simultaneously, and when I'm making after dinner espressos/cappuccinos/lattes for a dinner party the Breville brews and steams as fast as I can grind and tamp, ha. Make sure to measure before buying, ESPECIALLY if you want to take advantage of heating cups on top of the unit. A full-size mug easily fits under the portafilter during brewing, so I can pull a shot right into the drinking cup and then add milk for a cappuccino or espresso. However, if I turn my 920xl on at the same time I'm using my Breville Smart Toaster Oven (also awesome), I KNOW I'm risking a blown breaker, ha. I went to use the Oracle a couple of times to see if I wanted to upgrade, and I don't find it worth the extra money, honestly."
"Since we got this machine about 1 month ago, we have completely eliminated sweetener from our diet."
"Had been considering getting an automatic machine but so happy I decided to stick with getting a new Breville (my old one was about 8-9 years old)."
"Worth every penny."
"I've used this espresso machine for about two months daily and I absolutely love it."
"This replaced a Gaggia Titanium automated espresso machine, and even though we loved the old one, the BES920XL blows it out of the water."
"I love it."
"I was talked into getting my own quality espresso machine by a co-worker and after doing the math of getting a daily coffee at a coffee shop or just having my own machine at home that can pull shots almost as good, I realized the machine would pay for itself in months in terms of the savings ($4/day at coffee shop or $1/day at home). What it comes down to is this, the machine makes great coffee. My first machine lasted about 10 months, then it started spewing water uncontrollably until the tank emptied out. --- UPDATE -- 1/2017. So just thought I would update this as the machine started misbehaving once again. Customer support told me it was likely due to some coffee grounds stuck inside and that doing repeated cleaning cycles back to back would fix it. I should mention that I make 2 espressos a day and do a backflush every weekend, as well as do a cleaning cycles every time the machine prompts me. I wasn't charged for the repair even though I bought my original machine way before the 2 year warranty period, though at the same time, none of the repaired/replacement machines ever lasted a full 2 years. I still love the machine, but I think after the next breakage I will be upgrading to a non Breville brand."

"I'm happy with this purchase."
"My third drawer also operates rather smooth right out of the box with the friction being between that of drawer#1 and corrected drawer#2. The drawer stops opening once all but the rear 1" remains inside the chassis; this leverage keeps the drawer suspended open without any fear of it falling out onto the floor. Packaging. Don't be alarmed when first receiving the box and seeing 'Glass Drawer' on the top label; the center label should correctly state mesh drawer (reference customer images)."
"It's a solid built drawer that does not say or bend with the weight of a coffee maker on it. With winter here, we can add different hot chocolates with out loosing coffee space."
"Great addition to your Keurig."
"It fits our Keurig perfectly, one thing is that the space between the counter and upper cabinets is small so we actually have to pull it out and push it back against the wall when not in use."
"This product is a little larger than the "other" storage unit, but it holds more."
"a must for my house.....I had a carousel but my cats used to pop them out of it all the time and tossed them all around my house."

"A few minutes in the microwave shouldnt be too much punishment for these things to bear, I wouldnt think (it looks dirty in the picture but its not and i've scraped at them so its obvious that its like, melted, into the plastic or something) Other than that, they're pretty good."
"Overall I give them four out of five stars for the following: Pros. - Price. - the lids snap together. - no leaks. - you can freeze, microwave, and wash them in the dishwasher. - made in the usa. Cons. - you can't microwave the lid without it warping somewhat. - when dropped I have had edges break off. - they stain rather easily and I have had some of the actual containers melt/plastic bubble. They store food relatively well and despite a few flaws (that you'd expect with any set of plastic storage- if you don't want staining/occasional melting problems I would suggest paying the 3x more for a glass set) I've only had to throw out maybe three of them."
"They were ok, some were a little smaller than I expected..."

Reviews
