"I think the reason is these Solvit Steps have sides to each step and prevent mishaps and stepping off sideways causing a fall. The sides protect their feet and keep them on target going up and down rapidly or in the night getting on and off my bed. Super easy to unfold from the box NO putting together and best of all Made In America so you are supporting American Jobs."

Well - I cleaned up the pen parts, took the fabric off the bolsters and bed and tossed it in the washing machine, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. She lays her head on them, and when she falls asleep she sinks down onto the fur part and rolls on her back . If Sophie seems to be uncomfortable - I'll just buy one, cut it to size and stuff it under the one already there to give her added support. Another option is, if you and your pet really like this Sofa Bed...you can buy Seat Replacement Foam and cut it down to size to fit...I did this for a couch of our that the cushions were really cheaply made...and it worked perfectly. Sophie has extremely thin hair, and when she goes outside for longer than 15 minutes - we have to put sunscreen on her as she burns very quickly. Also...if you received a dirty Sofa...try contacting the Seller or Amazon and have it replaced BEFORE you write a negative review. It has what I was looking for for my dog, the price was right, it got here on time and in excellent condition, and most importantly of all...my baby LOVES her new Sofa Bed."

The medium sized pad measurements are exactly as described in the item description, and is perfect for my crate. If you do for some reason get a dud, it was probably a rare lemon, and I recommend returning it for a replacement."
