Best Household Ventilation Fans

Panasonic FV-11VQ5 WhisperCeiling 110 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan, White
Grille: Attached directly to housing with torsion springs, Motor type- Condenser, Grille Size: 13-Inches.
Reviews
"The actual rotating part of this fan is held into the frame with 3 screws which I removed to make it as light as possible while I was doing the installation. The most ingenious part of this fan is that there is a panel on the frame that has the connection for the flexible duct and the wiring - this panel lifts off after removing the screw that says something like "keep this screw in for grounding purposes." After I connected the wiring and duct, (here comes the tricky part) I was able to hold that panel in place in the hole with one hand and then take the frame for the fan in the other hand and push it straight up into the hole."
"If you want the timer to match the most popular color of light switches and frames available (almond), choose the "light almond" color for the timer."
"I actually wish I bought the lower CFM version as it gets very cold after shutting off water when finished showering. This fan is so strong you can feel a current of air coming from under door when door is closed."
"I bought this fan for a basement bath remodel after reading other favorable reviews. The volume of exhausted air was indeed impressive, and I began to worry about all the heat I was going to lose this winter when my son re-occupies his bath!"

"for installation with the panasonic FV-WCSW41 switch (designed for this fan), the enclosed instructions for the fan unit and the switch are useless (and incomplete)."
"If you ran 14ga wire it would be easier to stuff the wires in there but you're really getting close to the limit with a 15amp circuit due to the heater. I know the manual shows it being inserted from below.. and maybe I'm missing something, but the way the grille attaches with spring wires it will work either way, you'll just be able to see the cut edge of the drywall if you look closely through the grille. A couple of words of caution that could save you some hassels.. for the main light I used the original circuit from my old fan and lights as I wanted the old vanity lights to work at the same time. For the night light I decided to just hard wire it ON to save myself from running another switch wire. So I tapped onto another part of the original circuit where it branches off to power the lights in my kitchen. The problem with this is the both of these wires were on the load side of GFCI's and the light and nightlight circuits on the Panasonic share a common neutral... There was no reason for those wires to be on the load side of the GFCI's but whoever wired them was just trying to save from using wire nuts and threw them on the load terminals. With the night light hard wired 'on' I only needed 3 switches so I put in a 3 gang box and have one decora for the light, a Lutron countdown timer for the fan, and another regular 20a decora for the heater. I contemplated putting in a leviton countdown timer for the heater, which would be nice, but these seem to have a pretty high failure rate and I'm sure with a high current device attached the rate of failure is even higher. Almost exact color temperature and just as bright if not brighter.. .36 watts makes hard wiring the night light on even more practical."
"I've personally installed four of these now--two for a friend and two for my house--so I feel somewhat qualified to give you a review. You do NOT need attic/overhead access to install this unit, but if not you'll be cutting and repairing sheetrock (on a remodel). In spite of the expense, weight, and install quirks I think this unit is THE one to buy. I've installed all kinds, and I've also done commercial and residential electric work professionally so I've installed everything from ceiling fans to high-voltage switchgear."
"It is so quiet I can hardly tell that it is on, but it offers great exhaust in our bathroom and the heat really warms up the room."
"The night light is a great touch. My husband is an electrician and our handy-man super talented, so installation wasn't an issue for us."
"So quiet, like a new world in our bathroom."

HEARTLAND 21000 Dryer Vent Closure
Replace your old vent with the Heartland Natural Vent. EASY-TO-INSTALL –Dryer vent closure with hassle-free installation.
Reviews
"The square flange was somewhat bigger footprint than the previous cover and I needed to cut back some surrounding trim for it to fit flush. The supplied screws have fairly small heads and I decided to back them with some washers to avoid cracking the plastic. I used a small bubble level to assure it was plumb so the mechanism would move smoothly up and down. It looks easy to pop the top and clean this unit to assure it continues to operate as designed."
"If your are looking for a dryer vent that keeps the air out give this product a try, I do not think you will be disappointed."
"It has really cut down on the cold air coming into the house via the dryer vent and has eliminated a big draft in that section of the house."
"This is a very good product."
"Way better than the standard metal flapper cover it replaced."
"Previous types always seemed to let mice enter the house."
"I have no way to calculate the energy saving from installing this device although there certainly will be some because cold air can't simply fall down the dryer vent pipe."
"Works really well."

Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat 1F86U-42WF for Smart Home, Works with Amazon Alexa
Designed to work with the wires you already have, Sensi thermostat does not require a common wire (c-wire) in many cases, so it is compatible with most heating and cooling systems* (U.S. and Canada only). Set your Sensi thermostat to automatically adjust your homes temperature for location-based temperature control with geofencing, or quickly create a 7-day schedule to reduce wasteful heating and cooling when no one is home. Integrates with Amazon Alexa for voice control and Wink smart home platforms, and works with Google Assistant and Google Home using the no cost Wink app.
Reviews
"In my research I learned that my primary complaint the Nest - that the temperature swing was too wide - was addressed by Sensi's "cycle rate" setting. Nest's no-button design is cool, but using a thermostat is not a lecture in UX minimalism, and black-and-chrome doesn't really disappear into the background of my home (white trim and all). Granted, we didn't also install a second Nest to have more temperature sensors, and we didn't buy their $200 talking smoke detectors which also report environmental statistics back to the thermostat. Most people won't care about this but being a network security engineer, I'm impressed that the thermostat has exactly 0 open TCP ports, outbound communication is with one IP, and total traffic is very modest."
"--. I had been wanting to get a WiFi Thermostat for a long time now, but I held off because I was worried that I would buy one that wouldn't be compatible with my home or that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to install it. You select the wires that your current thermostat has, and then the app tells you what to label them and where they will go in the new thermostat. I had never replaced a thermostat before, and it took me under 30 minutes (which includes unboxing, looking for screwdriver, looking for AC unit shut off switch, watching how-to videos included with the app, etc). The app is handy because it also tells you your local Hi and Low temps from the forecast as well as the humidity in your home, upcoming schedule, set temp, actual temp, and the background is either blue, red, or grey depending on if your system is on Cool, Heat, or off at the moment. The only thing this is missing is a few more advanced options for the app, such as specific alerts (like if the temperature is changed manually, I would like to be able to get an instant alert on my phone) and an air filter change reminder that can be set for a certain amount of time (like 1, 2, or 3 months)."

Reviews
"Bought this to deflect the dry air being blown on my face while I sleep in bed."
"The clear plastic pieces are adjustable and placement is super simple."
"I bought some steel mending plates at Home Depot for about $2 and mounted them to the ceiling with the vent cover. I can't speak on the deflectors melting since I live in a relatively warm climate location (Houston, TX) and have never set my heater higher than 72F."
"I'm using this on a ceiling vent to divert heat away from the cabinets and into the kitchen."
"They do the job but aren't very durable."
"This changed the whole dynamic of our AC, because if you have a vent right by the thermostat, your whole setup is a mess - not to mention efficiency concerns. As for the device itself, we've kicked it and partially stepped on it a few times and it's not broken yet, it claims to be indestructible, and so far that is true."
"I haven’t had them long enough to know if there really unbreakable I hope so, they are clear appear strong and with strong magnets , they stay in place.."
"He's a pretty good for the price."

Reviews
"I began to purchase LED light bulbs as a start, new energy efficient appliances, and then September 2015 the Nest 3rd Generation was released which caught my attention. I asked my father in-law who had the Nest 2nd Generation for information and he had nothing negative to say about it so I was sold. Test your wires one more time prior to uninstalling to make sure no power is running (avoid being shocked or damaging anything). If you have children you can lock it so that a child touching it can not change or disrupt your temperature or any of your settings. Nest will remind you when you should change your air filters on your furnace because it can base it upon how many times it turns on and off. Significant drop in energy consumption can be seen on my gas bill after month 1."
"The nest was not calling for heat and temperature was dropping fast. I called the nest techs which were polite and helpful. They said my nest was wired for a heat pump which I do not have. The nest was properly wired, but when wiring was check via the wi if it said it was erroneously wired for a heat pump."
"** EDIT: I am happy to report that the Nest Thermostat now has a number of options for the Farsight feature, including to display the current room temperature, which I wanted, and to display the weather outside (downloaded from the internet), which is very cool indeed! To charge its batteries, the Nest needs a C (common) wire hooked up; otherwise it tries to charge itself whenever the heating or cooling system is running -- the only time current is passing through it. If I turn the heating system on and set the thermostat to something low, like 60 degrees, so the heat won't ever turn on, the Nest displays "60" rather than the actual temperature in the room. Why should I have to wall-mount a thermometer next to the Nest to replicate its thermometer, just because the Nest programmers won't offer the option to show the current temperature?"

"They are easy stripped by hand tightinng if you are looking for a super tight seal."
"Flanges are too small and make connecting ducting a bit tricky but holds well once you get it the clamp on."
"We use these filters for doing sterilizing by fogging in homes and they do a good job of keeping the fogging solution out of the motors in the foggers."
"This actually works."

Please see product use guide for safety information and shutoff feature usage. Please See Product Use Guide for Safety Information and Shutoff Feature Usage.
Reviews
"We've tried a few different compact room heaters, but they were too small to heat the area and also way too noisy. We have tried many heaters in our RV and house over the years and they tend to be so noisy. The model we tried before purchasing the Lasko was so noisy we had to crank the tv volume up to hear over it. This sounds like a silly feature to list, but it makes a big difference in heating up a room. Therefore, the area directly in front of the heater was warmed, but the rest of the room was not. The oscillation really helps get the heat moved around the room so that you are not creating hot and cold spots. There are a couple of negatives about this heater: - To me, it is annoying that it beeps for every setting you change. :) I assume Lasko designed the beep so that you would know you changed something while clicking the remote control. Since you have the big unit sitting there in your room, it would be nice if it could be used to circulate air during the day when it's warmer, and then heat at night once the temps have dropped. (PS - we bought it at a local store, not via Amazon, so I can't comment on shipping). One thing I've noticed is that it will build up lint (Ummm... ok, cat & dog fur...)."
"The maximum safe total load on one 15 amp circuit is 1440 watts even though a 15 amp circuit is rated at 1800 watts. If it is set low 860-900 watts no more than 500 watts of additional load can be added to a single 15 amp circuit and there will be no thermostat."
"I purchased this for my daughter and the cord got really hot and melted after only being on for 30 minutes."
"I used this where my BABY sleeps and it's not eligible for returns so I can't contact Amazon about a return, since it didn't start a fire within 30 days of purchasing it. Cannot contact seller, or Amazon, and manufacturer requires ME to pay to SHIP it to them BEFORE honoring a warranty."
"If she had not started screaming, I can only assume the temperature in the room would have continue to climb and my little girl would have suffered a heat stroke and may have died. This photo was taken after turning the heater off, grabbing my daughter and pulling off her sweat drenched clothes and taking care of her."

"One option is to double the plastic when installing it. According to how cold it is in your area, one layer may be okay but I find that for the price two is better."
"For those of you who are in doubt of their own capacity and ability to properly install this like I was, DO NOT FEAR. Blow Drying Tip: when blowdrying, rather than blowing at the wrinkled area directly, sway the blow dryer gently around the wrinkle itself and the wrinkle will come out much faster. Feel free to read the rest of my reviews on Amazon: I rarely write reviews here, but when I do, it's because I had a bit of doubt myself when purchasing it, but turned out to exceed my wildest imaginations."
"Have ten windows in the home, so got two Duck 1299529 window shrink film kits, and a low cost Jerdon 1600 watt blow drier. Wiped the dust off the trim with a damp paper towel per window, dried, then used one of the four faces on each alcohol wipe for each side of the window trim. Lift an inch or so of the tape off the roll, grab one end, and pull on one side until you hear/feel a soft pop, then the other side the same way. Peel back the protective cover an inch or two, cut the half inch off of the messed up tape with your scissors, and and fold the cover crease) to one side ninety degrees. Leave at least two or three inches of extra film on each side. I did the top first, then a side, then the other side, then the bottom."
