I have set the system up to only record when motion is detected on a prescribed schedule, mostly late night and early morning. For the system to be useful as added security it is important to not have lots of false alerts due to motion, therefore it is important to set up the zones very specific to what you want to protect (i.e. doors, windows, cars in driveway)."

What separates a camera in my eyes is trigger time, quality night pictures, recovery time, battery life, strap connecting to the tree, ease of setup, pictures of an object in motion, and durability. I started taking videos with trail cameras in 2014 and took quite a few in 2015 in addition to taking pictures. If you're familiar with game cameras, this is the most timely matter when taking pictures. WHAT I LIKE: + Tripod mount hardware included (if that's a feature you use it migh be helpful). + LCD Screen allows users to see where camera is pointed and you can review pictures/videos on it – Very unusual to see that in this price range. + Easy to follow and program menu. + High quality day pictures and video with excellent audio quality. + Hybrid Mode (video + pictures), Video mode (1 to 60 second settings or, 3, 5, and 10 mins) Photo bursts from 1 to 3 pictures at a time. + Security password (optional). + It takes up to 8 AA batteries, so batteries don’t need to be swapped as often as some cameras. + I have taken fewer blurry pictures of moving objects than many other cameras I've used. + I haven't had a ton of false triggers, but I haven't been able to move it to a variety of locations to confirm. WHAT I DON'T LIKE. - My biggest complaint is that this takes a narrower picture than I am accustomed to. This is well below the industry average of 4-5 seconds (some are in the 2 second range). - 40-45 ft detection range which is average or a bit below average for PIR sensors in game cameras. - This camera has a strap with a plastic buckle. I would like to see the actual trigger time and recovery time drop to be competitive with other cameras. I like this camera, but, like ANY other game camera, I think there are areas for improvement."

"The broken locks were behind insulated storm door, in an enclosed porch and inside a finished/insulated garage. ------------------------------. UPDATE + MY FIX: Of four locks: one is working, one was replaced and two are still broken and unable to function. As I removed the 2 broken locks I took the sealed keypad apart in hopes of finding a loose wire. A small pin on a spring had come out of its track and was obstructing the lock mechanism from moving properly. If this might be your problem-- its not the most difficult fix (20 minutes), you don't need special tools but there are a lot of parts to keep track of and its a pain fitting it all together again."

Cameras are small and pretty solid for the price, IR illumination works as it should, but plan on about 35' ~ 50' of good IR illumination in pure dark. all you need is a USB mouse, VGA monitor or HDMI TV/monitor and I would suggest a USB thumb drive if you plan to export video. Single wire install for cameras! no need for power and video cables, ... one cable does both... but see below. (depending on your settings). CONS: (a lot of these are petty complaints). Cameras have a micro USB connector on them, not an RJ45, ... so if you plan on wiring long distance not using the factory cable, keep this in mind. It was not necessary for me to extend any of the cables on my first install, so I can not provide info as to how far the cables can be extended. AS OF INSTALL: I bought 2 of these thinking "well, if 8 cameras out of 16 work, I'll be happy" All 8 cameras on the first unit came up instantly (see note above re: IR filter) The system has been recording 5 cameras for 4 days at a reasonable frame rate and the hard drive is not even close to being taxed. * I am not currently a security system installer, not affiliated with any security company, not being endorsed or obtaining a discount by the manufacturer of this product for this review."
