Find Best Price at Amazon"Greg Brown is a particular kind of folk singer who before I listened to his "Greg Brown Live" album I had not really paid attention to since the days of my early youth when I listened intently to Woody Guthrie whose songs were seemingly forged from the very heart of Americana. Outstanding here are "Billy From The Hills" attribute to his father, "Boomtown" a quasi-political song about turning the American Mountain West into the same kind of upscale tourist trap/strip mall as we find on the coasts and the inevitable paean to love's twists and turns in "You Drive Me Crazy". I would argue that this is one of the great modern love songs."
"My favorite studio album is Poet Game - that one should've won him many awards and a HUGE following but, somehow, did not. The Live One is a great album - really showing Greg at his best, conversing with the audience in his song intros - and great guitar work, although this live recording does not have the masterful slide guitar and usual companion Bo Ramsey featured."

"When Steve Martin decided to share his love of banjo music with us, I bought "The Crow". "The Crow" was all about the banjo, but here it is featured in good company with guitars, fiddle, and mandolin, all superbly played. "King Tut" was novel when Steve wrote it for a Saturday Night Live skit, many moons ago, as a spectacular exhibit of items from the tomb of ancient Egypt's Pharaoh Tutankhamun was touring the country. The song escaped it's SNL bounds and wound up high on the pop charts. Well, on "Rare Bird Alert", you can hear it performed with it's original, authentic, bluegrass instrumentation."
