"It's one of the first albums that I check out when I have a new piece of gear, and one that sounds better every time I make an improvement where a lot of other recordings start to reveal flaws."
"The Wailin'Jennys produce such lovely harmonies and melodic songs."
"Wonderful harmonies and great songs by the Wailin Jennys."
"Good album, but doesn't come near their Bright Morning Stars album."
"Their harmonies and easy voices really put one at ease and provide a relaxing atmosphere for just enjoying some calming music after a hectic day at work."

"The lyrics and songwriting are hauntingly beautiful, the two voices of Nicholson and Chambers fit together perfectly, and the songs are both interesting and very catchy."
"Really nice harmony and great voices and music."
"It is fresh material from a good writer, and great listening music if you like country / folk."
"Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson know there way around the crossroads where folk, bluegrass, old time music and traditional Nashville country intersect. Although written in traditional vernaculars, none are trite or obvious. Kasey has a sweet, rich, lovely voice, and Shane has one of those less obvious voices that is very pleasing but you can't put your finger on why."
"This compilation of what I'd call alt-bluegrass is better than anything released in the US in years and years. Having stumbled on it quite by accident, I was gobsmacked by the sound."
"I have most of Kasey Chambers CD's, but when this one came out I was disappointed because it sounded like country music songs, which I'm not really into."
"Not since Gram Parson's work with Emmylou have the stars aligned with respect to songwriting, the blend of Kasey & Shane's voices, and the stark yet beautiful accompaniment of the largely acoustic instrumentation."

The Live One
Reviews
"Greg Brown is a particular kind of folk singer who before I listened to his "Greg Brown Live" album I had not really paid attention to since the days of my early youth when I listened intently to Woody Guthrie whose songs were seemingly forged from the very heart of Americana. Outstanding here are "Billy From The Hills" attribute to his father, "Boomtown" a quasi-political song about turning the American Mountain West into the same kind of upscale tourist trap/strip mall as we find on the coasts and the inevitable paean to love's twists and turns in "You Drive Me Crazy". I would argue that this is one of the great modern love songs."
"My favorite studio album is Poet Game - that one should've won him many awards and a HUGE following but, somehow, did not. The Live One is a great album - really showing Greg at his best, conversing with the audience in his song intros - and great guitar work, although this live recording does not have the masterful slide guitar and usual companion Bo Ramsey featured."
"Greg Brown has a great deal of great music, but of all the albums to his name A Live One is the best."
"This is a marvelous album!"
"Greg Brown's lyrics are nostalgic (Canned Goods, Laughing River), funny (I Don't Want to Have a Nice Day, Just By Myself), and personal (Spring Wind, You Drive Me Crazy)."
"With Gregg Brown there is always a story within his songs & often associated to his life experiences & thoughts."
"But seriously, folks, this is a great album and an excellent representation of what a Greg Brown concert is like."

Rare Bird Alert
Reviews
"LOVE STEEP CANYON RANGERS .... Steve Martin okay - more for kids. I am sure that Steve Martin has really helped them though by giving them professional pointers - because this is a "slick" group - love their suits ...... their lighting .............. love the fiddle player!"
"Steve Martin is a rare bird, his singing and playing with multiple artists."
"When Steve Martin decided to share his love of banjo music with us, I bought "The Crow". "The Crow" was all about the banjo, but here it is featured in good company with guitars, fiddle, and mandolin, all superbly played. "King Tut" was novel when Steve wrote it for a Saturday Night Live skit, many moons ago, as a spectacular exhibit of items from the tomb of ancient Egypt's Pharaoh Tutankhamun was touring the country. The song escaped it's SNL bounds and wound up high on the pop charts. Well, on "Rare Bird Alert", you can hear it performed with it's original, authentic, bluegrass instrumentation."
"The humor, the music & the group is awesome."
"This music will not disappoint, especially if you like Steve Martin and banjo music."
"Wonderfull music."
"He and the Steep Canyon Rangers are a wonderful match and the music they make on this album is the best. Steve Martin wrote most of the songs and his talent shows in the word play."
"Steep Canyon Raiders, Steven Martin's witty comments and lyrics and banjo, Dixie Chicks, Sir Paul, amazing packaging and graphics that recall the late 1960s (I have the deluxe edition, with the addition only of the musician trading cards), joyful ditties, reference to Lawren Harris' outstanding Canadian paintings, and . I have always appreciated bluegrass because, first, the banjo IS a happy sounding instrument, and, second, because the harmonies, speedy rhythms, and direct lyrics often are cheerful."

"The Vietnam War, the assassinations of public figures, and seeing part of my city burn the previous summer during riots-- it was a lot to handle. The first side of the record ends with the sad longing and fears of Old Friends, who sit on a park bench and reminisce together. The fears and sadness of 1968 are long past, but a final memory remains: As I lay in bed early that Christmas Eve, the colored glow of tree lights seeped into my room. Off in the distance were disembodied television voices of Apollo astronauts circling the moon-- they read passages from the book of Genesis, and wished well the "people of the good Earth.""
