When running very low, it can emit a buzzing vibration sound from the pump, which acts as a decent reminder to refill. It has a large, clear reservoir tank to easily see how much water is left. The reservoir tank is also easy to remove and refill, with minimal spillage while doing so. For some senior folks, or those with limited arm strength, this could be a real problem. Sounds simple to do, but the inside of this fountain is the exact opposite of the outer design. There are so many little nooks and crannies for debris and bacteria to collect in, and sharp internal corners abound. It is easy enough to break it down into smaller components, But these parts themselves contain sharp internal corners too small for my average-sized hands to reach. after almost four years of continuous 24 hour use, with the exception of regular cleaning and maintenance, my pump has finally died."

Just use coffee filters, or even napkins!
