"Nearly cut myself to the bone pulling the hatchet out of its sheath...super effective 10/10 would buy again."
"Here is my video review: https://youtu.be/UUIY7PnGzvw. Bottom-line: The hatchet is made out of stainless steel...therefore, you will easily have dents in the blade."
"The blade is very sharp and if clean can double as a knife, just chock your hand up close to the head for more control and use just like you would a knife."
"I've had the Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet kicking around here for a few weeks now and I must say this is one of the "stand out" tools in the 2013 Bear Grylls line. The Bear Grylls survival hatchet is a compact, relatively light weight, full tang and pretty innovative tool. Full tang construction is regarded by most experts as the strongest way to build a knife or bladed tool, like a hatchet. ~THICK STEEL. The Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet is made from 5Cr13 stainless steel that is a full .25 inches (or 6.35 millimeters) thick. SUPER SHARP. Now my hatchet arrived shaving sharp and is actually sharper than my Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro Knife was out of the box. ~DURABLE COATING. 100% of the steel on this hatchet is covered with the same gray and pretty rugged PVD coating that's found on most of the other Bear Grylls knives and tools. ~CHOP A TREE. Using this hatchet to chop a small tree was not as easy as using an axe or my full-sized Estwing Hatchet, but it did very nice with a moderate effort and sure beat using my Ultimate PRO Survival Knife. ~ONE LAST THING... As with every other tool in the Bear Grylls line, the Survival Hatchet ships with the waterproof, Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide. ~MY RATING. So I rate the Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet at 4 out of 5 Stars for being a VERY light weight, yet stout and durable hatchet with a form factor that makes it easy to EDC this hatchet on your belt while in the wilderness. I love just about everything about this tool as a survival hatchet, especially it's thoughtful design that considered the need for a formidable yet compact hatchet that could be easily carried. The Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet is a great tool for those who venture off the beaten path and are prone to wandering in the woods for any length of time."
"I use this as a roughing out carving axe because I am a beginning wood carver spoon and kuksa carver but I didn't want to purchase the gransfors axe at 4 times the price."
"When you place the blade on the log you wish to split and hit the back of the hatchet with another branch or heavy object to achieve the split, the hatchet just sinks into the log and gets stuck."
"Small, light weight camp tool."
"- It is a single piece of steel meaning that the head wont get loose from the handle over time as a regular hatchet."

"I like this set up better than the Mora solution, and I would hope a furute redesign of the scabbard would eliminate the need for the split ring."
"I am so far from being a knife expert, that my review I feel comes from the knife amature sharing why a knife like this is functional for backpacking. I love this knife, and it has many characteristics that make it awesome to take backpacking."
"super excellent knife, it may be tiny and small but wow its a great knife."
"It's a long-handle-short-blade tool, which makes it easy to control, and with the blade cover it's great to just drop into a shirt, coat, or pants pocket. I definitely feel like I got my money's worth, and will freely recommend the manufacturer and model to my friends."
"I have a similarly shaped Norwegian knife (Helle Nying) that I don't carry it around much due to sentimental value, but love the stubby design."
"It is perfect for swiftly opening boxes at home, all those Amazon boxes that pour into your house, you can swiftly eliminate any tape that binds them close, allowing you to get to your goodies much more quicker than using the keys on your key chain, or using you fingernail, or ripping the tape off with your teeth."
"Despite its small size, the Eldris feels to me like it is acutally heavier than a Mora classic 1, but I think that could be because the handle feels more dense. Despite a couple minor fit and finish issues, I really like the great functionality of this knife and how well it handles for its small size."
"Had looked at the kit version, but spent $8 on a thicker/longer ferro rod instead and can use some cord to create basically the same setup if wanting to wear around the neck."

Reviews
"The new full size model with a 7" blade is larger than the 1209 and has the classic stacked leather handle and pinned butt cap. Treated the sheath with Neatsfoot oil and it got darker and more pliant, but still very sturdy with stitching and rivets."
"Anyone who knows anything about knives should be able to sharpen their own knives like they want, not complain about having to take it to a specialist. Stainless is very hard to achieve a good edge on without the proper honing instruments, such as ceramic. I live in New Mexico and have plenty of expierience in the matter. The oils in the leather will make it waterproof and keep most moisture out, plus, everytime you sheath it, you will put a fine coat of oil on the blade."
"That said, saturate the sheath in Neetsfoot oil, and coat the entire knife in Neetsfoot oil as well. Now whenever you sheath you blade, the excess oil inside the sheath will coat the blade and protect against rust. I recommend saturating the sheath in Neetsfoot oil every 3 months, and oiling the grip and blade once every month. One last thing: This blade is razor sharp, so like any blade, use caution and keep it away from children who haven't been taught proper knife care and safety protocols. Speaking of which, only about 7.5 months have passed (purchased 4/16/2015), but I've oiled the leather grip and sheath with traditional Neetsfoot oil at least once a week."
"Mine was black carbon. • The handle is lacquered-leather shouldn't be lacquered-it's too slippery. • There is a USMC stamp on one side – no stamp on the other side, no Orlean NY. • The sheath only has the USMC emblem and USMC on it – and is not Mexican quality. Definitely not the Ka-Bar I carried in Nam ,,, not even close."
"Poor quality, the engraving was half missing on the USMC side and completely missing on the made in NY side."
