I think metal dies are probably intended for much higher-end watches (the kind I'd take to a professional to service) and in the hands of an experienced watchmaker the metal dies probably perform better than the plastic ones. The experienced watchmaker doubtless has techniques to ensure the finish on your $1500 watch is not damaged by metal dies."

"As I aligned the first of 5 pins I ended up removing, even though the push rod remained level, I could see the tip of the pin wasn't staying level and had a slight "out of round" movement where it would go off axis. I didn't notice it until it neared the tip of the bracelet pin, at which time it became very evident. I thought if I took the time to micro-adjust the bracelet so the tool's pin hit the bracelet's pin, the act of it entering the bracelet's pin hole might keep it on track, however within a millimeter or two of it entering the hole the tool's pin bent, making it unuseable. I also used the tool to finish pushing the pins into place to join the bracelet after inserting them as far as I could by hand."
