Find Best Price at Amazon"Previously we had no humidifier in this house and the indoor humidity during the cold part of winter was dropping into the single digit humidity levels as low 6% humidity. My previous two houses had the other style whole house humidifier that runs water over a filter evaporation panel and this steam humidifier is much better. The humidifier control panel that gets mounted on the return side of the duct work will periodically instruct the furnace blower to run so that it can check the house humidity level. When the humidifier control sensor detects that the humidity is low, it causes just the furnace blower to run to distribute the steam without having the gas furnace ignited generating heat. For comparison the other evaporation panel style humidifier is extremely inefficient and wastes 80% of the water. At our previous house that had the evaporation style humidifier, 80% of the water would drain under the house, into the sump pump, and then flow to our back yard. This steam humidifier does not waste any water except when it rarely runs through a drain cycle."
"I've read a lot of bad things about drum and sponge-type humidifiers, and my wife is deathly allergic to mold, so steam was a no-brainer. Electrical. You can either run this unit at 120v or 240v, but multiple reviewers here have commented that the output at 120v was too little. My house was already piped with PEX, so it was simple to turn the water off at the meter, cut into a 3/4" COLD water line, add a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2" Tee, then run a 1/2" (blue) line from there to the humidifier, add a Shark-bite push connect angle stop/shut-off, then connect that to the humidifier using a stainless-steel braided supply line that had 3/8" compression connections on either end (these are a bit hard to find). A lot of digital ink has been spilled about if the control should go on the supply or return air line, but the install instructions make it clear that it should go on the return air side, and that is where I installed mine. Fortunately for me, when my ducts were cleaned they drilled a small hole for me, and I was able to use that for the probe that sticks out of the back of the ADHC unit (and into the air flow). Note: If you can, put a rag down INSIDE the plenum to catch the filings/metal dust that are created when drilling. The placement of the steam pipe is determined by the CFM of your furnace, and the distance to the nearest obstruction/bend in the plenum/duct. Since my furnace is only 300 CFM, using 240v, and I planned on setting the humidifer control to 45% (the max, BTW), I needed to be 23" away from the closest turn. When determining where the humifier is to be installed, keep in mind that the instructions specify that you need a 16" drop from the bottom of the unit to the drain location. It puts out a lot of water when it drains, and it will eventually. make a mess on your floor. The thermostat FAN (G) wire (from/via the Fast-Stat 3000) is then removed from the furnace, and routed to the ADHC (G connection). Note: If the outdoor temperature doesn't display on the Aprilaire Model 8570 thermostat, just switch the two wires at the ODT connection of the ADHC. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I've included a diagram that shows all the low-power wiring in my system."

"We only had a few issues with it which are not a dealbreaker: 1) The waterfall feature does not create a ribbon of water, but instead it consolidates into a harsh stream before it reaches you, and is similar to what you would get with a garden hose. The metal that makes up the waterfall bit too started to show surface rust very quickly. 4) The spring within the tempreature knob that allows the saftey catch to work (preventing you from accidentally turning it up too hot) has broken after 3 months."
